Abstract

Shrimp shell waste has long been merely kitchen trash discarded by housewives. Yet beneath these seemingly worthless shells lies extraordinary nutritional content. This community service activity aimed to empower PKK mothers in RT Sawojajar 2 to process shrimp shell waste into healthy, durable, and economically valuable organic seasoning. The method employed was participatory demonstration and training, where the mothers not only observed but also directly practiced the entire production process. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge: from only 2 individuals (10%) who knew how to process shrimp shells before the activity, to 18 individuals (90%) after the activity. As many as 16 out of 20 mothers (80%) expressed willingness to replace synthetic seasonings with homemade products. The products produced by the mothers were also deemed marketable, with production costs as low as IDR 7,500 per 100 grams. This activity proves that a zerowaste living approach can begin from the household kitchen, with tangible impacts on health, savings, and environmental sustainability. Abstract

Hospital Health Promotion plays an important role in improving public health literacy and supporting preventive healthcare services. However, health promotion activities in several hospitals in Tuban are still predominantly conducted using conventional methods, resulting in limited effectiveness and accessibility of health information. This community service program aimed to optimize hospital health promotion through the utilization of digital educational media. The program was implemented using a participatory and educational approach involving healthcare workers, hospital health promotion staff, and hospital management. The activities consisted of preliminary assessment, development of digital educational media, training and mentoring sessions, implementation of digital health promotion, and evaluation. The digital media developed included educational videos, digital posters, social media content, and QR code–based educational materials. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills regarding the utilization of digital media for health promotion activities. Healthcare workers were able to develop and use digital educational content effectively within hospital services. Patients and visitors also demonstrated positive responses toward the use of digital educational media because the information was considered more attractive, interactive, and easier to access compared to conventional methods. In addition, digital media contributed to improving the consistency and efficiency of health education delivery in hospitals. In conclusion, optimizing hospital health promotion through digital educational media can enhance healthcare workers’ competencies, improve public access to health information, and support the improvement of healthcare service quality. Continuous training and institutional support are necessary to ensure the sustainability of digital-based health promotion programs in hospitals.

Abstract

Adolescents are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS-related risk behaviors due to limited knowledge, misconceptions, peer influence, and inadequate access to accurate health information. Educational interventions and mentoring programs are important strategies to improve adolescents’ awareness and preventive behaviors. The SMART-Teen (Student Movement for Awareness, Resilience, and Prevention against HIV/AIDS) program was developed as a community service initiative to strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention among adolescents. This community service program employed a participatory educational and mentoring approach involving 120 adolescents from five SMA/MA/SMK institutions in Tuban Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The intervention was implemented over five days and included educational sessions, group discussions, case-based learning, educational games, and peer mentoring activities. Pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted to evaluate changes in participants’ knowledge and attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS prevention. The findings demonstrated an improvement in participants’ knowledge and attitudes following the intervention. The mean knowledge score increased from 62.4 ± 10.8 before the intervention to 86.7 ± 8.3 after the intervention. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness and reduced misconceptions regarding HIV/AIDS prevention. The SMART-Teen program effectively improved adolescents’ knowledge and awareness regarding HIV/AIDS prevention through educational and mentoring strategies.

Abstract

Loneliness is a common psychosocial problem among older adults that negatively affects mental health, quality of life, and overall well-being. This community service program aimed to improve older adults' knowledge and skills in applying mindfulness relaxation therapy and to reduce loneliness among participants at Posyandu Lansia in Tuban Regency, Indonesia. A participatory training approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design was implemented in September 2025. The program involved 30 older adults and five Posyandu cadres. Activities included health education on loneliness and mindfulness, guided mindfulness relaxation practice, mentoring, and program evaluation. Participants' knowledge was assessed using pretest and posttest questionnaires, practical skills were evaluated through direct observation, and loneliness was measured using the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3. The results showed that participants' knowledge increased after the training, with the mean score improving from 61.8 ± 10.5 to 87.4 ± 7.6. More than 85% of participants correctly performed the mindfulness relaxation techniques, and loneliness scores decreased following the intervention. Participants also reported feeling calmer and more confident in managing negative emotions. Mindfulness relaxation therapy is a practical and effective community-based intervention that can be integrated into routine Posyandu Lansia activities to promote psychological well-being and support healthy ageing.
