Abstract

Research has shown that women are not well portrayed and un-equally represented as men in African Literature. This paper investigates how far this claim is true in relation to the Nigerian Arabic plays. The research is analytic and descriptive in nature. The study analyses the representation of women and describes their portrayal in six (6) randomly selected Nigerian Arabic plays namely; Ustadhun Ragma Anfih (A Teacher in Defiance of Him), Fi-Mash-had at-Tilifisyun (At the Television Viewing centre), Al-Dhakhirat(The Relic), Baqaaun Muqaddar (Destined to survive), As-sayyid Al-muhadir (Mr. Lecturer) and Al-Hasad (The Harvest). The result of the analyses of the characterization ,with the aid of ratio and simple percentage, reveals that women are poorly represented in all the selected plays and the examination of the roles assigned to women in the selected texts shows that women are portrayed as illiterate, evil, liars, sex toys and disobedient. This paper recommends that authors of the Nigerian Arabic plays should assign more positive roles to women in their writings to reveal some of the positive roles played by women in the society and equally put more female characters in the characterization.

Abstract

T This study comprehensively examines the multifaceted challenges impeding rural development in Afghanistan and proposes strategic recommendations for achieving sustainable growth. The research employs extensive document analysis, a critical review, and a literature review spanning 2020 to 2024, analyzing institutional, socio-cultural, economic, environmental, and infrastructural factors affecting rural development. The findings reveal that development is hindered by institutional obstacles such as ineffective governance, centralized planning, and a lack of coherent strategies, alongside socio-cultural issues like migration, low educational attainment, gender disparities, and economic barriers including poverty, unemployment, and limited market access. Environmental concerns such as land degradation and inadequate infrastructure further exacerbate these challenges. The study recommends a holistic approach, emphasizing decentralization, community engagement, infrastructure investment, sustainable agricultural practices, and vocational training to build local capacities. Collaborative efforts between stakeholders are essential to drive sustainable development in Afghanistan's rural areas.

Abstract

The purpose of this film review is to investigate the nuanced portrayal of women who are practicing celibacy within the framework of the Indian Bengali film Cosmic Sex. The film explores the transformational role that women adopting celibacy as a spiritual practice might play, as well as the connection between celibacy and the prevention of violence. Through its investigation of cosmic consciousness and sexuality, the film offers a fresh viewpoint on the ways in which women, by adopting Brahmacharya (the concept of celibacy in Hinduism), contribute to the establishment of a harmonious social order. The cultural significance of the film is its ability to challenge conventions and promote a holistic approach to empowerment. In this approach, celibacy is portrayed as a tool for self-realization and a weapon for averting violence. The review sparkle illuminated on the junction of spirituality, female agency, and societal harmony within the film.
