Abstract

The number of patients with neurodegenerative disorders increased, especially in the productive age. The neurodegenerative disorder can be prevented by synthetic and natural antioxidants such as from plants. The herb of galling, Cayratia trifolia (L.) Domin), has long been traditionally used to prevent degenerative diseases by drinking decoction. The current study aimed to compare the antioxidant capability between infusion and decoction of galling against DPPH. The herbs were extracted with two methods, namely infusion, and decoction. This study used 7 different serial concentrations ranging 7.81 till 500 µg/mL, while the optical density was recorded at 515 nm using a spectrophotometer. The results demostrated that both infusion and decoction have antioxidant activity against DPPH with IC50 values of 87.55±1.01 (strong category) and 65.38±2.26 µg/mL (strong category), respectively. There was a statistically significant (p<0.05) between the IC50 values of infusion and decoction. In conclusion, galling is efficacious as an antioxidant source for preventing and treating degenerative diseases.

Abstract

Acute sinusitis (AS) can be defined as inflammation of the nose due to infection of the preanal sinus. Sinusitis is a common condition that occurs in children. Children experience an average of 6-8 colds per year with 0.5-5% developing acute sinusitis infection. Nasal corticosteroid drugs that are often used for sinusitis therapy are fluticasone. Not only that, antibiotic class drugs can also be used for the treatment of acute sinusitis, one of which is amoxicillin. The purpose of making this systematic review is to determine the effectiveness and combination of fluticasone and amoxicillin drugs in dealing with acute sinusitis treatment problems. The literature search was conducted electronically at PUBMED and was in accordance with the protocol made by PRISMA in conducting this systematic review. The literature search was conducted electronically for articles published in the last 10 years (from January 2013 to May 2023) and specific keywords 1. "acute sinusitis", OR 2. "fluticasone", OR 3. "amoxicillin", AND 4. "children" were used in the search. Inclusion criteria included experimental study design (randomized controlled trial). Articles were excluded according to case-control, cohort or qualitative study types. The data to be retrieved were the study population, type of intervention performed, study design, control variables, as well as the conclusions of the study. The article found 22 journals in the search strategy. In the end, there were 3 journals that met the eligibility criteria and were included in this systematic review. The three studies explained that the combination of fluticasone and amoxicillin had a more effective effect than monotherapy.

Abstract

Sodium cyclamate is an artificial sweetener that is often circulated in the community. Sodium Cyclamate has the advantage of a higher sweetness level ± 30 times that of cane sugar or sucrose at a price that is relatively more affordable than natural sweeteners. However, excessive use of cyclamate can cause health problems. The maximum level of cyclamate use regulated in Permenkes 772/Menkes/Per/IX/88 is 3g/L for food and beverages. This article review aims to find out the various methods that can be used in determining the level of sodium cyclamate in soft drinks. The method used in this article review is a literature study with primary data in the form of national journals from the Google Scholar databases that have inclusion and exclusion criteria. The keywords used in the literature search process are "Cyclamate Sodium Level Analysis" and "Soft Drinks". Based on 23 journals with 12 main journals thoroughly reviewed, it is known that there are several methods for determining sodium cyclamate levels in soft drinks, namely Alkalimetry, Gravimetry, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
