Abstract

In the digital age, journalism faces a multitude of ethical challenges that demand critical reassessment of traditional media ethics. This narrative review investigates how communication ethics in journalism and social media have evolved, focusing on themes such as misinformation, transparency, media accountability, and cultural interpretations of ethical standards. Drawing on over fifty peer-reviewed studies sourced from Scopus, Google Scholar, and other databases, the review synthesizes empirical data and theoretical insights to evaluate the current state and future direction of media ethics. The methodology involved targeted keyword searches and thematic categorization of literature from 2010 to 2024, encompassing global perspectives with particular attention to Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The findings reveal that adherence to journalistic codes of ethics correlates strongly with public trust and media credibility. Furthermore, fact-checking initiatives, media literacy programs, and ethical journalism training have demonstrated effectiveness in countering misinformation and enhancing ethical engagement. Discussion highlights the systemic influence of political regimes, market forces, and cultural values in shaping journalistic practice. While regulatory and educational interventions show promise, structural barriers and digital disruption remain significant obstacles. The review concludes by recommending adaptive, context-sensitive ethical frameworks and greater international collaboration to strengthen journalistic integrity and combat misinformation in a rapidly changing media environment.

Abstract

Effective communication strategies have become indispensable in environmental advocacy amid escalating ecological crises. This narrative review explores how participatory and digital communication frameworks influence environmental awareness, public engagement, and policy transformation across varied sociopolitical contexts.Drawing on empirical literature from 2010 to 2024, sources were identified through Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed using terms like "environmental communication," "advocacy strategies," and "digital engagement."Studies were selected based on peer-review status, empirical relevance, and focus on participatory and multimedia approaches. The findings indicate that participatory communication, social media, narrative storytelling, and immersive technologies play pivotal roles in shaping environmental discourse and mobilizing public action.Visual and digital media significantly enhance emotional engagement, message clarity, and behavioral response. However, communication success often depends on systemic factors such as governance models (e.g., democratic vs. authoritarian regimes), economic capacity (e.g., campaign funding), and cultural alignment (e.g., values embedded in messaging). This review offers a multidimensional synthesis of participatory and technology-driven communication frameworks, highlighting policy and practice implications, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Abstract

Digital inequality is a growing concern that contributes significantly to socioeconomic disparities in education, healthcare, and economic participation. This narrative review aims to explore the structural and systemic dimensions of digital inequality and its implications for marginalized communities. Literature was sourced from databases including Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar using a combination of targeted keywords and Boolean search techniques. Articles were selected based on relevance, methodological diversity, and contextual alignment. The review identifies critical themes, including the impact of unequal digital access on educational attainment, disparities in telehealth usage, and limited economic opportunities in digitally excluded populations. Findings reveal that regions with weak digital infrastructure and low digital literacy consistently report lower educational performance, reduced health engagement, and limited employment prospects. Public policy, infrastructure investment, and digital training emerge as decisive factors that either mitigate or exacerbate these challenges. The discussion emphasizes the necessity of equitable digital policy design, community-based interventions, and collaborative global strategies to ensure inclusive digital development. Despite growing research on digital inequality, gaps remain in longitudinal analysis and intersectional perspectives. This review recommends future studies to adopt multidimensional frameworks to better inform policy and practice. In conclusion, addressing digital inequality is not only a technological necessity but also a social imperative. Bridging the divide is essential for creating a more just, inclusive, and resilient society in the digital era.

Abstract

This study explores the evolving role of digital activism in shaping public discourse and political mobilization through social media. It aims to assess how strategic digital tools such as hashtags, visual content, and storytelling facilitate collective identity and enhance civic engagement. Employing a narrative review methodology, the paper synthesizes empirical studies from multiple contexts including the Arab Spring, #BlackLivesMatter, and #EndSARS. Results reveal that social media enables real-time coordination, emotional resonance, and participatory communication that extend beyond traditional media boundaries. These campaigns are found to effectively generate pressure on policymakers and influence public opinion. However, systemic challenges persist. Studies indicate that algorithmic bias, digital surveillance, and censorship disproportionately affect activists, particularly in authoritarian regimes. Additionally, disparities in digital infrastructure and literacy contribute to uneven access and representation. The discussion highlights that while digital platforms serve as powerful tools, their impact is mediated by political, economic, and technological contexts. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for policy reforms that enhance digital inclusion, protect online freedoms, and ensure algorithmic accountability. Future research should address regional variations in digital mobilization and examine the interplay between online and offline activism. These insights contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of digital activism in a rapidly evolving communication landscape.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of interactive CSR communication, employee advocacy, and digital co-creation as strategic tools in managing brand reputation in the digital era. With increasing digital engagement from younger consumers and heightened brand vulnerability on social media, this research aims to understand how interactive communication practices can enhance brand trust and mitigate reputational crises. The study adopts a narrative review methodology, synthesizing recent literature on AI-enabled communication tools, sentiment analysis, employee-driven advocacy, and digital storytelling in crisis communication and CSR campaigns. The findings reveal that explicit and participatory CSR communication, supported by real-time feedback mechanisms and AI technologies, significantly strengthens brand authenticity and stakeholder trust. Moreover, organizational readiness in terms of culture, regulation, and technological infrastructure is found to be a key enabler in sustaining message coherence and credibility. Employee advocacy further amplifies brand identity when internal communication aligns with external narratives. The study emphasizes the need for holistic communication strategies that combine technological innovation with ethical oversight and stakeholder inclusion. As digital transformation reshapes corporate communication, proactive integration of sentiment analytics, influencer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration is essential. The insights provided here offer practical and theoretical guidance for designing resilient communication systems and call for future research into digital trust, narrative dynamics, and cross-cultural communication impacts.
