Abstract

This article examines the study of the Prophet’s hadith in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) through secondary hadith texts. Among these texts is al-Mawaiz al-Usfuriyah, also widely known as Arbain, due to its structure which compiles around forty hadiths. This study employs a descriptive-analytical method to explore: (1) the urgency and relevance of studying the Prophet’s hadith through al-Mawaiz al-Usfuriyah, and (2) the methods used in teaching al-Mawaiz al-Usfuriyah in pesantren. The article concludes that teaching al-Mawaiz al-Usfuriyah remains essential and relevant today. It continues to be an effective tool in pesantren for introducing the Prophet’s hadith in a simple, practical, and meaningful way—particularly for beginners and students. In pesantren, this book is often taught using the bandongan method rather than sorogan, as it is commonly studied during the month of Ramadan by students of various educational levels as part of efforts to engage in more positive and beneficial activities during fasting.

Abstract

The Ngupati tradition is a unique cultural practice among Javanese society, particularly in Buntet Pesantren, Cirebon, West Java. Ngupati is performed during the fourth month of pregnancy, following the Neloni ceremony in the third month and preceding the Mitonan in the seventh month. This tradition involves Quranic recitations, prayers, and communal gatherings, reflecting gratitude for God's blessings and prayers for the unborn child's safety. This study explores the history, cultural significance, and social impact of the Ngupati tradition within the Buntet Pesantren community. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews. Findings reveal that Ngupati serves as a medium for preserving ancestral heritage, reinforcing social cohesion, and embodying religious devotion. The practice also highlights the integration of religious and cultural values in Javanese society. Additionally, Ngupati contributes to the community's social structure by fostering mutual respect and collective responsibility. As a symbol of cultural resilience, the Ngupati tradition continues to thrive amidst modernization, reflecting the adaptability of Javanese traditions in contemporary society. This research emphasizes the importance of understanding traditional ceremonies to appreciate their role in shaping and sustaining cultural identities.

Abstract

The Pa'seka Manyiang tradition is one of the traditions carried out by the people of Tulehu village, Salahutu sub-district, Central Maluku regency to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. This tradition is carried out once a year by involving several clans in Tulehu village who also participate in the implementation of the tradition. The purpose of this study is to explain how the Pa'seka Manyiang tradition is carried out in commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's birthday in Tulehu village. The approach used in this study is cultural anthropology as its basic reference. This study uses a method or type of library research. The data collection technique in this study is documentation, namely searching for data on things or variables in the form of notes, books, papers or articles, journals that are related to anthropological studies and Pa'seka Manyiang. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Pa'seka Mayiang tradition is carried out with a series of customs that have been carried out from generation to generation, starting from gatherings between clans to closing with the Pausah event or rubbing charcoal on the face. The wisdom that can be taken from the implementation of the Pa'seka Manyiang tradition is to maintain the relationship between humans and their Creator and fellow creatures or what is known as the term Hablun minallah and Hablun minannas.

Abstract

This article reviews Ad-Dakhil fi Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Karim, a book by Abdul Wahab Fayd that discusses the discourse on deviations in the interpretation of the Qur’an. The focus of this review lies in three key aspects found in volume two, chapter two of the book. First, the aspect of linguistic meaning; second, the rules of Arabic grammar (nahwu); and third, the aspect of Qur’anic recitation (qira’ah). These three aspects serve as a foundation, indicating that Qur’anic interpretation based on linguistics heavily relies on an understanding of these limitations. The book highlights the significant impact of neglecting these elements, particularly the growing superficiality in linguistic interpretation today. This study seeks to answer several questions: what limitations lead to disorientation in linguistic interpretation, what forms of deviation exist, and what constitutes a proper linguistic interpretation. The approach employed is historical, using content analysis as the analytical framework.

Abstract

This study investigates the Islamization process of the meaning and symbolic sacredness in the Banjar community's reverence for the sacred yellow cloth. Amid a robust Islamic identity, this practice fosters a dialectic between local tradition and tawhid (monotheism). This research aims to analyze the Islamization of meaning, the internalization of Quranic values, and the reinterpretation of symbolic sacredness to align with monotheistic principles. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the methodology combines field studies at the Kubah Habib Hamid bin Abbas Bahasyim with tafsir maudhu‘i (thematic Quranic exegesis). Findings indicate the significance of the yellow cloth transformed: from traditional tabarruk (seeking blessings) to ta‘zhim (veneration)—a scholarly view aligned with tawhid. For the younger generation, it has transitioned into a symbol of cultural identity. This study concludes this phenomenon is not syncretism but a creative dialectic and cultural Islamization, shaping a localized "Banjar Islam."

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji kepemimpinan karismatik Waled Nuruzzahri Yahya dalam pengembangan pendidikan Islam di Pesantren Dayah Ummul Ayman Samalanga. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada tiga hal utama: karakteristik kepemimpinan karismatik, strategi pengembangan pendidikan yang diterapkan, serta dampak dari kepemimpinan tersebut terhadap sistem dan kultur pesantren. Dengan pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif dan metode kajian pustaka, penelitian ini menggali literatur akademik lima tahun terakhir. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan Waled Nuruzzahri mengintegrasikan karisma spiritual dengan kemampuan manajerial, menciptakan lingkungan pendidikan yang transformatif. Gaya kepemimpinan beliau memadukan nilai-nilai keislaman klasik dengan strategi pedagogis modern, menghasilkan kultur pesantren yang berakar kuat pada integritas moral dan ketahanan institusi. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa kepemimpinan karismatik dapat menjadi kekuatan strategis dalam mentransformasi pendidikan Islam tradisional menjadi lebih adaptif dan kontekstual.
