Abstract

This study examines the development of life skill curricula in Islamic boarding schools from a qualitative perspective, concentrating on planning approaches, curriculum integration with extracurricular activities, and implementation strategies. This is a qualitative study employing descriptive survey methods. The investigation was conducted at several modern Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) in the Aceh province, including Pesantren AlMuslim Bireuen Pesantren and Dayah Ruhul Qurani Meulaboh. The result shows monitoring and evaluation processes and examines the role of community collaboration and continuous teacher performance improvement in light of the importance of holistic development. The insights derived from this discourse can potentially inform and enhance education policies, fostering the desirable life skills within pesantren organizational settings. Life skill curriculum development in Islamic boarding schools adopts a bottom-up planning approach, accommodating the needs of graduates and institutions while integrating the national curriculum with extracurricular values and activities. Implementation occurs through lectures, counseling, soft skill enrichment, and boarding school activities. Monitoring and evaluation are performed internally and externally, aiming to develop life skills rooted in monotheism, Sharia, and noble character.

Abstract

This study examines the significance of face-to-face classes as a venue for students and instructors to engage in teaching and learning activities in a shared physical space. The researchers employed a quantitative methodology for their study, with a sample size of 50 students from Holy Rosary College Foundation's 1st Year College cohort, which represented the entire population. Instruments for collecting data included interviews and survey questionnaires administered via pen-and-paper exams. The primary objective was to assess the efficacy of instructor-interactive strategies in traditional classroom settings. The findings revealed that various instructor-interactive strategies positively influenced the confidence levels of first-year college students, particularly in activities such as group work, class reporting, oral recitations, adherence to an English Only Policy (EOP), and role-playing exercises. In contrast, students viewed activities such as debates, memorization assignments, public speeches, impromptu speeches, and speech choir as less effective at boosting their speaking confidence. The study demonstrates that instructor-interactive strategies implemented in face-to-face classes have a positive effect on the speaking confidence of first-year college students. In the context of English language learning, these findings highlight the significance of incorporating interactive approaches into classroom instruction while taking individual student requirements into account. Throughout the teaching-learning process, instructors play a crucial role by actively participating in and collaborating on these interactive strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the critical role of digital leadership and teacher digital competence in the successful integration of digital culture in education. Previous research has not sufficiently explored the correlation between digital leadership and teacher competence, particularly in the educational context of Southeast Asia, where these elements have remained understudied. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Kutacane, Southeast Aceh, Indonesia, analyzing the influence of digital leadership and teachers' digital competence on the integration of digital culture. Using a mixed method, this study combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected through surveys of 100 teachers and 50 students and in-depth interviews with 10 teachers. The results of the analysis show that digital leadership has a positive effect on teachers' digital competence, which in turn promotes the effective integration of digital culture in the educational environment. The findings of this study emphasize the importance of digital leadership for educational policymakers and school administrators, suggesting the need for targeted teacher competence development programs. Therefore, the findings are expected to guide the design of effective strategies for integration digital culture.

Abstract

Leadership is the art of inspiring others to achieve organizational goals. In the context of pesantren , visionary leadership is needed to ensure that institutions remain competitive and sustainable. This study aims to analyze the response of Islamic boarding schools to the Islamic Boarding School Law from a leadership perspective. This qualitative-descriptive study was conducted at the Darul Amin Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through interviews with three informants, then critically examined to identify innovative practices, particularly the application of visionary leadership. The Islamic Boarding School Law emphasizes improving service quality—a desirable goal achieved through adaptive visionary leadership. The results show a dominant visionary leadership style, reflected in the boarding school's policies and strategic initiatives. The main policy implemented is the digitization of the pesantren system. Its implementation includes: integration of a digital-based curriculum; improvement of administrative services through applications; digital management of pesantren business units; and strengthening of community relations for regular coverage of pesantren activities. These findings confirm that leadership renewal—particularly vision-oriented and adaptive leadership—is a key factor for the sustainability of Islamic pesantren.

Abstract

This study provides an in-depth analysis of leadership profiles characterized by dynamic enthusiasm, a strong drive for change, and broad social orientation. However, this profile also shows impulsive tendencies, a lack of systematicity, a lack of attention to detail, and a high degree of autonomy from the applicable rules. The analysis is situated in the context of pesantren management in Indonesia. Using comparative case studies of the Darun Najah Pesantren in Jakarta and Ar Raudlatul Hasanah Pesantren in Medan, this study examines how these characteristics emerge and interact in a traditional institutional environment. The findings show that this leadership profile has the potential to encourage modernization and innovation in Islamic boarding schools through charisma, a strong task orientation, and the ability to build strong relationships. However, its overall effectiveness is highly dependent on the institution's capacity to overcome the inherent weaknesses of the leader. Mitigation is carried out through a competent support team with a focus on detailed planning, procedural management, and leadership development. Comparatively, Islamic boarding schools in urban environments such as Darun Najah are more adaptive in accommodating leaders' weaknesses, while more traditional environments such as Ar Raudlatul Hasanah require more careful mitigation strategies. Practically, this study provides guidance for Islamic boarding school administrators to optimize the potential of innovative leaders while managing the risks. Academically, this study contributes a model of psychological profile-based leadership analysis in the context of religious institutions, thereby enriching the study of educational management and organizational psychology.

Abstract

This paper critically assesses the implementation of educational policies at Madrasah Darul Amin and emphasizes that effective leadership is key to improving the quality of education. Through qualitative case studies, data was obtained from observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings show that education policy is not merely oriented towards compliance, but is shaped by the diverse needs of students and the demands of the national curriculum to create a relevant and quality learning experience. The principal acts as a facilitator of change by encouraging innovative teaching methods and the integration of educational technology to increase student engagement. A collaborative culture among teachers—supported by open communication and teamwork—emerged as an important prerequisite for successful implementation. Teacher participation in decision-making strengthened their sense of ownership and commitment to the policy, emphasizing the urgency of democratic leadership. In addition, regular monitoring and evaluation are necessary to make continuous adjustments to optimize policy effectiveness. This study concludes that proactive and collaborative leadership, accompanied by active teacher involvement, significantly improves the quality of education at Madrasah Darul Amin.
