Abstract

This paper explores the role of Salawat Adhiya Ulami in providing peace of mind to the members ofMajelis Jalsatul Itsnain Baa Alawy in Katapang, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This study employs aqualitative descriptive method and a phenomenological approach to uncover the life experiences of thecongregation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed usingqualitative analysis techniques. The findings reveal that Salawat Adhiya Ulami encapsulates the life historyof the Prophet Muhammad from birth to death and serves as a medium for expressing the congregation'slonging for the Prophet. The study highlights that, through a Sufistic approach, the act of reciting SalawatAdhiya Ulami provides a profound sense of inner peace to the congregation, fostering a belief in attaininghusnul khatimah (a good ending) in their lives. This belief is rooted in the Qur’anic verse: “O calm souls, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing to Him. Enter among My servants, and enter MyParadise.” This research contributes to the study of Islamic spirituality by emphasizing the psychological andspiritual benefits of devotional practices, as well as offering a methodological insight into the use ofphenomenology in exploring religious experiences.

Abstract

Human, in the Qur'anic perspective, is described using various terms, one of which is Al-Basyar. The termAl-Basyar refers to the outward appearance of something beautiful and originates from the word basyarah, meaning skin. This study aims to examine and explore the concept of humans as Al-Basyar from theQur'anic perspective. This research employs a qualitative method with content analysis as the primaryapproach, focusing on the interpretation of Qur'anic verses. Primary data were derived from the Qur'an andcross-checked with secondary sources, including classical and contemporary interpretations. The findings ofstudy reveal that: (a) the word basyar appears 37 times in the Qur'an—31 times without the definitearticle (alif-lam), 5 times with the definite article, and once in the dual form; (b) there are 9 versesdescribing humans as basyar in general, highlighting their physical needs such as eating, having skin, engaging in sexual activity, and experiencing mortality; (c) 5 verses discuss the process of human creationinvolving soil, water, and the infusion of the spirit; (d) 23 verses discuss prophethood, including 13 depictingsocietal rejection and slander of prophets, and 10 emphasizing prophets as ordinary humans (basyar); (e)using a humanistic psychology perspective, basyar represents humans with basic physiological needs such aseating, drinking, sleeping, and sexual relations. This study contributes to Islamic scholarship by providingan integrative understanding of basyar as a term bridging Qur'anic theology and humanistic psychology.Furthermore, the use of content analysis as a methodological tool in exploring Qur'anic conceptsdemonstrates the potential for interdisciplinary approaches in Qur'anic studies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the “crazy rich” as a representation of modern materialism and hedonism has influenced the lives of the young generation of Indonesia in the millennial era. The glamorous and luxurious lifestyle displayed by the “crazy rich” has attracted many individuals to show off their wealth, even when the wealth is not yet truly owned. This phenomenon often ends in investment fraud harming many parties. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of the “fake crazy rich” and fraudulent investment in Indonesia from the perspective of Inayat Khan's philosophy of happiness in Sufism, distinguishing between true happiness and false happiness. This study uses a qualitative approach with Inayat Khan's theoretical analysis as a conceptual framework. Data were collected through literature studies and analysis of relevant social phenomena. The study found that the phenomenon of the “fake crazy rich” and investment fraud in Indonesia reflects the efforts of the younger generation to pursue material wealth as a measure of life success. However, from Inayat Khan's perspective, this is a form of false happiness not providing true life satisfaction, but suffering and humiliation. This study provides a theoretical contribution by applying Inayat Khan's philosophy of happiness to understand contemporary social phenomena in Indonesia. In addition, this study also provides critical insights into the impact of materialism and hedonism on the younger generation and the importance of distinguishing between true happiness and false happiness in modern life.

Abstract

This article investigates the acculturation of Islam with the Aboge community and addresses two primary issues: firstly, the position of Islam Aboge between traditional heritage and a religious sect; and secondly, its adaptation in the face of changing times. The research employs a qualitative methodology with field research as the primary approach. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and document analysis, while data analysis involves thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes in the integration of Islam and Aboge traditions. The findings reveal that Islam Aboge, as a hereditary tradition, remains prevalent among local communities in East Java, particularly in Probolinggo and Jember, where it is embraced by many ethnic Madurese. This cultural interaction has enabled the Islam Aboge community to coexist with mainstream Islamic society. While Islam Aboge shows some similarities with the Abangan typology in Clifford Geertz’s framework, the community retains fundamental Islamic practices such as prayer and fasting, maintaining a distinct religious identity. However, the community faces challenges from modernization, having led to a gradual shift toward mainstream Islam and a decline in adherence to Aboge traditions. This study contributes to the understanding of Islamic acculturation in local contexts and the dynamics of religious identity in the face of social change. It highlights the complexities of maintaining traditional religious practices within modern societal structures. The findings provide valuable insights into the interaction between religion and culture, enriching discussions on religious pluralism and heritage preservation

Abstract

This article examines Qur'anic interpretation in the form of Sundanese poetry, known as nadoman. The focus is on the Kitāb al Tabyīn al-Ajlá wa al-Ahlá fī Tafsīr Sūrah al-A'lá, written by K.H. Ahmad Dimyati (1886–1946). This study employs a qualitative method with a textual analysis approach, focusing on the structure, content, and context of the poetry within the Sundanese literary tradition. Data were obtained through primary analysis of the manuscript and supported by secondary literature on tafsir, Sundanese literature, and pesantren traditions. The findings show that the use of pupujian poetry in Qur'anic interpretation adds a unique dimension to the diversity of tafsir literature in West Java. While adhering to strict poetic rules, such as the nu mber of lines, syllables, and rhymes, this form of interpretation is concise, easy to memorize, and pleasant to hear. It is traditionally sung in mosques during the waiting time for prayer. However, the constraints of the poetic format limit the extent of analytical and detailed explanations, distinguishing it from conventional prose-based tafsir. This form of interpretation contributes not only to the teaching of the Qur'an but also to the preservation and development of Sundanese literary tradition, highlighting the integration of religious education with local culture. This study provides a significant contribution to Islamic scholarship by bridging Qur'anic interpretation with local literary traditions, demonstrating how poetry can serve as an effective medium for transmitting religious teachings. Methodologically, the study underscores the importance of combining textual and cultural analysis to explore localized forms of Qur'anic studies.

Abstract

This study examines the Islamic narratives faced by the Muslim millennial generation in Indonesia, a group often targeted by radical groups. Using a phenomenological approach in qualitative research, data were collected through in-depth interviews and media content analysis involving 30 millennial participants from various backgrounds, including Islamic boarding school students and social media users. This study focuses on three aspects: sources of Islamic narratives, understandings of moderation and ideal Muslim figures, and responses to moderate Islamic narratives. The study revealed a broad spectrum of Islamic narratives, ranging from radical to moderate, shaped by sources such as Islamic boarding schools, teachers, prayer groups, books, and social media. Indonesian Muslim millennials showed a strong preference for moderate Islamic leaders over Salafi figures, reflecting the appeal of narratives that promote tolerance and Pancasila values. The majority of millennials support the spread of moderate Islamic values despite exposure to a variety of narratives. This study contributes to academic discourse by providing insights into the interaction of digital media, religious education, and the formation of Islamic identity. Methodologically, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of combining phenomenological analysis and digital ethnography to understand contemporary religious narratives. These findings are relevant in designing strategies to counter radicalism and strengthen the narrative of moderate Islam in pluralistic societies.
