Abstract

The Saudi Arabia's Grand Vision 2030 which has been launched since 2016, but Saudi Arabia's involvement in the political arena in the Middle East has drained the finances of this rich country. Saudi Arabia actually wants to get out of the mud of conflict in the region and find a way to save face under de facto of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) leadership. The larger goal of Saudi Vision 2030 is more important than maintaining its regional hegemony under the shadow of the United States. MBS's policy of involving Saudi Arabia, which is supported by the United States and the West in regional conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Qatar, has proven to be inconsistent with expectations because it is hampered by the activeness and effectiveness of Iranian proxies. To what direction of Saudi Arabia's military policy in the Middle East region to face Saudi Vision 2030, under his Command as a Minister of Defense, MBS can regulate the rhythm of Saudi Arabia's military policy while, at the same time, maintaining its hegemony in the region with military independence and reducing the intensity of military involvement in regional conflict zones and trying to normalize relations with Iran and Turkey so that they can focus on the Saudi vision program 2030. Keywords: Vision, Saudi Arabia, military, hegemony, regional.

Abstract

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has implications for the birth of armed groups that continue to be polarized within Palestine, such as the PLO, Hamas, Fatah, and others to the PNA. However, one group that exists and has a strong resonance in the Islamic world is Hamas. The resonance also reached Indonesia. This study will examine the polarization of Hamas and its military activities which are considered to represent the interests of Palestinian Muslims. As a result, this has a snowball effect by generating bigger and stronger support which ultimately affects the issue of Indonesia's national defense., This study uses a qualitative method with an analysis of geopolitical theory. The results showed that the polarization that occurred was caused by the ideological differences between Hamas and Fatah and the different points of view between Hamas members. Hamas activities in Palestine have no effect on the issue of Indonesian defense because the forms of response are limited to humanitarian solidarity and equality of belief.

Abstract

Indonesian Islamic banks are required have minimum capital in relation to bank’s risk profile rating that comes from the comprehensive risk assessment process. This is a qualitative study to observe how Islamic banks in Indonesia respond to the regulation, with the focus observation on the material risk identification process, risk indicators and determination of risk level. Based on discussion with some risk officers of Islamic banks indicates that the banks do not have specific process to identify material risks. They make assessment on risk types that have been defined by regulator. They also do not develop additional Islamic risk indicators to describe the unique risks of Islamic transactions. They just follow the risk indicators that have been defined by regulator. To determine the rating of each material risk, they defined some scales and threshold derived from the bank’s risk appetite and tolerance. From the observation of annual reports, it was found that not all banks disclose their risk profile rating. The number of respondents were limited compared to the number of all Islamic banks therefore the result of discussion might not represent the population. Future research is required to develop methodology for a comprehensive risk assessment for Islamic banks as a prerequisite for the implementation of ICAAP

Abstract

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have withdrawn its troops from Yemen, but its influence remains substantial and significant. From the first stage of the war, Saudi Arabia focused on the north of Yemen, while the UAE actively engaged in the north's south and coastal areas. Not only trains fighters, but the UAE also provides them with financial and political support. This is a descriptive-analytical article, using qualitative methods with data and works of literature, collected various books, journals, and online resources related to the topic. Furthermore, the author uses the "devide et impera" theory to elaborate, examine, and investigate the UAE's policy, as well as its strategy, in Yemen. This article found that UAE's divide and rule strategy is applied to achieve several interests in Yemen, such as countering terrorism, extremism, and Houthi. Nevertheless, the UAE is also ambitious to dispel al-Islah, a group affiliated to the Islamic Brotherhood.
