Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the Symbols’ Representation In Marketplace As Communication Language. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The instrument of the research was is something that is used in doing a work (Ary: 2002). Analysis Roland Barthes' semiotic paradigm. This study will analyze data regarding the meaning of denotation and connotation of symbols in the Tokopedia marketplace application. In this study there are instruments that is, the instrument is a list of symbols that contain meaning and understanding in English which is difficult for ordinary people to understand and very difficult to understand. The results showed understand the understanding of a symbol that is in the market place. In this section the found s everal forms of understanding from each student to the symbols made in the form of questions in the google classroom media, the form of understanding was based on symbols, which the researchers gave to 10 students, some of which were questions in the form of choices from 4 market places. namely Shopee, Tokopedia, Lazada, and Bukalapak.Which were seen from 8 symbols from 4 market place applications. It can be concluded that students' understanding of the symbols given are very helpful in understanding a symbol contained in a market place where the symbol can be a communication tool or communication language for students who do not understand the meaning of the symbol. Abstract

The objective of this study was to figure out whether there is any correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement at Grade XI Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. In this research, the researcher used Correlational research in a quantitative design. In correlational method, the researcher used the correlation statistical test to describe and measure between two variables. The population of this study was the whole students of XI grade MAN 1 Bengkulu City with total students 355. The researcher took all of population as the sample of the research. Therefore, the sample of this research was about 350 students at eleventh grade MAN Model Bengkulu. To obtain the data, the researcher used questionnaire and documentation as the instruments of this research. The questionnaire of students’ motivation was adopted from The Attitude / Motivation Test Battery by R. C Gardner cited in (Rafasah, 2019). Moreover, the students’ learning achievement was identified by collecting the students’ English score in UTS or UAS or daily test. After collecting and analyzing the data, the researcher found that the sign. (2-tailed) Pearson correlation = 0.00 > 0.05 which means that there was a correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement at XI A students of SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. The researcher suggested for English teachers in developing some strategies to facilitate the students to have a good motivation. The researcher also suggested for the students to be more active in practicing English even though this research findings showed that the students’ motivation was good. Abstract

Nowadays, teaching media is developed well in many kinds especially for English listening skill. Listening is the first communication skill human acquired. It is an important process which has vital role in the daily activity. The example of teaching media to be used in listening class is English Movie. The researcher conducted watching English movie activity in the class and he realize that the teaching media is interesting to be used because students are easy to get bored when they have listening activity without visual media. Then, he wants to know the students’ perception about the use of this method, The objective of the research was to find out the Effect of Audio Lingual Method (ALM) In Mandalorian Movies On Listening Ability and it was using quantitative experimental research. The population of this research was the students in SMA 12 Bengkulu Utara. It takes 60 students consisted of 30 as experimental and 30 as a control class. The result of t-test value of the post test was greater than t-table value (116,0>2.042). The hypothesis testing above showed that the listening comprehension scores of the students in experimental group had a significant difference after the use ALM (Audio Lingual Method) in Mandalorian movies, strategy was done in compared to the control’s group achievement who did not receive the ALM (Audio Lingual Method) in Mandalorian movies as on the experimental group, it showed Audio Lingual Method (ALM) In Mandalorian Movies On Listening Ability was effective to be used to improved students’ ability in listening. By using this strategy, it maybe improves students to learn proper English by using a movie as a learning method so the student can enjoy studying a English by watching a movie. Abstract

The research was aim to describe about students’ ability levels in reading comprehension at the second semester Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This method of this study was descriptive qualitative. The research instrument was a reading comprehension test to show the students’ reading ability based on the theory of (Roe, 2011). There were; main idea, specific information, reference, inference, and vocabulary. The results of the study, it was only analysis reading ability in vocabulary got very high score with the percentage 90.90%. And the four rest abilities got very low score. To be considered, reading is an important part for English language students. It is obvious that we have to be good reading ability in reading comprehension because reading is each part four language skills. The researcher are hoped to teach the students about strategy in reading subject, specially to improve reading ability in main idea, specific information, reference, inference. Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of teaching English of EYL Course in SDN 07 Kota Bengkulu. It was designed as a qualitative research in which the data were obtained via interview and documentation. The data were also analyzed by applying main indicators and criteria in measuring teaching effectiveness. On the one hand, the indicators were consisted of mastery learning, student learning activity, management ability, and student responses. On the other hand, the criteria comprised time allocation and student motivation. The results indicated that the apprentice teacher of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu mastered in delivering lesson materials. Then, the students showed the different attitudes during attending the class of EYL. Some of whom were active and some tended to be passive. However, management skill of the apprentice teacher was not called to be well-structured yet. It was also observed from their ability to allocate time in delivering lesson materials of EYL. Additionally, motivation of the students mostly came from their perspective about English. Most of whom considered having skill in speaking English was very cool. In conclusion, teaching EYL in SDN 07 Kota Bengkulu is effective to conduct because both indicators and criteria have tendency to be positive, even though ability of the apprentice teachers are still not professional yet.Key Words: Effectiveness, EYL Course, Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the teaching methods used by teachers for inclusive children used in Mahira Alam School (SD, SMP, SMA) and how is the implementation of the inclusive teaching method used by student teachers at the Mahira Alam Bengkulu School. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research. The data collection technique used was direct observation at school. The subjects of this study were English teachers at Mahira Alam School (elementary, junior high, high school). The results of the study show that there are 4 teaching methods that the teacher uses in teaching inclusive students at the Alam Mahira Bengkulu School, namely; use of Direct Teaching Methods 92%, Indirect Teaching Methods 59%, Scaffolding 63%, Self-Training 74%. the teaching method is often used by teachers at the Alam Mahira school Direct Teaching Method and the method that is rarely used is Indirect Teaching Methods. Implementation of the teaching method by Teachers for inclusive students at the Alam Mahira School of Bengkulu Almost all the elements of teaching method for inclusive students at Alam Mahira Schools (SD, SMP, and SMA), namely the Direct teaching method by providing training with guidance, submission of materials and providing feedback. Indirect teaching method by means of the teacher as a facilitator and Student- centered learning. Self-training method by means of Facilitating Students to be able to work Self, Train students to practice a small number of skills, and Provide exercises so students can develop abilities. Scaffolding method by means of Set the difficulty level of the difficulty of the subject matter, utilize a variety of learning models, and Practice responsibility for future researchers, it is suggested that it can be used to find out student responses to the teaching methods used by several teachers in inclusive schools. Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the implementation of the ARCS Motivational model in TEFL at SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the study was all of the English teachers who teach English at SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. There were three English teachers who become the subject of this research. The researcher used observation checklist and interview to obtain the data. This research finding showed that there were 93% of attention indicator, 84% of relevance indicator, 53% of confidence indicator, and 67% of satisfaction indicator implemented by English teachers as ARCS Model in teaching English Foreign Language at SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. Attention indicator of ARCS models dominantly implemented by the teachers with percentage 93%. It was suggested for English teachers to implement more the confidence indicator since all of indicators of ARCS models is important to improve and encourage the students’ motivation in learning English. For further research, it will be better if other researchers can continue this research by conducting other design of research, such as; quasi experimental research or action research related to the implementation of ARCS models in teaching English at SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. Abstract

The objective of this research was to find students learning modalities in learning English at English education program. Design of the research in this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method and the research includes collecting and analysis of non-numeric data to understand concept and experiences. Subject of the research was students of the English education program. Researchers conducted research in semesters 3rd and 5th of the 2022/2023 academic year. Semester 3th consists of 29 students and semester 5th consists of 18 students, so the entire subject numbered 47 students. The research instrument is a questionnaire. The questionnaire was adapted from (Ldpride, 2021). The finding of this research showed that learning modalities in the 3rd semester was kinesthetic with percentage 44%. While in the 5th semester learning modalities was kinesthetic with percentage 36%. And learning modalities in the 3rd and 5th semesters are kinesthetic with a percentage 36%. It was suggested that the importance of knowing the appropriate learning modalities for the way they carry out learning activities will have a positive impact, such as being able to make it easier for students to absorb information so as to increase their interest and learning achievement. Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the students’ difficulties in writing linking word. The design of this research was descriptive method. The instrument of the research was linking word test by Buczko et.al (2017 :1-10) and questionnaire adapted from Pramadani (2021) about students’ difficulties. The result showed the fourth semester students in English study program have difficulties in writing linking word. The students lack knowledge about linking word because they difficult to understand the material so they difficult to identify linking word in the sentence. After that, the students also did not how much type of linking word and how to use it so they difficult to choose word and write the correct linking word that appropriate with the sentence. It is suggested the students: Students need the assistance to overcome the difficulties that they faced in writing linking word. The students should learn and practice to write linking word more to increase their ability in linking word. Key words: Linking Word, Students Writing Difficulties

Abstract

Writing is a complex and essential skill that plays a significant role in communication, education, and professional endeavors. However, many students encounter various difficulties when engaging in writing tasks, especially in covid-19 pandemic. The aim of the research is to find out student’s writing difficulties in online learning during COVID-19 pandemic at 4TH semester in Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The design of this research was descriptive method. The instrument of the research was questionnaire. The result showed that there are four factors that make fourth semester students have writing difficulties in online learning during pandemic Covid 19, namely : organization, content of the text, grammar and vocabulary mastery. The dominant factor of the students writing difficulties is vocabulary mastery. It implies that the students need to practice regularly and set aside dedicated time for writing practice. In addition, the students can seek support if they are still facing persistent challenges in writing, consider seeking additional support from lecturers, counselors, or professionals specializing in learning writing difficulties to help them in personalizing strategies and interventions tailored to the students' specific needs especially enhancing their knowledge about organization, content, grammar and add their vocabularies.
