Abstract

This research aims to analyze the construction of women's piety through QS al-Ahzab verse 33 on social media TikTok. In tracing this construction of piety, the main question is: how is the vers visualized with a certain understanding? and what are the implications to the context of religious patterns in Indonesia? Using a netnographic approach and three analytical models (descriptive, critical, and correlative), this research shows that QS. al-Ahzab verse 33 in the TikTok is visualized with symbols showing the domestication of women at home by playing sound, text on video, captions, and relevant videos. In this case, there are four specific important findings. Firstly, the understanding related to QS. al-Ahzab verse 33 is synonymous with an understanding based on the reasoning in translation rather than on text or sources. Secondly, various posts related to this theme are partly directed toward financial interests. Thirdly, there is an attempt to confirm the identity of a group automatically eliminating the truth of another group's version. Fourthly, a new structuring structure is created in TikTok's social interactions, digital piety. This study contributes to the discourse on how digital platforms shape religious understanding by introducing the concept of "digital piety." The use of netnographic methods allowed for a detailed analysis of user interactions, trends, and implications within TikTok’s unique ecosystem.

Abstract

Interfaith marriage/mixed marriage is currently an unresolved social polemic. It means that the marital status of different religions is still a hot topic of discussion recalling that the impact caused by interfaith marriages is very large. These impacts are child care, inheritance rights, child morals, and up to divorce. Often, interfaith marriages take place based on freedom of reasoning in religion. Thus, to people in an interfaith marriage, the perception of reason provides legal justification to strengthen the legality of interfaith marriages. Therefore, various efforts in interfaith marriages are carried out continuously in Indonesia. This research used the epistemology of Abed al-Jabiri, including Bayani, Burhani, and Irfani, to emphasize reason as Idraku al- Sabab Wa al-Musabbab and reason as Bila Wasitah. This method is different from the epistemological methods suggested by other figures such as Ibn Rushd and Ibn Khaldun. Thus, the researcher used al-Jabiri's epistemological trilogy as a method of thinking to see the freedom of reasoning in interfaith marriages. This research was a qualitative research with heuristic methodical elements and used an epistemological approach. The heuristic method provides criticism against a certain paradigm so that the consequences of criticism become an alternative to a new paradigm. The result of research was Abed al-Jabiri's criticism through an epistemological trilogy to provide limits on freedom of reasoning in interfaith marriages. The research contributes significantly to the discourse on interfaith marriages by providing a novel epistemological framework through Al-Jabiri's trilogy, distinguishing it from previous studies focused primarily on legal or social aspects.

This study aims to reveal the sufism of al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali in the autobiography of al-Washaya and al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal book and the autobiography intertextuality of al-Washaya and al- Munqidz min al-Dhalal? The primary source used is the book of al-Washayaby al-Muhasibi and al- Munqidz min al-Dhalal by al-Ghazali. The Sufism science based on al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali is the scientific culmination of various epistemologies the validity of which can be accounted for. Both of them consider that sufism can satisfy their intellectual and spiritual thirst. The intertextual relationship between those two Sufism books can be seen in those two authors' cultural backgrounds. Their intertextual relations are also found in themes, plots, characterizations, and language styles. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the integration of Sufism with Shari'a as an intellectual and spiritual solution that remains relevant today.

Abstract

The objective of study is mainly to reveal the deep meaning of polygamous verses by using the theoretical approach of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's text study. As a critical Islamic thinker, Nasr produced many controversial views with classical thinkers, including interpreting the quranic polygamy verse. Nasr views the meaning of polygamy in quranic verse in its historical context as a limitation of the human relationship between men and women in the tradition of pre-Islamic Arabia. This initial meaning of that verse has a historical character and is only a starting point for understanding that verse. It is not the main message of the Qur'an. Nasr views the meaning of the quranic polygamy verse in the whole context of the Qur'an. The text's comprehensive context produces the original and significant meanings (magza). Then it also reveals the hidden dimension of meaning (al maskut 'anhu), the monogamy principle. By revealing this hidden meaning, it can counteract the pragmatic polygamists' statements, which are currently conducted on the pretext of religion. This study contributes to Qur'anic hermeneutics by highlighting the importance of the historical and social dimensions of religious texts in understanding verses that are often debated, such as polygamy verses.

Abstract

This paper discusses the moderation attitude to counter radicalism in Indonesia. Why is this research interesting to discuss? Fundamentalism is dammed by education and understanding of diversity. Therefore, the author offers the thoughts and personality of Ibn Rushd. In historical records, Ibn Rushd is a scholar having never attacked personally and accused his opponents of infidelity. The moderation attitude showed by Ibn Rushd can be used as a model for character building for Muslims today. In terms of methodology, this article is a library research. Furthermore, the writer digs up data from Ibn Rushd’s books and uses a philosophical approach with content analysis or hermeneutics. According to Ibn Rushd, a scholar must have several essential moderation personalities. There are three parts: before, in, and after thinking. Before thinking, a scholar must have an open, honest, curious, skeptical, courageous, and patient personality. Scholars’ personality in thinking is speculative, willing to be guided by experience and reason, willing to accept, ready to face mistakes and dare to make decisions. Furthermore, the personality, after thinking, is tolerant and forgiving. The study’s significant contribution lies in its conceptual framework, offering a structured model of moderation that can be applied to address contemporary challenges such as radicalism, exclusivism, and misuse of knowledge.

Abstract

Ibn Sina, the father of early modern medicine, had an unusual psychological concept. He has a different concept about the soul and reincarnation from the other physician. This study examines Ibn Sina's concept of the soul and his views on reincarnation. The research is based on literature data and uses qualitative methods. The results showed that Ibn Sina divided the human soul into three parts: plant, animal, and human. The human soul is eternal. That is, the soul does not decay after death, after separation from the body. The soul lives on in its realm. After death, the soul does not need a new body for its activities. Therefore, there is no reincarnation for the soul, and Ibn Sina disagrees with the concept of soul reincarnation by Aristotle

Abstract

Environmental ethics is a knowledge of ethics that is based on an ethical approach and used to respond to various environmental crises caused by human behavior. This article refers to verses of the Quran and hadiths as the basis of spiritual and environmental ethics values on human interaction with the environment. It elaborates on verses and prophetic traditions that are relevant for obtaining full inspiration of concepts through interpretations and thematic hadiths. It is achieved by reading the full text withoutseparating the context, after identifying the verses of the Quran and hadiths explored based on the context. The religion established by the Whites’ has been accused as one of the causes of environmental damage. However, despite igniting the reaction of religious refusal, it also encourages the reflection on critical theology and methods of reading sacred texts. In principle, Islam teaches environmental ethics integrated into the concepts of tawhîd, khilâfah, amanah, and akhîrah based on Quran and hadith.

Abstract

In political conversation, Ibn Rushd named his political philosophy as “Al-Jumhuriyah wa al-Ahkam” (Republic and Law). This political thought is a form of integration of science and deed. This study employs a literature and historical approach to analyze Ibn Rushd's political philosophy, focusing on his integration of religion and reason in shaping political principles. In this political context, Ibn Rushd prioritizes freedom and independence. In Ibn Rushd’s perspective, independence is not without rules, but independence and freedom should be compatible with religion. Likewise, in Ibn Rushd’s perspective, such freedom and independence is a reflection of democracy. In politics, Ibn Rushd’s thinking is similar to the thoughts of previous philosophers who reconcile religion and philosophy. The findings highlight that Ibn Rushd’s philosophy emphasizes the harmony between religion and rationality as essential to upholding democratic values in governance. There is no contradiction between reason and religion, according to Ibn Rushd, and therefore it is important for reason and religion to work together to uphold the principles of democracy in a country. This study contributes to the scholarly discourse by providing a methodological framework that bridges classical Islamic philosophy with contemporary political theory, offering insights into how Ibn Rushd’s ideas can inform modern governance.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore critically the interpretation result of QS. Al-Taubah/9:71 in Tafsir Qur‟anTematik by the Ministry of Religion Affairs Republic of Indonesia. This is conducted because it issuspected that it contains a gender bias interpretation. This research used a critical qualitative-interpretativedesign by investigating the interpretation of QS. al-Taubah / 9: 71 using a contextualizationinterpretation. The findings reveal that the Thematic Interpretation of Al-Quran by the Ministry ofReligion affairs published for the first time in 2009 represents the interpretation of the QS. al-Taubah/9:71 as legitimacy of limiting the area of political leadership for women. Therefore, the product of suchinterpretations tends to be biased because it limits the area of state leadership based on a particular gender. This interpretation seems to contrast with the meaning of the verse that is found through the exploration oftextual, contextual-historical, and dynamic contextual approaches. The meaning obtained from this versediscusses about the socio-spiritual relationship in the internal Muslim community only, rather than thepolitical context. The same results can also be seen in Tafsir al-Wajiz, in which the work is also theinterpretation of the Ministry of Religion published in 2016, as well as the interpretation of scholars invarious classical commentaries. The implication of the results of the interpretation of gender bias in TafsirQur‟an Tematik can have an impact on government policies in positioning the women in the society, especially in the area of structural leadership of country. This research contributes to the study of Qur’anicexegesis and gender discourse in Islam by offering a critical framework for evaluating genderedinterpretations of religious texts. Additionally, it demonstrates the importance of contextual hermeneutics inaddressing structural biases in Islamic exegesis and proposes a more inclusive approach to Qur’anicinterpretation.
The Shift of Al-Shawkani's Theological Thinking in Tafseer Fath al-Qadeer from Zaydi Shi’i to Ash’ari Sunni Atabik, Ahmad

Abstract

This article aims to examine Al-Shawkani's theological thinking in Tafseer Fath al-Qadeer, which allegedly underwent a shift from the Zaydi (Fivers) Shi'i sect to Ash'ari (Twelver) Sunni theology. Tafseer Fath al-Qadeer is Al-Shawkani's masterpiece in the field of commentary. Al-Shawkani was a leading scholar in Yemen from the late medieval period to the modern era. He grew up in the Zaydi Madhab (school of thought). Nevertheless, he contradicted his original madhab, leading to a shift in his theological thinking. This study employs a qualitative approach using textual analysis of Tafseer Fath al-Qadeer to explore Al-Shawkani's theological perspectives and the reasons underlying this shift. Al-Shawkani's shift in thought becomes evident in his commentary on theological verses in Tafseer Fath al-Qadeer. Referring to Al-Shawkani's arguments on theology, such as issues on seeing God in the hereafter, the coming of God, martyrdom, and istiwa' (God's residence), Al-Shawkani leaned more toward the arguments proposed by the Ash'ari school rather than those by the Zaydi or Mu'tazili madhab. The findings reveal that Al-Shawkani frequently criticized Mu'tazili thoughts using both naqli (scriptural) and aqli (reasoning) propositions, signaling a departure from Zaydi theology. However, in the debate about the Quran's position—whether it is qadim (eternal) or created— Al-Shawkani maintained an independent stance. This shift in thought is reasonable, considering that Al-Shawkani, as a moderate Zaydi Shiite, sought to open himself to theological perspectives from other madhabs, which he considered more accurate. This research contributes to the scholarly understanding of theological evolution within Islamic traditions by demonstrating Al-Shawkani's methodological approach to reconciling theological divergence. It also provides a framework for examining inter-sectarian influences in Islamic theology and their impact on exegetical works.
