Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh pemberian aditif pakan berbahan herbal terhadap kinerja produksi dan efisiensi biaya pada ayam pedaging di era tanpa penggunaan Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP). Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlakuan, yaitu P0 (pakan komersial tanpa aditif herbal), P1 (pakan + 1% jamu herbal), P2 (pakan + 2% jamu herbal), dan P3 (pakan + 3% jamu herbal), masing-masing dengan lima ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH), konversi pakan (FCR), indeks produksi, dan biaya produksi. Hasil penelitian dianalisis statistik deskriptif dengan menghitung data kemudian dijadikan data rata-rata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian aditif pakan herbal berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kinerja produksi ayam pedaging. Dosis 2% (P2) menghasilkan performa terbaik dengan rata-rata PBBH 61,61 g/ekor/hari, FCR 1,30, dan indeks produksi 401,6. Secara ekonomi, meskipun biaya pakan meningkat akibat penambahan bahan herbal, efisiensi produksi juga meningkat sehingga biaya per ekor menurun sekitar 7–8% dibanding kontrol. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa aditif pakan herbal dapat dijadikan alternatif yang efektif dan berkelanjutan untuk menggantikan AGP dalam usaha ayam pedaging modern

Abstract

Pemanfaatan daun lamtoro sebagai alternatif bahan pakan unggas belum banyak dilakukan karna kandungan antinutrisi pada daun lamtoro yang dapat mempengaruhi proses metabolisme. Oleh karna itu perlu dikombinasikan dengan jahe yang mengandung senyawa bioaktif yang dapat memperbaiki metabolisme dalam tubuh ternak. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, sehingga terdapat 20 unit percobaan. Setiap unit berisi 5 ekor ayam. Perlakuan meliputi P0 = Ransum tanpa tepung daun lamtoro dan tepung jahe, P1= Ransum mengandung 2% tepung daun lamtoro + 0,5% tepung jahe, P2 = Ransum mengandung 4% tepung daun lamtoro +1% tepung jahe, P3 = Ransum mengandung 6% tepung daun lamtoro + 1,5% tepung jahe. Variabel yang diteliti meliputi konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan dan konversi pakan. Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan tepung daun lamtoro dan tepung jahe berpengaruh  nyata (P<0,05) terhadap pertambahan bobot badan, tetapi berpengaruh tidak nyata (P>0,05) terhadap konsumsi pakan, dan konversi pakan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, perlakuan P3 menghasilkan pertambahan bobot badan sebesar 78,40 (g/ekor/hari, dan angka konversi pakan terbaik 1,52. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan tepung daun lamtoro 6% + tepung jahe 1,5% dalam ransum dapat meningkatkan pertambahan bobot badan dan menurunkan angka konversi pakan ayam broiler tanpa mempengaruhi konsumsi pakan.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy level of Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) body weight estimation using the Lambourne, Schrool, Djagra, and Winter formulas, and to develop a multiple linear regression model as an alternative method for estimating Bali cattle body weight. The sample consisted of 23 female Bali cattle aged 1–1.5 years based on recording data, selected using a purposive sampling method. The method involved collecting data on chest girth, body length, and actual body weight measured using a weighing scale. The data were analyzed descriptively to obtain the mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, estimated body weight calculation results, and percentage bias of the Lambourne, Schrool, Djagra, and Winter formulas, as well as multiple linear regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 22. The average body weight measured using the scale was 152.48 kg, while the estimated body weights were 157.26 kg using the Lambourne formula with a bias of 3.14%, 233.89 kg using the Schrool formula with a bias of 53.39%, 154.34 kg using the Djagra formula with a bias of 1.18%, and 157.62 kg using the Winter formula with a bias of 3.37%. It was concluded that the Djagra formula had the highest level of accuracy, and the regression equation BW = -257.29 + 2.18(CG) + 1.25(BL) with a coefficient of determination of 0.96 can be used as a formula for estimating Bali cattle body weight.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the frequency of qualitative phenotypic traits and estimate the introgression value in a population of female Sikumbang Jonti ducks reared in smallholder farms in Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia. A total of 44 sexually mature female Sikumbang Jonti ducks were selected using a purposive sampling method. The observed qualitative phenotypic traits included the color and shape of the bill, as well as the coloration of the head, neck, body, wings, thighs, tail, shank, and several other morphological characteristics. Data were analyzed descriptively using phenotypic frequency percentages, while the introgression value was estimated by comparing the phenotypic frequencies of the observed population with those of the original and donor populations. The results showed that several phenotypic traits exhibited dominant frequencies, including flat bill shape, brown eye color, absence of a neck ring, and horizontal body posture, each reaching 100%. Black bill color showed a frequency of 86.36%, while white head and neck coloration reached 90.91% and 88.64%, respectively. Phenotypic variation was observed in several plumage color traits, particularly the brown-white body coloration, which accounted for 59.09% of the population, indicating considerable phenotypic diversity within the population. The introgression value in the Sikumbang Jonti duck population was estimated at 16.90%, with an estimated phenotypic purity level of 83.10%. The study indicates the presence of phenotypic variation that may reflect possible introgression from introduced duck breeds, although molecular studies are required for confirmation.

Abstract

Kaligesing Etawa Crossbred (PE) goats are local livestock with important value as genetic resources, contest animals, and potential breeding stock. This study aimed to describe the phenotypic characteristics and morphological scores of Kaligesing PE goats based on contest class and sex. The research was conducted in August 2025 in Mertak Tombok Village, Praya District, Central Lombok Regency, using a quantitative descriptive method with a field survey approach. The samples consisted of 34 male goats and 16 female goats with complete scoring data. The observed variables included head, ears, neck/dewlap, horns, body posture, hair coat, feet and legs, rewos, reproductive organs or mammary gland, tail, coat color pattern, overall body conformation harmony, and total score. Data were analyzed descriptively, while comparisons of total morphological scores were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the total morphological scores of male goats ranged from 74.1 to 83.2, with the highest score observed in Class A. Meanwhile, the total scores of female goats ranged from 71.0 to 75.0, with the highest score observed in Class B. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences in total morphological scores among male classes, among female classes, or between male and female goats. Therefore, the observed variation represents descriptive morphological variation, and contest scoring can be used as a descriptive tool to evaluate the phenotypic quality of Kaligesing PE goats.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the environmental implications of semi-intensive swamp buffalo (Bubalus Bubalis) farming in Sungai Baung Village, Rawas Ulu District, North Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The research was conducted from November 2024 to January 2025 using a survey-based descriptive approach. A census method was employed, involving all 30 swamp buffalo farmers operating in the study area. Data were gathered through field observations, structured interviews, questionnaires, and literature review, and subsequently analyzed using descriptive techniques. The findings revealed that 73.3% of respondents practiced a semi-intensive production system. Livestock housing was generally situated 10–20 m from residential areas, while 60.0% of farmers accumulated manure around barns without further treatment and only 40.0% utilized manure as organic fertilizer. These management practices suggest potential environmental concerns associated with waste accumulation, odor generation, and the possible contamination of nearby soil and water resources. Furthermore, the close proximity of livestock housing to residential settlements may increase the likelihood of community exposure to environmental pollutants generated by farming activities. The study concludes that swamp buffalo production in Sungai Baung Village is predominantly managed under a semi-intensive system, with the main environmental management issues related to housing location and limited manure utilization. Therefore, improvements in manure management and housing practices are needed to enhance the environmental sustainability of swamp buffalo farming in the study area.

Abstract

The use of antibiotics in broiler production may result in residue accumulation in edible tissues when withdrawal periods are not properly observed. This study aimed to detect residues of four antibiotic classes, namely tetracyclines, macrolides, aminoglycosides, and β-lactams, in broiler chicken meat marketed in Purbolinggo District, East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia. Samples were collected using purposive sampling from five broiler meat vendors at the traditional market of Purbolinggo District. Approximately 500 g of breast meat was obtained from each vendor, resulting in a total of five samples. Antibiotic residues were screened using a laboratory-based bioassay method by observing inhibition zone formation around paper discs containing meat extracts. The presence or absence of inhibition zones was used as an indicator of antibiotic residues. No residues of tetracyclines, macrolides, aminoglycosides, or β-lactams were detected in any of the analyzed samples. These findings indicate that residue levels, if present, were below the detection limit of the screening method employed. The absence of detectable residues may suggest compliance with recommended antibiotic use practices and withdrawal periods; however, these factors were not directly evaluated in this study. Further investigations involving larger sample sizes and quantitative analytical methods are recommended to provide a more comprehensive assessment of antibiotic residue occurrence in broiler meat.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the potential for sustainable beef cattle development based on regional potential in Musi Rawas Regency. The research employed a descriptive-analytical quantitative method using the approaches of Location Quotient (LQ), land carrying capacity analysis, capacity for increasing ruminant livestock population (KPPTR), and Logical Framework Approach (LFA). The data used in this study were secondary data obtained from relevant institutions. The results showed that several districts in Musi Rawas Regency were classified as base areas for beef cattle development with LQ values > 1, namely Megang Sakti, Tugumulyo, STL Ulu Terawas, Muara Beliti, and Sumberharta Districts. The potential production of forage feed and agricultural waste in Musi Rawas Regency reached 3,378,148 tons of dry matter/year with a livestock population increase capacity of 1,468,760 animal units (AU). Megang Sakti District had the highest development capacity of 309,061 AU, making it the most potential area for beef cattle development. Sustainable beef cattle development can be achieved through optimizing local resource utilization, strengthening farmer institutions, improving human resource quality, integrating crop and livestock farming systems, and enhancing livestock marketing systems. Based on the research findings, Musi Rawas Regency has significant potential for sustainable beef cattle development based on regional potential.

Abstract

The increasing volume of collagen and gelatin rich by-product waste from the livestock and fishery industries triggers environmental pollution if not managed optimally. This article aims to review the potential utilization of collagen and gelatin hydrolysates from animal waste as functional feed ingredients that support the sustainability of the livestock industry. The review was conducted by searching and analyzing various research findings on animal waste sources, methods of producing bioactive peptides, biological activities, and their effectiveness in animal feed. The application of bioactive peptides in feed has been shown to be able to improve growth performance, feed conversion efficiency, gastrointestinal health, carcass quality, and the resistance of livestock to oxidative stress and disease. In addition to increasing livestock productivity, the utilization of animal waste as a source of bioactive peptides also supports the concept of a circular economy and sustainable waste management. However, its application still faces technical and biological challenges, such as the risk of zoonotic diseases, the halal status of raw materials, quality variability, and the vulnerability of peptides to degradation at high temperatures during feed manufacturing processes such as pelletization. As a solution, the utilization of this waste requires standardization of the extraction process, encapsulation technology to maintain peptide stability, and the implementation of a strict quality assurance system. This innovative approach not only provides a competitively valued alternative protein source but also supports the implementation of circular economy principles and zero-residue waste management.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the origin of imported Friesian Holstein cows (New Zealand and Australia) on milk yield, milk fat percentage, and milk protein percentage. The study was conducted at the Breeding Center for Superior Livestock and Forage Crops (BPTU-HPT) Baturraden, Banyumas, Indonesia. A total of 100 Friesian Holstein cows were used, consisting of 19 cows imported from New Zealand and 81 cows imported from Australia. Secondary data on milk yield, milk fat percentage, and milk protein percentage were obtained from farm records. Milk yield was standardized to a 305 day mature equivalent (ME) basis. Data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the origin of imported Friesian Holstein cows significantly affected (P<0.05) milk yield, milk fat percentage, and milk protein percentage. Friesian Holstein cows imported from New Zealand produced 4,450 L ± 1,746 L of milk, with milk fat and protein percentages of 3.90%± 0.59% and 2.94% ± 0.06%, respectively. In contrast, cows imported from Australia produced 5,583 L ± 1,775 L of milk, with milk fat and protein percentages of 4.70% ± 0.72% and 3.23±0.40%, respectively. The overall averages for milk yield, milk fat percentage, and milk protein percentage were 5,016 L± 1,760 L, 4.30%±0.65%, and 3.08%±0.23%, respectively. In conclusion, Friesian Holstein cows imported from Australia exhibited greater milk yield and higher milk fat and protein percentages than those imported from New Zealand under the management conditions of BPTU-HPT Baturraden, Banyumas.
