Abstract

Indonesia, which is rich in biodiversity, is very much in harmony with the culture or habits of the people who still uphold hereditary values, especially in terms of herbal (traditional) medicine. Utilization of medicinal plants in Indonesia has begun to develop rapidly, where medicinal plants used can be used directly or through an extraction process to obtain compounds that have pharmacological and therapeutic effects. One of the medicinal plants that is often used by the Indonesian people is a type of rhizome that includes ginger, yellow turmeric, white ginger, ginger, and many more. One of the rhizomes that are efficacious for health is white ginger (Curcuma zedoaria). In the test white ginger extract (Curcuma zedoaria) was positive for the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponins, curcumin. These compounds that make Temu Putih (Curcuma zedoaria) have pharmacological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, as an immunodulator, anti-angiogenic and can act as an antitumor.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries in the world that has very diverse and very large amounts of wealth, such as  plants. As for the wealth of plants in question, such as the existence of plants that have properties for body health and growth and development. Many mothers and caregivers complain about decreased appetite because if energy and nutritional needs are not met there will be a slowdown in physical growth, mental development and mental retardation. One of the plants that can be used to increase appetite is black temu (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb). Black rhizome belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, contains black compounds including essential oils, tanim, curikumol, kurkumenol, isokurkumelon, kurzerenon, kurdion, kurkumolactone, germakron and curcumin. The purpose of this research is to find out further benefits and prove whether the content of black rhizome can increase appetite in children. This study uses the literature method by seeking various sources from previous studies. The results obtained show that the content of essential oils has the potential to reduce fat so that it can trigger appetite, while the content of curcuminoids can cause relaxation of the intestine in the gastrointestinal tract which can help digestion of food and absorption of food ingredients by increasing the work of the stomach so that the stomach feels empty. The conclusion obtained is that these two ingredients can increase appetite in children so that they can get their appetite back and the energy and nutritional needs of their ody will be fulfilled perfectly.

Abstract

Chemotherapy is a medical procedure used to stop the growth of cancer cells. Chemotherapy involves injecting or ingesting chemicals. Cytotoxic chemotherapy cause unpleasant side effects like nausea and vomiting. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as combination therapy with ginger aromatherapy and progressive muscle relaxation, can be used to treat nausea and vomiting. By lowering or stopping nausea and vomiting, ginger aromatherapy can be comforting. This study used the literature method by analyzing various sources from previous  research which are then used as reference material for making this article. The results obtained were that the ginger aromatherapy inhibits serotonin receptors, which prevents serotonin released and contractions of the stomach muscles, hence reducing nausea and vomiting. The conclusion obtained is that ginger aromatherapy has been proven to have a calming effect and make a person relax. The compounds present in ginger such as zingiber and zingiberol have anti-emetic effects which can prevent nausea and vomiting.

Abstract

Flavonoids are natural compounds found in durian. One of the most important components known as natural compounds, which have the potential as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The secondary metabolites of flavonoids in the skin of plants can be affected by the process of photosynthesis. The purpose of this study was to measure the total flavonoid content and ethyl acetate fraction of red durian skin using the Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method. This research uses a type of descriptive research method. Extraction of red durian fruit skin (Durio graveolens Becc) using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Fractionation was carried out using the liquid-liquid fractionation method using ethyl acetate. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) was used to identify flavonoids with the stationary phase of silica gel GF254 and the mobile phase of methanol:ethyl acetate 7:3 for flavonoid compounds. Quantitative analysis was carried out using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method, to determine the total flavonoid content. The results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction sample was positive for containing alkoloid compounds, flavonoids and did not contain saponins and tannins. The results of the assistance for spots on the TLC plate obtained an Rf value of 0.75-0.81.  the total flavonoid test results using the Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method of the ethyl acetate fraction of the red durian rind sample yielded a total flavonoid content of 5.706 mg QE/g.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is still high. According to the RISKESDAS 2018, the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is 48.9%. The impact caused by anemia is low birth weight and bleeding in pregnant women and premature babies. Compliance in consuming daily Iron Folic Acid (IFA) is still a significant obstacle to date, so it is hoped that weekly IFA supplementation can improve compliance in pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the effect of daily versus weekly use of IFA in pregnant women on hemoglobin levels. The method used is a literature review. The search strategy used uses a database (Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct) with the keywords Pregnancy (Population), Iron supplementation (Intervention), Daily and Weekly (Comparison), and Hemoglobin (Outcome). The study obtained nine journals as study material. The nine journals showed that daily iron supplementation in non-anemic pregnant women gave better results in terms of adherence, and hemoglobin levels showed an increase that was not significantly different from daily. Weekly iron supplementation can be ensured in non-anemic pregnant women because it can increase hemoglobin levels to prevent anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is an essential organic compound for the body and has many health benefits. Vitamin C cannot be produced by the body, so it must be obtained from outside the body through food consumption. The vitamin C in plants varies considerably depending on the type, the part of the plant, and the growing environment. Vitamin C analysis can be carried out using qualitative and quantitative methods. This article review aims to review qualitative and the quantitative analysis of vitamin C using plant samples. The plants used in the study are plants that are widely consumed in Indonesia, namely matoa fruit (Pometia pinnata), water spinach (Ipomoea reptana Poir), spinach (Amaranthus spinosus), cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), enau fruit (Arenga pinnata Merr.) and katuk leaves (Sauropus Androgynus). The qualitative analysis of vitamin C used FeCl3, KMnO4, Methylene blue and AgNO3 reagents, while the qualitative analysis uses the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method and several titration methods.
