Abstract

The phenomenon of broken homes has been widely discussed in the current social media era along with the increasing public awareness of mental health. This study explores the lives of people who have gone through the difficult experience of a broken home. It focuses on those who listen to the podcast "Happy Broken Family" and are part of a Telegram group called "Broken Home Survivors." This research used a qualitative approach, with Alfred Schutz's phenomenological approach. Data collection methods include primary data through interviews and observations, as well as secondary data from books, journals, and documentation. The selection of informants was done using sampling, ensuring that participants had relevant knowledge on the topic. It was found that the broken home survivors felt that their success really depended on their own efforts. Many of them relate to the podcast's message about overcoming the struggles that come with having an intact family. They addressed their current situation with humor and gained positive insights from their experiences. The virtual community helped each other, providing support, but some participants mentioned missing a guiding figure to mediate their experiences. Ultimately, this study shows that people can find ways to come to terms with a broken home background and apply the positive lessons they have learned from the "Happy Broken Family" podcast and their supportive online community.

Abstract

Social media or online media is used by its users to communicate, interact, share, network, and learn digitally by utilizing the features available on social media. The purpose of this study is to understand the communication planning process, followers' responses, and the reasons why @neohistoria_id uses Twitter as a medium for digital history education. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach and uses Regina Luttrell's Circular Model of SOME. The technique for selecting informants is purposive sampling. The communication planning process carried out by @neohistoria_id involves several stages. The first stage is sharing, where the Twitter account @neohistoria_id participates in sharing historical content. The public who receive this content are connected with @neohistoria_id, so @neohistoria_id must build trust with the public to keep them reading their content. In the optimization stage, @neohistoria_id listens to and learns from the public discussions about their posts. Then, @neohistoria_id takes part in these discussions through replies or Twitter Spaces. In the management stage, @neohistoria_id conducts media monitoring to delve into current issues. Following this, @neohistoria_id must respond quickly to create real-time interaction with the public. In the engagement stage, @neohistoria_id understands how to build relationships with the public (influencer relations). The goal is to identify the target audience of @neohistoria_id, which includes students and professionals. This is important to find a similar audience and encourage positive changes in the image built by the Twitter account @neohistoria_id itself.

Abstract

Instagram is a social media used to interact with other users and offers various features provided by Instagram such as Direct Message, Like, and Comment. The phenomenon of the teaching and learning process in higher education is also inseparable from technological advances, both from curriculum development, academic systems to student activities. One of the utilization of technological advances is the dissemination of information about the campus world. The implementation of Uses and Gratification Theory in this study can be seen from individual active students who deliberately seek information and become followers of the @academic_csunibi Instagram account as a fulfillment of information needs. This study aims to determine the effect of using instsgram social media on the @academik_csunibi account on fulfilling the information needs of active students of Universitas Informatika and Bisnis Indonesia Academic Year 2019-2022. The research method used is a quantitative method with a verificative approach. The population in this study were active students of the University of Informatics and Business Indonesia in the 2019-2022 academic year with a sample size of 100 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that in the T test data from the results of the IBM SPSS 23 statistical data analysis obtained data of 8,364> 1654, it means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so this value indicates that there is an influence between the collaboration sub variable on the current need approach variable.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the objective of analyzing the representation of the meaning of kinship in the music video of the band Perunggu entitled "33x" through the lens of a qualitative approach to Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. Music videos can be utilized as a conduit for the dissemination of messages to the audience. The data collection techniques employed in this study are based on documentation studies, with the primary data sources being music videos. The data analysis techniques employed in this research include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.  The analysis leads to the conclusion that kinship can be obtained from simple things. This is demonstrated by several images of scenes captured by the researcher during the research process. The music video represents the meaning of family as a relationship that is not affected by the passage of time. It also represents the enduring bond between a father and son, as evidenced by the father's joy when talking with his son and the father's recollection of his son's childhood through the opening of a photo album.

Abstract

This study examines the framing of news coverage related to the increase in fuel prices (BBM) on two prominent Indonesian online media platforms, Kumparan.com and Kompas.com, during the period of September 3–7, 2022. Utilizing Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model, the research explores how these media outlets construct and present the issue of the BBM price hike through the four elements of framing: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and offering treatment recommendations. The research adopts a qualitative content analysis approach, systematically analyzing articles from both platforms to identify recurring themes and framing techniques. The study employs a purposive sampling method to select relevant news articles, ensuring that the content analyzed is directly related to the BBM price hike during the specified period. The findings reveal significant differences in how each media platform frames the issue. Kumparan.com primarily views the government’s decision to raise BBM prices as a source of public discontent, highlighting the negative impact on various societal groups and attributing the problem largely to government actions. In contrast, Kompas.com adopts a more balanced approach, acknowledging both the necessity of the government’s decision in light of rising global oil prices and the public's grievances. This platform frames the policy as a difficult but necessary step to maintain economic stability. The study concludes that media framing plays a crucial role in shaping public perception, with each outlet presenting the same event in ways that reflect their editorial stances and underlying ideologies. The research suggests that future studies could benefit from incorporating constructionist theories and critical discourse analysis to further understand the mechanisms of media framing and its impact on public discourse.

Abstract

This research departs from the social reality of the Kapuas community, which has cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity. In this context, multicultural communication is an important aspect of early childhood learning and social interaction. The effectiveness of multicultural communication in this study is defined as the extent to which cross-cultural interactions can enhance children's social, emotional, and cognitive development in a heterogeneous environment. This study aims to analyze the role of multicultural communication in shaping early childhood character by examining key indicators such as increased adaptability, empathy, and social interaction. The results show that children actively engaging in cross-cultural interactions have better adaptability in various social situations, show higher empathy towards peers from different cultural backgrounds, and have more effective communication skills. In addition, this study offers a new perspective in understanding the role of multicultural communication in early childhood development, especially in areas with high levels of cultural heterogeneity. Previous studies have focused more on early childhood education in general without highlighting how multicultural communication plays a role in children's interaction and learning from an early age. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of implementing multicultural communication in educational and family settings. Therefore, educators and parents are advised to create an environment that supports multicultural communication through joint play activities, cross-cultural discussions, and the use of diverse media as interactive learning tools. Thus, children can grow up in an inclusive environment and have strong social skills early on. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods and data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation. Multiculturalism plays an important role in improving the effectiveness of early childhood social and emotional skills. Early on, children exposed to cross-cultural interactions have better social adaptability and show higher empathy in interactions with peers from different cultural backgrounds. Multicultural communication's effectiveness was shown to positively impact early childhood social and emotional development in Kapuas district. This finding confirms the importance of implementing diversity-based communication strategies in early childhood education to improve children's social skills and readiness to face heterogeneous environments.
