Abstract

Liver damage can occur due to infection, viruses, drug use, and the environment. Paracetamol is a drug that has analgesic and antipyretic effects, but on the other hand the use of paracetamol in excessive doses (15/day) can cause liver damage. This can occur because the process of paracetamol metabolism in the liver forms a reactive metabolite known as N-acetyl-pbenzoquinonemine (NAPQI). The hepatoprotective mechanism can be seen from the ability of Ichnocarpus frutescens to ward off free radicals formed from the process of lipid oxidation due to the reactive metabolite of paracetamol, namely NAPQI. The method used is a literature review which is a systematic, explicit and reproducible method for carrying out identification, evaluation and synthesis of research works and ideas that have been produced by researchers and practitioners. The data base used is National and International Journal Websites such as Google Scholar.

Abstract

Infection is one of the diseases that can be transmitted to humans which until now still has to be seriously resolved. Staphylococcus aureus infection is a problem that is of great concern due to the increase in bacterial resistance to various antibiotics. With the widespread resistance of bacteria to existing drugs, further encouragement must be carried out on the importance of efforts to create new alternatives by administering infectious disease prevention drugs using raw materials from nature. The research method uses secondary data taken from literature studies, which are analyzed from data related to the effectiveness of medical plants. Data collection techniques in this research are in the form of reviews from scientific journals, published national and international journals. The results obtained from several research literatures that are effective against the growth of staphylococcus aureus bacteria are Moringa leaves. Where at low concentrations, Moringa leaves provide a large diameter of the inhibition area for bacterial growth and if the given concentration is increased, the diameter of the area of bacterial inhibition produced will be even greater. This is also supported by several previous studies that have been carried out by many researchers that Moringa leaves have antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and Moringa leaves contain several secondary metabolite compounds that actively inhibit bacterial growth, namely flavonoids, saponins and tannins.

Abstract

One of the original Indonesian plants that has medicinal properties is Dewandaru (Eugenia uniflora Linn.). Dewandaru shows cytotoxic activity against cancer cells so it has the potential to be used as a drug preparation. The potential compound from the leaves of Dewandaru is Curzerene. This research was conducted to identify the interaction between the compounds of dewadaru leaves and PI3K receptors in prostate cancer. This study uses a computational method known as molecular docking. Bond energies, visualization of bonds, and types of bonds between compounds and receptors were observed. The PI3K receptor has fulfilled the method validation test requirements. The results showed that compounds from the dewadaru plant could inhibit one target protein from prostate cancer which was expressed with the lowest ∆Gbinding value, namely Curzerene compound (-7.65 kcal/mol) in PI3K protein. The interaction between Curzerene compounds has a lower binding energy value when compared to the original ligands at the PI3K receptor. Thus, it can be concluded that the Curzerene compound in the dewadaru plant used in the study has a good interaction with the PI3K receptor in prostate cancer. This compound has the potential to be developed as an anticancer drug. It is necessary to carry out in vivo testing and modification of the structure of the compound so that it can be used as an effective anticancer therapy in prostate cancer. Abstract

The white turmeric plant (Curcuma zedoaria) is a species from the Zingiberaceae family which is very important in traditional medicine and the medicinal industry. Apart from being used as a food or beverage ingredient, white turmeric is also used as a traditional medicine, such as stomach ache medicine, stomach booster, fever reducer and can treat skin diseases. This study aims to determine the effect of the concentration of polyvinyl pyrrolidone binder and starch 1500 disintegrating agent on the physical properties of tablets and to obtain a white turmeric rhizome ethanol extract tablet formula which has the best physical quality test. The method used in the manufacture of tablets is the wet granulation method, because this method can improve flow properties and increase compressibility. The results of this study on the physical quality testing of FI and FIII tablets have fulfilled the physical quality test requirements for tablets, but FII has not fulfilled the physical quality test requirements for tablet preparations because FII does not meet the disintegration time test requirements, this is influenced by the concentration of polyvinyl pyrrolidone binder (PVP) was higher than Starch 1500 disintegrant. In this study, FIII had the best physical quality test, where FIII was a physical quality test and had the fastest tablet disintegration time, which was 10 minutes. This is influenced by the higher concentration of Starch 1500 disintegrant, which is 8% compared to the polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) binder, which is 5%.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion. Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.) contains flavonoids which act as free radical scavengers and reduce oxidative stress. This study aims to prove that the administration of ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit at doses of 200 mg/KgBW and 400 mg/KgB can reduce blood glucose levels and repair damage to pancreatic β cells in alloxan-induced male white mice (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain diabetes mellitus. This study used 32 mice aged 2-3 months weighing 25 grams intraperitoneally induced by alloxan (0.5 ml/kg). Mice were divided into four treatment groups, namely K- (alloxan), K+ (glibenclamide), P1 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 200 mg/kgBB), P2 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kgBB) Quantitative data by calculating blood glucose levels and the number of pancreatic β cells were analyzed using Paired T-Test. P2 is the dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kg BW. In the repair of pancreatic β cells it was stated that the average damage to pancreatic β cells at a dose of 200 mg/KgBB was 67.5 and at a dose of 400 mg/KgBW was 89.1. This study proves that the ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit is able to lower blood glucose and inhibit the rate of damage to pancreatic β cells in mice with diabetes mellitus.
