Abstract

This study aims to investigate how students at SDN 10 Tiumang can improve their Indonesian language skills through the use of digital media. The research employed a qualitative method with data collected through documentation, interviews, and observations. The findings indicate that the integration of digital media in Indonesian language learning enhances students’ enthusiasm and develops language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Moreover, the increase in students’ learning motivation was found to be significantly correlated with the use of digital media. The integration of such media provides concrete contributions to language skill development, including speaking through digital presentations and online discussions, listening through audio-visual materials, reading through interactive digital texts, and writing through word-processing applications and text-sharing platforms. These findings are supported by previous studies that highlight the great potential of digital media in driving innovation in Indonesian language education. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of well-planned and integrated digital-based learning strategies to optimize Indonesian language mastery at the elementary school level. By utilizing digital media effectively, students are expected to build a strong language foundation that not only supports their future studies but also prepares them to face communication challenges in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the psychological dynamics of the main character in the short story Kucing Setan yang Merasakan Cinta by Cicilia Oday through the lens of literary psychology using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The short story stands out by presenting a cat character as a symbolic figure undergoing an inner transformation influenced by its social environment. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with reading and note-taking techniques as well as literature review, this research analyzes the character's personality structure based on Freud's three main components: id, ego, and superego. The results show that the cat undergoes complex psychological conflicts, where instinctual drives (id) initially dominate its behavior filled with anger and vengeance. However, as the story progresses, the development of the ego enables the character to mediate between these instinctual urges and the social norms introduced by the environment. The superego emerges as a moral compass when the character begins to experience affection and comprehend the value of sacrifice. This transformation demonstrates that even symbolic non-human characters possess psychological structures worth exploring. This study is expected to contribute to Indonesian literary criticism by expanding the analytical space for symbolic characters in short stories.

Abstract

Jumbo has become the highest-grossing film in Indonesian history. Although it is packaged as a children's animated film, Jumbo contains elements of mysticism. This study aims to analyze and describe the existence of mysticism in the animated film Jumbo produced by Visinema. The research adopts a literary anthropology approach. The primary data source is the animated film Jumbo. Data were collected using a documentation technique, which involved carefully watching the film and taking detailed notes on indicators related to the presence of mysticism. Data validity was ensured through source and theoretical triangulation. The data analysis was conducted through the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. Based on this process, the study found that Jumbo contains elements of mysticism, which manifest in material, spiritual, and moral forms. Each mystical element is evident in the film's scenes. This indicates that mystical content can be integrated into various creative genres, even those intended for children or that portray children's worlds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and dynamics of power relations in Tere Liye’s novel Janji through Michel Foucault’s theory of discourse and power. The research employs a qualitative method with a Foucauldian discourse analysis approach to examine how power operates, spreads, and produces truth within the novel’s social context. The data consist of textual excerpts that illustrate elements of surveillance, discipline, and resistance. The findings reveal that power in Janji is not monolithic or merely repressive but rather productive and diffused across three major domains: mental control through normalization and surveillance, bodily discipline through social and institutional mechanisms, and social domination maintained through economic and symbolic power. On the other hand, acts of resistance emerge as counter-discourses performed by the main character, demonstrating that power always allows space for opposition and social transformation. The study concludes that Janji reflects the complexity of power relations that not only constrain but also shape individual identity, behavior, and awareness within social networks, emphasizing the importance of critical consciousness toward the mechanisms of power embedded in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the problems of language development among third-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Lima Puluh Kota. The research focuses on identifying the factors that influence children’s language abilities, including family environment, school context, and psychological aspects. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving teachers and students. The data were analyzed through thematic reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that children’s language difficulties are influenced by limited verbal stimulation at home, low social interaction at school, and the lack of varied learning media. Conversely, teacher support and a communicative learning environment help students overcome these difficulties. This study highlights the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents in creating a literacy-friendly environment that fosters language development among elementary school children.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie’s novel Mari Pergi Lebih Jauh challenges stable meanings through Jacques Derrida’s deconstructive approach. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with textual analysis based on the principles of deconstruction, focusing on how the novel dismantles binary oppositions and reveals the absence of fixed meaning. The primary data consist of textual excerpts that reflect the play of signs, the tension between reality and imagination, and narrative contradictions that lead to the deconstruction of social and ideological structures. The findings show that the novel consistently deconstructs common views about children, powerlessness, and stereotypes surrounding parent–child relationships. Through the portrayal of complex characters, the narrative exposes the instability of meaning often overlooked by society, inviting readers to respond to the text more openly. Ziggy’s non-linear storytelling and unconventional language avoid the pursuit of a single meaning and instead open space for multiple interpretations. Ultimately, the novel encourages readers to perceive the world through a more fluid and dynamic perspective, moving away from rigid dualisms and challenging established understandings of concepts such as powerlessness, love, and social relationships.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology in Indonesia has fostered the growing use of digital platforms in language learning, particularly YouTube as a contextual and easily accessible audiovisual medium. This study aims to identify and analyze the types of speech acts, based on Searle's classification, in the "Get to Know" video series from the English Academy on the Ruangguru YouTube channel, and to examine their functions in supporting the effectiveness of digital learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyzed two purposively selected videos by transcribing instructors' utterances in full and systematically classifying them into representatives, directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives. The findings reveal that representative speech acts dominate the videos (55 occurrences), functioning primarily to convey factual information and conceptual explanations. Directive speech acts (17 occurrences) provide instruction and motivation, whereas expressive speech acts (13 occurrences) build emotional rapport with the audience. Commissive and declarative speech acts were not identified. These findings indicate that the strategic use of speech acts enhances instructional communication, learner engagement, and motivation in video-based language learning. This study contributes to digital pragmatics by demonstrating how informative, persuasive, and expressive speech acts can be optimized in YouTube-based English language learning in Indonesia, and it offers practical implications for the design of digital educational content.

Abstract

Learning recount texts at the junior high school level requires students to reconstruct events in a factual and chronological manner. However, in practice, many students still experience difficulties in organizing event sequences, distinguishing facts from opinions, and maintaining textual coherence. This study aims to describe the implementation of investigative role playing as a learning medium in recount text instruction, students’ responses and learning motivation, and students’ understanding of recount texts. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving a Bahasa Indonesia teacher and ninth-grade students of SMP Katolik Kuala Dua as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results show that investigative role playing was implemented through case investigation activities, code-solving tasks, group discussions, and the construction of recount texts in a chronological order. Students’ responses and learning motivation during the learning process were generally positive, indicated by active participation, curiosity, and collaborative work. In addition, students’ understanding of recount texts was reflected in their ability to construct complete text structures and organize events coherently, although some difficulties in linguistic aspects were still found. This study suggests that investigative role playing can be used as an alternative creative learning strategy in recount text instruction.

Abstract

Films often represent masculinity as a social construction shaped and legitimized by state power. This study examines how the state produces and regulates various forms of masculinity in the film Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas. Rather than portraying masculinity as a single and stable identity, the film challenges state-supported hegemonic masculinity by presenting masculine identities as diverse, fluid, and continuously negotiated within particular socio-political contexts. This research employs a multimodal discourse analysis approach to explore the relationship between state authority, gender ideology, and cinematic representation. The findings indicate that the state reinforces hegemonic masculinity through regulatory practices that reproduce patriarchal values and maintain social hierarchies. At the same time, the film opens spaces of resistance, especially for heterosexual men who do not fully conform to dominant masculine norms, enabling them to renegotiate their social position within the masculine order. Although the film was produced during the Reformasi era while narratively set in the Orde Baru period, it reflects a transitional moment in which masculinity is increasingly understood as contested and unstable. The boundaries of masculinity become more flexible, allowing the emergence of new forms of gender negotiation. This study demonstrates that cinema can critically interrogate state-constructed models of masculinity while offering alternative interpretations of masculine identity in post–Orde Baru Indonesian film.

Abstract

The phenomenon of corruption normalization in the digital era has triggered collective apathy and eroded human integrity amid corrupt bureaucratic practices, as portrayed by Ahmad Tohari in the novel Orang-Orang Proyek. This study aims to analyze how the novel reactualizes the prophetic function of literature in confronting bureaucratic pathology by employing the Prophetic Literature paradigm proposed by Kuntowijoyo. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a hermeneutic approach and content analysis techniques, this research examines the narrative of the character Kabul based on the three pillars of prophetic values: humanization, liberation, and transcendence. The findings reveal that the character Kabul represents a prophetic subject who successfully integrates professional expertise with moral-religious commitment. The aspect of humanization is reflected in Kabul’s efforts to protect the dignity of ordinary people from the dehumanizing practices within development projects. The aspect of liberation is manifested in his resistance to the “culture of tolerance” toward corruption and political pressure within the bureaucracy. Meanwhile, the aspect of transcendence appears in Kabul’s integrity, which frames his work as a spiritual mandate that transcends material interests. Therefore, this study affirms that the novel Orang-Orang Proyek functions not only as a representation of social reality but also as an instrument of social transformation and a medium of cultural dakwah that offers ethical solutions to the crisis of humanity and bureaucratic pathology in Indonesia.
