Abstract

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) conducted by Universitas Sebelas Maret Group 173 in Garunglor Village, Sukoharjo District, Wonosobo Regency, was implemented in response to issues related to salak (snake fruit) waste management and the dominant use of chemical fertilizers in local agricultural practices. Salak fruits that do not meet market standards are generally discarded without processing, leading to production inefficiency and potential agroecosystem disturbances. This topic was selected due to the importance of optimizing local resources and promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices. The program applied a participatory approach based on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), involving observation, interviews, socialization sessions, and hands-on training in the production of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from salak waste. The results indicate increased community understanding and a shift in perception of waste as a productive agricultural input. Ecologically, the initiative supports nutrient cycling and soil quality improvement, while economically contributing to production cost efficiency. Therefore, the utilization of salak waste into liquid organic fertilizer represents a strategic step toward a more circular, adaptive, and sustainable local agricultural system.

Abstract

Parenting knowledge is a fundamental foundation that parents must master as the main provision for shaping children's character. Currently, cultural shifts, civilizational transformations, and technological disruptions have significantly impacted interaction and parenting patterns. However, not all parents comprehend the detrimental effects of technological exposure on child development. The emergence of various issues related to child and adolescent delinquency has become an alarming threat to parents. Consequently, this community service program aims to provide parenting education to address contemporary challenges and alleviate parental anxiety. This activity specifically targets a group of 30 mothers residing in Krajan Hamlet, Ngadirojo Village, Sooko District. The program was implemented using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, encompassing four primary stages: discovery, design, define, and reflection. Through this educational initiative, it is anticipated that parents' understanding of parenting styles relevant to the digital era will improve. Furthermore, the program endeavors to cultivate a parental mindset emphasizing the importance of active involvement in monitoring, guiding, and listening to their children's aspirations.

Abstract

Waste management remains a significant environmental issue in society, including in Ambokembang Village, Kedungwuni District, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. The low level of public awareness regarding waste types and decomposition periods has resulted in suboptimal waste management practices. This community service activity aimed to improve environmental awareness through the utilization of educational media in the form of waste decomposition signboards (plang umur sampah). The methods used included preliminary observation, media design, production and installation of signboards at strategic locations, as well as community socialization activities. The results showed that the waste decomposition signboards were able to enhance community understanding regarding the impacts of waste and the importance of proper waste management. The community responded positively to this activity, as indicated by increased attention to environmental cleanliness and reduced littering behavior. Therefore, the use of waste decomposition signboards is considered effective as an environmental education medium at the community level.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the complex roles undertaken by single career women in Medan City as they navigate social expectations and professional responsibilities, particularly in the context of choosing to delay marriage. The core problem addressed is how societal pressures, cultural stigmas, and rigid gender norms shape the life choices of women prioritizing career advancement over early marriage. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five informants and analyzed using phenomenological methods to interpret their lived experiences. The findings reveal that the decision to postpone marriage serves as both an adaptive strategy and a form of resistance against patriarchal and capitalist structures that impose a dual burden on women demanding both unpaid domestic labor and high economic productivity. These women play multiple roles as professionals, family providers, social contributors, and agents of transformation challenging conventional gender norms. Framed through the lens of socialist feminism, the research highlights that single career women are not passive recipients of societal norms but active subjects redefining womanhood, autonomy, and equality in a modern urban setting. Ultimately, their decision to delay marriage reflects a broader struggle for self-determination, career stability, and gender justice.

Abstract

This study explores the process and outcomes of empowering local communities through digital promotion of the sacred site Waliullah Simbah Buyut Srambi in Tengger Wetan Village. Employing the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, the project aimed to shift the focus from community deficiencies to existing local assets, such as spiritual heritage, local leaders, youth communities, and the tradition of pilgrimage. The program was conducted in four stages: discovery (asset mapping), dream and design (formulation of digital promotion ideas), implementation (community-based digital content production), and participatory evaluation (reflection and sustainability planning). Through a participatory mentoring process, community members particularly the youth were guided to recognize their strengths, develop promotional strategies aligned with their cultural values, and create various types of digital content such as videos, historical narratives, and social media materials. These activities were carried out not as top-down training, but as inclusive and collaborative learning experiences that strengthened community ownership and creativity. The results of this mentoring program demonstrate that digital promotion can become a transformative tool when rooted in local identity and managed collectively. The community's mindset began to shift from passive consumption to active participation, from dependence to initiative, and from being recipients to becoming producers of cultural narratives. The evaluation phase revealed not only the technical outputs, but also the growth of community confidence, solidarity, and intergenerational collaboration. This experience highlights that ABCD is not merely a development framework, but a philosophy that enables rural communities to build resilience, affirm their spiritual-cultural heritage, and engage with wider audiences through digital means. Ultimately, digital promotion became more than just a means of visibility it evolved into a vehicle for community empowerment and sustainable cultural preservation.

Abstract

Dental health education for children is one of the efforts to instill an understanding in children that dental health is important. There are so many choices of health education methods to support good communication. The most commonly used conventional counseling method is lectures, which is a way of teaching through the presentation of facts and ideas orally, with or without media. Another educational method that is also effective and interesting for children is the storytelling method. This study was conducted to determine differences in the level of knowledge of dental and oral health after counseling using conventional methods and storytelling activities in grade 1 students at SD 17 Bengkulu. The total population of this study was 64 children. The results of the counseling conducted at SD 17 Bengkulu showed that grade 1 children still did not have sufficient knowledge about caring for their teeth and mouth, because children at SD 17 Bengkulu rarely received examinations and counseling about dental and oral health from the local health center.

Abstract

Gadget use among teenagers is currently increasingly intensive, especially when it is often used in the learning process. However, excessive gadget use poses a risk to eye health. Prolonged screen exposure can cause complaints such as tired eyes, dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and a decrease in the quality of life of teenagers. The purpose of this community service is to increase knowledge and awareness of high school/vocational school teenagers regarding the dangers of gadget addiction and the importance of maintaining eye health. The methods used include health counseling, interactive education, discussions, and providing materials on the impact of excessive gadget use, the application of the 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye fatigue, managing gadget use time, and the importance of physical activity and adequate rest. The activity was carried out on high school/vocational school students with a participatory approach. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the risks of gadget addiction and its impact on eye health. Participants also understood the steps to prevent vision problems due to uncontrolled gadget use. This health education is expected to shape healthier gadget use behaviors that can maintain eye health and support optimal adolescent growth and development.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in strengthening local economies, creating employment opportunities, and improving household income. Kupang City, as the capital of East Nusa Tenggara Province, has significant MSME potential, particularly in culinary businesses, small trade, creative products, and household services. However, many MSME actors still face challenges related to business legality, simple financial recording, product packaging, and digital marketing. This community service program aimed to improve the capacity of MSME actors in Kupang City through assistance in business legality, simple bookkeeping, product packaging improvement, and digital marketing utilization. The program was conducted from January to February and involved 25 MSME actors from culinary, handicraft, small trading, and service sectors. The method used was a participatory approach consisting of initial observation, training, direct practice, field mentoring, evaluation, and monitoring. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding, as indicated by the average pretest score of 58.4, which increased to 84.2 in the posttest. In addition, 80% of participants were able to prepare simple financial records, 72% improved their product packaging or business identity, 76% actively used social media for promotion, and 60% experienced an increase in sales turnover during the mentoring period. These findings indicate that practical and continuous mentoring has a positive impact on improving MSME literacy, business management skills, market reach, and business independence. Continuous assistance is needed to support MSMEs in Kupang City to become more legal, adaptive, competitive, and sustainable in the digital economy era.
