Abstract

Reading is not an easy task to do. Reading is a thinking process. The act of recognizing words requires the interpretation of graphic symbols. This study aims to determine the implementation and students’ obstacles to using the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy to improve students' reading comprehension skills through narrative text. This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental class with one group pretest-posttest design. This research was conducted in class VIII SMP Negeri 8 Makassar which involved 35 students as the research sample. The researcher used reading tests and questionnaires as instruments for data collection. The results showed that the use of the QAR strategy could improve students' reading comprehension skills significantly. The students’ average score on the pre-test was 39.14 After applying the QAR strategy, the students’ average score on the post-test increased to 69.14. There was an improvement of 57% from the pre-test to the post-test. The researcher concluded that the use of a Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy could improve the students’ activeness in teaching learning process.

Abstract

A teacher conveys various learning materials, of course, still referring to the learning resources used by the school. Learning resources that can be used in the process of learning activities at school are very varied, one of which is textbooks. This study aims to describe the analysis of the suitability of the material with the curriculum by focusing on the competencies in the curriculum of Indonesian Language subjects. Therefore, the researcher will analyze the Indonesian Language textbook published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in the latest revised edition in 2017 for high school class X. The design used in this study is a qualitative descriptive research design. In the application of this research design, the author collects data on the description of learning materials in the Indonesian Language textbook for class X, processes, and then analyzes the data on the suitability of material aspects with the curriculum. To test the data that has been analyzed, the researcher conducted a data triangulation examination and source triangulation. The results of the study show that the description of the material of each chapter has basically presented completely based on the indicators that must be achieved. The feasibility of describing the content of the material in the Indonesian Language book for class X from themes 1-8 has met the criteria for completeness of the content, namely the material described to support the achievement of core competencies (KI) and basic competencies (KD). The presentation of the material in this book refers to the revised 2013 curriculum, which uses texts in the context of developing student competencies.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effectiveness of using pinball learning media in improving the learning outcomes of class IX students at SMPN 1 Dolopo Madiun, explaining how pinball learning media can influence students' motivation and interest in learning, determining the extent to which pinball learning media can be integrated into the learning process to improve the quality of teaching. and understanding of the material, and providing recommendations for the use of interactive learning media to support improving student learning outcomes. The results showed that the student's average score in writing descriptive text was 78 in cycle 1. After using pinball media in cycle 2, the student's average score increased to 84. In cycle 3, by evaluating and using pinball media again, the average student in writing descriptive text reaches 90. Thus, the use of pinball learning media can significantly improve student learning outcomes, especially in writing descriptive text. Based on observations and evaluations carried out during the research, there was an increase in student participation and motivation in the learning process. Students are more enthusiastic and active in understanding the lesson material presented through pinball learning media. Apart from that, the results of the learning evaluation show an increase in the average student score after implementing this media. These findings indicate that pinball learning media is effective in creating a pleasant learning atmosphere and encouraging students to better understand the subject matter.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the improvement of personal letter-writing skills by applying the CRT (Culturally Responsive Teaching) approach to students of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Bogor. This study is a classroom action research with subjects of Class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Bogor which was carried out in two cycles. Data collection techniques were in the form of observation, assessment of personal letter-writing skills, and photo and video documentation. Data analysis techniques used qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the study showed that the average value of all aspects observed in writing personal letters of students in cycle 1, students who had not completed were 20 people with a percentage of 64.51% and students who had completed were only 11 people with a rate of 35.48%. Furthermore, in cycle 2 there was an increase, namely 25 students entered the complete category with a percentage of 81% and students in the uncompleted category were 6 people with a rate of 19%. Thus, the CRT approach succeeded in improving the personal letter-writing skills of class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Bogor.

Abstract

This journal discusses the analysis of power relations in the novel Anjing Mengeong, Kucing Menggonggong by Eka Kurniawan using Michael Foucault's perspective. The research method used in this analysis is the qualitative description method. This method is a research process that produces descriptive data in the form of words rather than numbers. In the analysis of the novel Anjing Mengeong, Kucing Menggonggong by Eka Kurniawan, a descriptive method was used. This research uses analytical techniques which aim to find the data contained in the novel to make data collection and classification easier. The results of the analysis of the novel Dog Meowing, Cats Menggonggong by Eka Kurniawan in this analysis can be found several evidences of relationships that exist in this literary work. In the novel, it is described how the father's power is reflected not only in harsh actions, but also in the form of words spoken to control the child's body. Apart from that, it was also found that there were authorities who were able to cause feelings of humiliation in the child. In Foucault's perspective, power can also appear as a form of control that is internalized by individuals.

Abstract

This study explores cultural identity in the novel Lusifer Lusifer by Venerdi Handoyo using Jean Francois Lyotard postmodernism approach. Concentrating on the representation of cultural identity in the form of religion, identity deception and masking, cultural adoption, and forms of irony. concentrating on irony in the text, religious representation, identity deception, and cultural adoption. The novel Lusifer Lusifer by Venerdi Handoyo shows how elements of Christian culture influence the daily lives of its characters through family relationships, religious rituals, and spiritual symbols. In this novel, postmodernism is depicted through the perspective that modernism does not meet the needs of humans as a whole and that religion is part of a collective identity, not just a personal belief. The results show that it offers a reflection on the relationship between religion, culture, and identity and criticizes the norms of modern society. The symbols used and adapted by the characters in this work form a cultural identity, depicting the conflict between the influence of modern culture and religious beliefs.

Abstract

The lyrics of “Bertaut” by Nadin Amizah feature various stylistic devices that enhance the emotional message and deep meaning of the work.This study aims to analyze the figurative language used in the lyrics of Bertaut, a song by Nadin Amizah. As a meaningful piece of musical art, the song contains various linguistic elements that effectively convey deep emotions to its listeners. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis methods to identify and interpret the figurative language within the lyrics. The findings reveal that Nadin Amizah utilizes a range of figurative language, including personification, metaphor, hyperbole, and repetition, to enhance the emotional tone and meaning of the lyrics. These stylistic elements not only beautify the lyrics but also depict the emotional bond between the writer and her mother, which serves as the central theme of the song. This study provides insights into how figurative language can be effectively utilized in musical works to convey messages and build emotional connections with listeners.

Abstract

This study analyzes the framing in the news reporting of a sexual harassment case committed by Agus Buntung, a person with a disability. This is done using a descriptive qualitative methodology. The focus of this study is to explain the phenomenon of how the media presents the perpetrators, victims, and related institutions in the development process of this case. Using the Miles and Huberman model, data were collected and analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the analysis show that the media uses themes that develop along with the increasing number of victims, depicting the perpetrators as smart and manipulative people even though they have physical limitations. In addition, the irony in the news is reinforced by calling the perpetrator's name with the term "Buntung", which increases public attention to the case. In the news, words such as "increasing victims" and "emotional manipulation" indicate the media's efforts to influence readers' emotions and emphasize the resolution of the case. This study shows how media framing can influence public perceptions of people with disabilities. It also shows how important legal protection and justice are for victims.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find the suitability of the material regarding the Smart Healthy Indonesian Language and Literature Class XII textbook in the Independent Curriculum. Specifically, this study aims to describe and analyze the aspects of (1) the conformity of materials with learning outcomes in the Independent Curriculum; (2) integration of pancasila Student Profile Values; and (3) accuracy of the material. The research methods used are qualitative descriptive methods and data collection techniques with documentation studies collected through analysis of textbook content, which includes themes and materials. The collected data is analyzed by reducing information based on curriculum themes and indicators. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that this book is in accordance with the standards of the Independent Curriculum, supports the development of literacy, critical thinking skills, creativity, and character of students, as well as comprehensively integrates the values of the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

Reading interest is a major factor in improving literacy, which plays an important role in students' reading comprehension. However, the low interest in reading in Indonesia is a major challenge that impacts on the quality of human resources and the development of education. This study aims to analyze the reading interest of SD Negeri 01 Pauh Sangik students and its impact on their reading comprehension. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach, which involves observation, interviews and data analysis to understand the factors that influence students' reading interest. The results showed that students' reading interest is still relatively low, with a tendency to decrease from year to year. Students with high reading interest show better comprehension of the text, while students with low reading interest have difficulty in capturing the content of the text thoroughly. Some of the factors that contribute to low reading interest include internal factors, such as lack of personal motivation, as well as external factors, such as lack of parental support, lack of access to interesting books, and less interactive teaching methods. Therefore, strategies that involve schools, teachers and families in improving reading culture are needed, such as providing interesting reading materials, organizing literacy programs and implementing more innovative and interactive learning methods. Thus, this study is expected to be a reference in improving students' interest in reading from an early age in order to build strong and sustainable literacy in the future.
