Abstract

Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) education is required not only to develop academic competence, but also to form students' character, emotional intelligence, spirituality, and social concern holistically. In this context, the Love-Based Curriculum (KBC) offers an educational paradigm that places compassion and humanity as the foundation of learning, but the operationalization of compassion values in curriculum practice has not been widely studied. This study aims to analyze the integration of compassionate values into KBC and its contribution to strengthening holistic education in MI. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, then analyzed interactively through data condensation, data presentation, conclusion drawn, and verification by triangulating sources and techniques. The results of the study show that compassion is integrated through learning objectives, teacher example, humanist pedagogical interaction, collaborative learning, habituation, and madrasah culture. The integration strengthens empathy, care, appreciation for differences, social responsibility, and the moral and emotional development of students. However, its implementation still faces limitations in the operationalization of indicators and compassionate value assessments. Research concludes that compassion can serve as a bridging value that connects the spiritual, moral, social, emotional, and intellectual dimensions in holistic education. The contribution of the research lies in the conceptual and practical reinforcement that KBC needs to be understood as a pedagogical cultural transformation, not just a change in curriculum documents.

Abstract

Humanistic education in Madrasah Aliyah requires a curriculum that integrates intellectual, emotional, social, moral, and spiritual development. However, love and empathy are often treated as values rather than organizing principles of curriculum design. This study aimed to design a humanistic curriculum for Madrasah Aliyah based on love and empathy and to formulate its principles, components, implementation strategies, and assessment framework. The study employed Research and Development (R&D) using an Educational Design Research (EDR) orientation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, document analysis, focus group discussions, and expert validation involving curriculum specialists, Islamic education experts, school leaders, teachers, and students. Qualitative data were analyzed interactively through data condensation, data display, and conclusion verification, while expert validation findings informed iterative product revision. The results indicate that love functions as the philosophical and ethical foundation, whereas empathy operates as a socio-emotional competency translating values into social practices. The resulting curriculum integrates humanistic objectives, learning experiences, dialogic pedagogy, teacher modeling, supportive school culture, and authentic assessment. The study concludes that love-based humanistic curriculum should be developed as a whole-school educational ecosystem rather than an additional instructional theme. Its contribution lies in integrating humanistic education, social-emotional learning, and Islamic values into a curriculum framework for Madrasah Aliyah.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed various aspects of education, including learning strategies and character development among elementary school students. Along with its potential to improve the quality of learning, AI also presents challenges related to ethics, digital literacy, critical thinking, and the formation of students' civic character. This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of AI utilization in strengthening the civic character of elementary school students. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design conducted at UPT SD Negeri 060884, Medan Baru District, Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia, an A-accredited public elementary school selected because of its educational quality and its relevance to the implementation of technology-supported learning. The data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and literature review involving the principal, teachers, and upper-grade students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that AI provides significant opportunities to strengthen civic character through personalized learning, interactive learning media, and the enhancement of digital literacy, critical thinking, responsibility, and democratic values. However, AI implementation also faces challenges, including teachers' digital competence, unequal technological infrastructure, ethical concerns regarding AI use, and the potential overreliance on AI-generated information. Therefore, effective collaboration among teachers, parents, schools, and policymakers is essential to ensure that AI serves as a learning support tool without replacing the teacher's fundamental role in character education. The study concludes that AI can effectively strengthen students' civic character when implemented ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with the values of Pancasila and the objectives of civic education in elementary schools.

Abstract

The criteria for choosing friends from an Islamic perspective have become an urgent topic of discussion for today’s youth. As social beings by nature, forming friendships is a fundamental human need. Technological advancements have made it easier to interact and build social networks. However, the ease of finding friends on online platforms does not necessarily correlate with emotional closeness. The unlimited choice of friends actually leads to confusion regarding the criteria for selecting them. Therefore, guidelines and direction from authentic teachings are necessary to ensure one does not make mistakes in choosing friends. This study is a library-based research project using a qualitative approach. The results consist of data descriptions derived from both primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that in this study, the researcher utilized several perspectives: first, from the Qur’an and hadith; second, from the opinions of renowned scholars, including those of Sheikh az-Zarnuji as cited in his book Ta’limul Muta’allim and Imam al-Ghazali as cited in his book Ihya’ Ulum al-Din. All of these perspectives are consistent with one another and do not contradict each other. They serve as relevant guidance for choosing good friends who can bring benefit and protect one from harm, as having good friends helps preserve one’s moral character and religious commitment.

Abstract

Educational institutions, particularly in private and international schools with high academic and social demands. This study aims to analyze the emergence of institutional demand for wellbeing programs through a case study of psychological intervention conducted in a private school network in Indonesia. This study employed an exploratory case study design using qualitative evidence supported by psychological consultation reports, mental health screening data, and organizational intervention development processes as the primary sources of analysis. The research began with six student counseling cases that revealed broader psychosocial issues within the school ecosystem, particularly among teachers. Subsequently, a mental health screening using the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) was administered to 153 teachers across six schools within one educational foundation. The findings indicated that only 4.7% of teachers were categorized as psychologically stable, while 95.4% showed indications of personality-related or clinical psychological concerns. The dominant personality tendencies identified were histrionic, narcissistic, and compulsive traits. Based on these findings, the psychological service provider developed a holistic teacher wellbeing program consisting of psychoeducational seminars, one-on-one counseling support, yoga-based wellbeing activities, and post-intervention mental health assessments. The results demonstrate that mental health issues among teachers create institutional awareness and increase organizational demand for structured wellbeing services. This study contributes to the literature on institutional customer behavior, service product development, and mental health service innovation in educational settings. The findings suggest that psychological screening data can serve as a strategic foundation for developing evidence-based wellbeing products for educational institutions.
