Abstract

Language acquisition cannot just be acquired from birth. There is a process and stages in acquiring a language. Language is obtained because of the continuous practice factor. It is possible for someone who already has a mother tongue to have a second language (B2) which is used as a communication tool alongside the first language. Acquisition of a second language can be obtained through the influence of the environment or activities carried out continuously. This study will describe how the effect of viewing on social media YouTube affects the acquisition of a second language for a five years old girl. This research uses qualitative methods with descriptive explanations. The results of this study found that the subject's second language proficiency in English was evident from his understanding of the films and videos she had watched repeatedly. His mastery of a second language can also be seen in the ability of the subject to mention the objects around her, the names of fruits and animals, and to be able to make simple sentences in English. Keywords: Language acquisition, second language, YouTube.

Abstract

Abstract: Language is an important and primary communication tool in daily life. Basically speaking is not only about delivering messages from the speaker to the listener. But, language is also related to diction, politeness, and attitude. In the era of globalization and sophisticated technology, sometimes it makes the speakers forget important things in the process of communicating or speaking. This is certainly related to the culture that developed in this country, Indonesia. The ability to speak is an important part of communication. This is because we have a culture and customs background that uphold the norms of politeness. The politeness of the language at this time, especially among adolescents has begun to be set aside, even some of them no longer care about it. Need to be held and conducted politeness research on students in the boarding environment. It is hoped that this research will provide a solution to the impoliteness of students in the language of the communication process. In general, these violations are caused by three factors, namely language ability, ability to understand context, and closeness. The situation above is also felt by the boarding house owner who is inhabited by students. The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Bassey (1999: 25) states that "Case study methods involve the collection and recording of data about a case or case ..." This statement can be interpreted that the case study methods include the collection and recording of data about one case or more. From the findings above, the results obtained for politeness of language by 46% and language impoliteness of 53%. Based on the results of these calculations it can be concluded that the communication or language process between boarders (students) and boarding owners is classified as impolite. The figure of 53% results of language impoliteness can occur by several factors, including the sense of closeness with the owner of the boarding house, the wrong choice of diction, and the language style used by the occupants of the boarding house. Keywords: politeness language, language, students

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of the study was to determine the stages of the linguistic first language acquisition process which emphasized the aspects of sound and pronunciation in children aged two to four years. Research focuses on phonological analysis of sound and pronunciation in a pragmatic perspective. This type of qualitative research uses a cross sectional approach, namely data collection from the age of two to four years at the same time in order to obtain complete and fast data so that it can describe each individual in the process of acquiring his language. The focus of research is all sounds or sounds that are spoken or produced by the child in a pragmatic view, namely when communicating. Sub focus in research is the sound and pronunciation of children according to the theory of Susan M. Gass and Larry Se, at the initial stage the pronunciation of children is not the same as the pronunciation of adults. Some sounds can be distinguished at first such as: the difference between consonants in [ta] and [da]. Even when children start using words that more or less resemble adult words, at least in a sense, there are different pronunciations, namely deletion of syllables (em..bek→goat), elimination of sound (japah→jerapah→giraffe), and simplification process words (fis→fish). The results showed that there was a relationship between the ability of sound produced by children and pragmatic rules according to their age. In the acquisition of languages and stages of linguistic processes with almost the same age there are also differences between children with each other.
