Abstract

This research presents the study of female resistance on domestic violence in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Wakefield. In this story, Hawthorne plays the female character who undergoes the form of domestic abuse within the family institution. His voice visible misogynistically, the female-oppressed is not only for keeping an authority, but also due to the failure to manage his marriage. In this study, the textual analysis is employed to explore the forms of domestic abuse by conducting close-reading (in-depth), identifying, grouping, and interpreting the related-words/clues/quotation of domestic violence on female. The results of analysis demonstrate that self-reliance of female character as vividly described by Hawthorne becomes a way of his female to fight against the domestic violence by male. In shorts, through his story, Hawthorne boldly enforces his female character triumphant as a way for resistance toward violence around her life. Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to identify the problems faced by students in learning English speaking at Hadsaithong School in southern Thailand, the factors causing these problems, and the solutions that students use to overcome them. The study included 10 high school students, 5 males and 5 females in Grade 9. Internal factors such as motivation, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, fluency, shyness, anxiety, and self-confidence were identified as challenges, along with external factors such as the learning environment, teacher motivation, facilities, and lack of opportunities to use English in daily life. The methods students use to solve their English-speaking problems include learning through YouTube, asking English teachers to use English in class, asking fluent friends for help, or ignoring the problems. .

Abstract

The research problem formulated for this study is to examine the anxiety experienced by students when learning English and how they cope with it. Qualitative research is employed to collect data and focus on the research problem. The descriptive analysis is applied to provide answers to the questionnaire about Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) factors of male and female students. The findings showed that foreign language anxiety of the first-year students at Yala Rajabhat University, Thailand, reached the same extent as that at different school levels. The current study shows that there is no discernible difference in the foreign language anxiety scale between male and female students.

Abstract

This research specifically explores the barriers as experienced by English lecturer in teaching speaking skill during online learning at English Study Program Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This study is a descriptive analysis with phenomenological approach, which conducts in-depth interview towards five students and lecturers who were following speaking class during online learning. The results demonstrate the barriers faced in teaching speaking online namely unstable connection of internet media, not good the quality of video, not all students can access internet media and choose media for learning. Moreover, can not give feedback directly, students do not understand the material, and lecturers cannot develop the method. Furthermore, teaching targets, students cannot understand the material, and lecturers can not evaluate students performance directly. The conclussion obtains the barriers that faced by internet connection unstable, the quality of video, many students can access the media, cannot give feedback directly, don’t understand the material and lecturers cannot vary the method. Abstract

This study aimed to determine students' perceptions of the use of MALL in the reading class on their learning development using mobile phones as a distance learning medium, especially in the 4.0 era and because of the current conditions faced by students such as the advances in technology that must be overcome to maintain the quality of education or education. student. lecturers must take advantage of MALL, this has been aimed at creating an innovative and creative learning environment with an integrated learning system based on faith and piety, as well as science and technology. This study used descriptive qualitative research, because this study was intended to explain and control symptoms, how much influence the use of smart phones or mobile phones has on improving students' academic reading in the reading class, data collection in this study was intended to obtain strong and relevant data, data collection techniques used by researchers was a questionnaire. This research was carried out in the sixth semester students of the English Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. The sample is twenty students Apart from the rapid development of technology, one of the factors supporting the used of MALL in the teaching system in the reading class by lecturers because of the corona virus which requires students to study remotely or study online. The findings of this studied indicate that the use of MALL in the learning process in the reading class is quite helpful for them, this can be seen from the scale obtained by students based on the results of the Guttman scale analysis, the results of 68% according to the interpretation table are in the range of 0.51 – 0.99, so it can be concluded It is said that the perception of students who use MALL in the reading class is good enough. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine students’ experiences in following teaching and learning process of microteaching classes at English Education Program Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This research designed using qualitative research that uses descriptive methods as a procedure to obtain descriptive data. The researcher taken sixth semester students to collect research data. The instrument of this research used questionnaire to get the data about students’ experiences in following teaching and learning process of microteaching classes, in the form of open-ended questions with a choice of Yes or No. In addition, there are 16 question items given to the sixth semester students based on the adoption of the Microteaching Book (Sofendi, 2014). And video observations are used to ensure the student answers so that the data is more valid. The results showed that the students gained overall experience in following teaching and learning process of the microteaching class at English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine teachers roles in overcoming special needs students difficulties in learning English at elementary schools In Bengkulu city. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The research instrument is in the form of Question Lists which are based on Harmer in (Naibaho, 2019). The results of the study, of the 10 roles of the teacher according to Harmer in (Naibaho, 2019) almost all the roles of the teacher in overcoming the difficulties of learning English for special needs students in Bengkulu elementary school are applied. There are 10 teacher roles in teaching special needs students, namely (1) controller (2) organizer (3) assessor (4) prompter (5) participant (6) resource (7) observer (8) tutor (9) performer and (10) teaching aids. only one role was not implemented, namely the tutor by the teacher at SD Fatma Kenanga because the special needs students had been accompanied by a companion teacher or shadow teacher to assist in learning activities, the researchers suggested that the role of the teacher in teaching special needs students to be emphasized more because teaching special needs students required extra skills for the teaching process. For future researcher who are interested in conducting similar research, it is advisable to conduct research on large samples or research subjects and also at other levels of education Key words : Teachers Roles, Special Needs Students, Difficulties

Abstract

Inclusive education is an alternative education for the students with special needs because the students with specials needs and other students learn in the same class. The purpose of this research is to find out what difficulties are experienced by the students with special needs at Alam Mahira Bengkulu elementary school. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The research subjects were elementary school students in grades 1-6 with special needs at Alam Mahira Bengkulu. Data collection techniques through observation, and interviews. The results showed that; the difficulties faced by students with special needs at Alam Mahirah Bengkulu elementary school are not too dominating, in learning, the students can still follow learning in class even though there are some students who do not follow class learning. The researcher gives advice to schools, and English teachers, shadow teachers to establish good relationships, and pay attention to interactions in special needs students and normal students. Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the use of Instagram application in learning English at eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Bengkulu Tengah. This study applied a quantitative method. The subject of this research was twenty eight students who learn English at XI MIPA 1 in SMAN 1 Bengkulu Tengah. The researcher used English test to know the use of instagram in teaching English. The English test consisted of four skills of English; listening, reading, speaking, and writing skill. The test was given after the researcher implemented instagram as media in teaching English. Moreover, the researcher made video recording while conducting the research. the use of Instagram application was effective to develop students’ English ability. It was proved by mostly the students got English score >KKM (78) afer using Instagram application. There were only ten students who cannot reach the KKM but their score was still above 60. Moreover, based on the interview result the students’ admitted that the use of Instagram in teaching English was so fun because they can learn while playing. In Instagram there were many accounts which helped them to learn vocabulary, grammar, and four English skills. the researcher recommends the students to apply kind of activities on the Instagram such as making English video or writing the English captions to develop their English skill. Abstract

Debate is an activity to fight for the team's argument by presenting strong and relevant evidence so that the team's argument wins, convincing the jury that the team's argument is valid, strong, and true. Therefore, debate participants need to know the mode of their argument. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe the dominant mode of argumentation used by debaters at the 2021 National University Debating Championship (NUDC). The research design of this study used a qualitative descriptive method. The instrument used is an observation sheet. The subjects of this study were the participants of the Open Quarterfinals room D1 (NUDC) 2021, Open Semifinals D1 (NUDC) 2021, and Novice Grandfinals (NUDC) 2021 debates. The results of this study indicate that the debate participants used all the argumentation modes in NUDC and the most used or the most dominant argumentation mode was evaluative argumentation. For future researchers, it is recommended to conduct an in-depth investigation of the debate. Keywords: Speaking, Debate, Mode, Argumentation
