Abstract

Multifuel stove is an innovation of conventional stove that has the advantage of being able to use various types of fuel. In its operation, multifuel stove consists of many important components, one of which is the combustion tube. This study aims to find out the effect of variations in the diameter of the combustion tube on the characteristics of the flame and water temperature during the heating process. The method used in this study is a combination of experimental studies and literature studies. The variations in the diameter of the combustion tube tested were 4, 5, and 6 inches using used oil and kerosene as fuel. The test results showed that increasing the diameter of the combustion tube tended to accelerate the extinguishing of the fire, this was influenced by a phenomenon called the quenching effect. Meanwhile, the flame temperature tended to be lower with increasing tube diameter. The color of the flame and the temperature of the water were not too influenced by variations in tube diameter and type of fuel. The highest flame temperature was recorded on a 4-inch cylinder with used oil fuel, reaching 719.2 °C, while the longest flame duration was 16.92 minutes on a 4 -inch cylinder with used oil fuel. In conclusion, the performance of used oil can exceed that of kerosene.

Abstract

The Bojong Gede area, which is the current research location, is a mixed area consisting of stations, terminals, markets, shopping centers, education, offices, and housing. The urban layout occurs naturally without an overall urban layout concept. This study aims to identify spatial characteristics and factors that affect connectivity on pedestrian paths in the area around Bojong Gede station. To determine the level of connectivity, the Urban Network Analysis (UNA) tool is used, which is a quantitative analysis that includes three main elements in an urban area, namely roads, intersections, and buildings that represent the built environment. UNA is used to assess environmental quality quantitatively. This includes unplanned areas such as Bojong Gede. The results of the analysis are in the form of potential and problems that will be followed up with design proposals. The UNA study is then compared with the criteria of urban design elements, because the indicators resulting from UNA cannot stand alone to interpret the results of the analysis. The results show that UNA is very effective in assessing the quality of organically growing urban environments.

Abstract

Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is the most widely detected species associated with persistent endodontic infections because it has the ability to form biofilms. This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of calcium hydroxide paste Calcigel® (Prevest DenPro, India) on E. faecalis (ATCC 29212) biofilms in root canals with exposure times of 14, 21, and 28 days. The type of research used was true experimental in vitro by randomly selecting samples of tooth roots on the 14th day of biofilm development and dividing them into six groups: use of Ca(OH)2 as intra-canal medicament for 14, 21, and 28 days, as well as positive control without treatment for 14, 21, and 28 days. Dentin chip suspensions were used for colony form ng units counting to estimates remaining E. faecalis counts. The effectiveness calculation obtained by comparing the test group with the control group at the same treatment duration, with the results of using Ca(OH)2 for 14 days showing a decrease in the number of E. faecalis 96.46%, the results of using Ca(OH)2 for 21 days was 95.20%, while the results of using Ca(OH)2 for 28 days was 94.59%. The results of testing the hypothesis with the ANOVA test showed that there was no significant difference between the effectiveness of calcium hydroxide with exposure to 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days with a significance value of <0.452.

Abstract

Rice husk as organic waste can be used as raw material for activated charcoal. The quality of activated charcoal is influence by the ash content in the raw material, which can inhibit the development of carbon pores and the concentration of chemical compounds during chemical activation. The purpose of this study was to determine the best treatment from pre-treatment using NaOH and KOH concentrations of 10, 20, and 30% on rice husk charcoal activation to produce activated charcoal with the best morphological and proximate characteristics. The method used in this study is an experimental laboratory approach for the characterization and activation of rice husk charcoal. The results showed that the lowest water content of activated charcoal was obtained with N30 treatment, namely non-pre-treatment with activation using 30% KOH and P30 treatment (pre-treatment and 30% KOH), namely 1.23 and 1. 47%. Activated charcoal with NaOH pre-treatment all had lower ash content compared to non-pre-treated activated charcoal and commercial charcoal. The morphological characteristics showed that the development of activated charcoal pores of rice husk with pre-treatment was better than non-pre-treatment, which was indicated by the number of pores in a certain area unit. Increasing the concentration of KOH resulted in a decrease in the water content and ash content as well as an increase in the porosity of the activated charcoal of rice husk.
