Abstract

This research was conducted at DAKAR Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in Cilegon City, Banten, with the aim of determining the application of the singing method to improve early reading skills in children aged 4-5 years. Initial observations revealed that during learning activities, only a few children recognized letters and words, while the majority did not yet. Therefore, to assess the reading abilities of these young children, it is necessary to develop more engaging and effective learning methods to improve their understanding of letters during the early reading stage, including singing while introducing letters and words. The research methodology was descriptive qualitative, as the researcher aimed to describe or elaborate on an event by conducting in-depth research related to the research topic. The results of the study, through data collection through direct observation, interviews, and documentation, concluded that the implementation of the singing method was highly effective in improving early reading skills in children aged 4-5 years. Evidenced by the use of the singing method, children listened to the alphabet song sung with enthusiasm, repeated the vowel and consonant sounds requested by the teacher, imitated the pronunciation of letters A to Z, increased their vocabulary for communication, and developed their speaking skills.

Abstract

Birrul Walidain Gondangrejo Kindergarten, East Lampung, is an early childhood education institution that seeks to develop all aspects of child development, especially children's cognitive abilities through the use of concrete and interactive learning media. To optimize learning, it is necessary to add media with a new model so that the available teaching media is more maximal and varied. In this study, the "Magic Drawer" media was developed, where the term "magic" philosophically refers to a media that is able to foster curiosity, provide an interesting learning experience, and present educational surprises that stimulate the thinking skills of children aged 4-5 years. This research aims to develop plywood media into a "Magic Drawer" and find out its effectiveness in improving the cognitive abilities of children aged 4-5 years. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) model. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of validation by material experts and media experts show that the "Magic Drawer" media is very suitable for use in early childhood learning. Trials limited to children aged 4-5 years showed an increase in cognitive abilities, such as recognizing colors, shapes, numbers, and the ability to group and think logically. Based on the results of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, the "MagicDrawer" media is effective and interesting to use in learning activities. Thus, plywood-based learning media developed into a "Magic Drawer" can be used as an alternative educational media to support the optimal improvement of children's cognitive abilities.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of fine motor development in early childhood, especially 5-6 years old, because this ability plays an important role in supporting children's learning activities. However, the fine motor skills of children at Rohman Nur Islamic Kindergarten, Natar District, have not yet developed optimally, as seen from several children who have difficulty in buttoning clothes, cutting, folding paper, and holding colored pencils properly. Therefore, it is necessary to use interesting learning media that are appropriate to the characteristics of children, one of which is sawdust which has a light texture, is easy to shape, and is easily found in the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the efforts of teachers in developing fine motor skills in children aged 5-6 years through sawdust media. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive type, with 21 subjects consisting of 6 children who have not developed, 9 children who are starting to develop, and 6 children who are developing as expected. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of data collection, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that teachers' efforts through careful planning, the use of appropriate learning methods and media, guidance, and ongoing evaluation can significantly improve children's fine motor development, reaching the expected development category. Therefore, the use of sawdust can be an effective alternative learning medium to support the fine motor development of early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of metacognitive strategies in Early Childhood Education (ECE) to enhance self-regulated learning (SRL) among children aged 4–6 years in the digital era of 2026. Digital technology has fundamentally transformed the early childhood learning landscape; however, this transformation has not been matched by adequate pedagogical strategies to cultivate independent learners from an early age. A metacognitive approach—encompassing children's ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own learning processes—is considered a strategic solution to address this challenge. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model with a quasi-experimental design. The sample comprised 120 early childhood learners from 6 ECE institutions in Medan City, North Sumatra, selected through purposive cluster sampling. Data were gathered using structured observation instruments, an SRL scale, and in-depth interviews with teachers and parents. Results indicated that the application of technology-based metacognitive strategies significantly improved children's SRL scores by 38.7% (p < 0.001) compared to the control group. The self-monitoring dimension showed the highest improvement (42.3%), followed by independent planning (35.6%) and self-evaluation (38.1%). These findings suggest the necessity of regularly integrating metacognitive strategies into ECE curricula, particularly in addressing 21st-century competency demands and the artificial intelligence era.
