Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning approach on students' learning motivation. This study uses quantitative research with an experimental approach. The research design used is Pre-Experimental Design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design model. The study population was all fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Parakansalam and SD Negeri 2 Sukajadi with a total of 58 students. Data collection techniques include observation, learning motivation questionnaires, and documentation. The main research instrument was a 25-item learning motivation questionnaire using a Likert scale. The results of the study showed that there was an effect of increasing student learning motivation after the implementation of the Discovery Learning approach. At SD Negeri 2 Parakansalam, the average learning motivation score increased from 63.8 to 84.7. While at SD Negeri 2 Sukajadi, the average score increased from 62.9 to 83.5. The results of the hypothesis test showed that the calculated t value was greater than the t table, so H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. This indicates that the Discovery Learning approach has a significant effect on students' learning motivation. This study concluded that the Discovery Learning approach is effective in increasing elementary school students' learning motivation.

Abstract

Student disruptive behavior is one of the problems faced by many elementary school teachers in managing classes, especially for lower grade students who are in the transition period from play to formal learning so that they do not yet have fully mature self-control. This study aims to describe and analyze teacher strategies in dealing with student disruptive behavior to support effective learning. This study uses a case study approach. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with data validity guaranteed through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results of the study indicate that (1) The most dominant disruptive behavior is talking outside the learning context, followed by behavior that disturbs friends, walking around without permission, and not paying attention to teacher explanations; (2) Supporting factors for the implementation of teacher strategies include pedagogical competence, teaching experience, school environmental support, and parental support, while inhibiting factors include less varied teaching methods, limited facilities and equipment, lack of parental attention, peer influence, and teacher emotional exhaustion. This study concludes that appropriate and correct teacher strategies can overcome disruptive behavior and make a positive contribution to effective learning.

Abstract

Differentiated learning has not been implemented optimally so that it affects the increase in learning motivation. This study aims to explore differentiated learning in increasing student learning motivation. This study uses a case study approach. Samples or respondents were selected purposively involving school principals and curriculum teachers. Data collection methods used observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that (1) Differentiated learning planning has been structured according to school needs; (2) The organization of differentiated learning is carried out by following established norms and procedures, namely the division of tasks and responsibilities; (3) The implementation of differentiated learning is carried out consistently and procedurally according to the plan. Control/Evaluation of differentiated learning starts from the assessment stage to follow-up. The conclusion of this study is that properly managed differentiated learning can increase student learning motivation.

Abstract

School libraries are a crucial component of the elementary education ecosystem, serving as learning resource centers, information centers, and drivers of literacy culture. However, library management at the elementary school level often faces classic obstacles, ranging from limited collection variety, inadequate facilities, low student visits, and suboptimal management amidst the challenges of digital device disruption. This study aims to describe and analyze in depth library management, including aspects of planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling, in order to increase student reading interest. Furthermore, this study identifies supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the effectiveness of library management. This study uses a qualitative case study approach. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation of physical conditions and services, interviews with the principal, library managers, teachers, and students, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques were carried out interactively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results show that effective and systematic library management contributes significantly to increasing student reading interest. The conclusion of this research is that inclusive and well-organized library management not only fulfills physical comfort (aesthetic value) but also stimulates students to build knowledge independently (constructivism principle).

Abstract

This study aims to describe juvenile delinquency in the digital era and identify the challenges and opportunities of Islamic Religious Education in dealing with juvenile delinquency in SMP Negeri 2 Sangatta Utara. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with field research methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that juvenile delinquency that occurred included skipping school, excessive use of gadgets, cyberbullying, and lack of student discipline. The challenges of PAI are the low digital literacy of teachers, conventional learning methods, and the influence of the environment and student associations that are less supportive, while the opportunity lies in the use of digital media as a means of learning, the delivery of more attractive Islamic values, and cooperation between teachers, schools, and families in fostering students' morals.

Abstract

Religious character education based on Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays an important role in strengthening students' moral and spiritual development. However, evidence regarding its management in Islamic elementary schools remains limited. This study aims to describe the management of IRE-based religious character education in three Islamic elementary schools in Balikpapan City, Indonesia, through five management functions: planning, organizing, actuating, controlling, and innovation. A descriptive qualitative multi-case study was conducted as the preliminary needs analysis stage of a broader research and development project. Data were collected through interviews, participant observation, focus group discussions, and document analysis involving principals, IRE teachers, and parents. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability procedures. The findings indicate that religious habituation programs, including congregational prayer, Qur'an memorization, and character-building activities, have been implemented in all schools. However, these programs are managed as routine activities rather than as an integrated management system. Planning remains normative without systematic needs assessment, organizing depends largely on IRE teachers, controlling lacks standardized evaluation instruments, and innovation is limited and unsustained. Cross-case analysis also reveals weak collaboration between schools and families in reinforcing religious character, especially during school holidays. The study concludes that an integrated, evidence-based management model is needed to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of religious character education in Islamic elementary schools.

Abstract

The regeneration of ulama faces significant challenges amid the modernization of pesantren and the rapid advancement of digital technology. This study analyzes the dynamics between traditional pesantren education and the Pendidikan Kader Ulama (PKU) program initiated by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), with a focus on digital-era adaptations. Using a qualitative library research approach, data were drawn from the foundational 2020 study by Ependi and Penggabean, supplemented by recent scholarly sources (2021–2026), policy documents, and program reports. Findings reveal persistent issues: declining mastery of classical yellow books (kitab kuning) due to curriculum shifts (70% general knowledge), accreditation problems of PTKU programs, and the erosion of ulama authority from political involvement and the rise of non-formal preachers. However, digital tools offer opportunities for hybrid learning, wider dissemination of kitab kuning interpretations, and enhanced cadre recruitment. This research proposes an optimization framework integrating digital platforms while preserving traditional values. The novelty lies in bridging historical analysis with contemporary digital solutions for sustainable ulama regeneration in Indonesia. Implications include policy recommendations for MUI, Kemenag, and pesantren leaders to strengthen formal recognition and digital integration.

Abstract

This study investigated the implementation of a bilingual classroom program within Islamic Education (PAI) subjects at SMAN 2 Sangatta Utara using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were gathered through passive participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and then analyzed through an interactive framework. The findings indicated that the program was executed systematically by integrating national curricula with international linguistic goals through code-switching, bilingual slides, and project-based learning. However, several operational barriers emerged, including teachers' limited linguistic competencies, severe shortage of standardized bilingual materials, potential semantic biases in translating sensitive theological concepts, sharp disparities in students' English proficiency, and limited instructional time. To address these challenges, integrated solutions were deployed, encompassing In-House Training (IHT) for teachers, customized scaffolding-based worksheets, standardized mini-dictionaries, differentiated learning strategies, and the flipped classroom model. Additionally, utilizing interactive quiz apps and initiating custom thematic bilingual days successfully reduced cognitive overload and built a supportive ecosystem. In conclusion, the systematic collaboration between teacher capacity building, technological adaptation, and inclusive management successfully sustained the quality of this global competency innovation.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the existence of superior Islamic schools in strengthening the competitiveness of national education in the midst of the dynamics of globalization, technological developments, and the transformation of the modern education system. This study focuses on the role of leading Islamic schools in improving academic quality, building the religious character of students, and developing learning innovations and quality-oriented educational governance. The research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method through the analysis of various scientific sources in the form of journals, books, and previous research results that are relevant to Islamic education and educational competitiveness. The results of the study show that superior Islamic schools are able to build a competitive advantage through the application of an integrative curriculum that combines general knowledge with Islamic values holistically. In addition, strengthening religious culture, the use of digital technology in learning, the professionalism of educators, and visionary school leadership are strategic factors in improving the quality of Islamic educational institutions. The existence of superior Islamic schools also reflects the ability of Islamic education to respond to the demands of social change without ignoring the identity and spiritual values that are the main foundation of education. Thus, superior Islamic schools have an important contribution in producing human resources that are not only academically competitive, but also have moral integrity, adaptive abilities, and religious character that are relevant to the needs of national education in the era of globalization.
