Abstract

The growth of social media has led to the emergence of a number of new political communication media, such as the use of digital memes to denigrate and criticize political figures and state officials. The purpose of this study is to analyze how feminization in digital political memes perpetuates patriarchal institutions through gender-based symbolic violence and is used as a tactic to delegitimize masculine political actors. This study uses a descriptive qualitative methodology that combines representational analysis and visual discourse analysis. Purposeful sampling was used to select 13 political memes that met the research requirements from memes circulating on TikTok and Instagram between 2020 and 2025. The findings show how feminization practices in digital political memes are created by visually manipulating the bodies of male politicians with feminine characteristics including dresses, hijabs, makeup, mukena (prayer attire), and specific body positions. These depictions act as symbolic tactics to challenge the legitimacy of leadership associated with masculinity, while also being humorous or politically satirical. Furthermore, the widespread use of memes on social media suggests that symbolic violence, which normalizes gender stereotypes and upholds patriarchal power relations in digital political culture, is being reproduced online.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of work-life balance from an Islamic perspective through an analysis of Qur’anic exegesis and Hadith that discuss the balance between worldly life and the hereafter. The research employs a library research method by examining relevant verses of the Qur’an and Hadith related to work, worship, and social responsibility through classical and contemporary tafsir and Hadith literature. The findings indicate that Islam views balance in life as an essential principle, in which work is considered a form of worship as long as it is carried out responsibly and does not neglect spiritual and social obligations. The balance between worldly and spiritual life is reflected in the principle of moderation (wasathiyah), which guides Muslims to live their lives in a proportional manner. In conclusion, the concept of work-life balance in Islam is grounded in the teachings of balance between worldly life and the hereafter as found in the Qur’an and Hadith.

Abstract

The practice of female genital mutilation is still found in various regions of Indonesia and is often viewed as part of cultural traditions or religious practices. However, this practice has also sparked debate because it is considered to have no medical benefits and to potentially endanger women’s health and bodily autonomy. This study aims to analyze the ambiguity of state regulations regarding the practice of female genital mutilation in Indonesia through a biopolitical perspective. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach, drawing from academic journals, books, and government policy documents. The results indicate that state policies regarding female circumcision exhibit inconsistent regulatory dynamics, marked by the implementation of medical guidelines through a Ministry of Health regulation in 2010, which was subsequently revoked in 2014. This situation highlights the state’s ambiguous position in balancing the protection of women’s health with the pressures of cultural and religious norms within society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of “men do not talk” through the perspective of hegemonic masculinity theory and to explain how masculinity norms influence men’s emotional expression and help-seeking behavior. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. The research instrument consists of scientific documents including journal articles and academic books related to masculinity and men’s mental health. Data were collected through academic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. Data analysis was conducted using thematic meta-synthesis to identify and interpret the main themes found in the literature. The findings indicate that men’s emotional silence is closely related to masculinity norms emphasizing strength and emotional control. These norms often lead men to suppress emotional expression and avoid seeking professional help. However, recent studies also show the emergence of more inclusive forms of masculinity that encourage emotional openness and help-seeking.

Abstract

Employee performance is a key element in realizing organizational goals and optimizing public services. The Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Agency (BKPSDM) of Medan City, as a government agency responsible for managing civil servants (ASN), needs to continuously improve employee performance, particularly in the face of bureaucratic reform challenges. This study aims to analyze the effect of soft skills, hard skills, and compliance on employee performance at BKPSDM Medan City, with employee self-awareness as an intervening variable. This research is associative in nature with a quantitative approach. Primary data were collected through questionnaires. The analytical method applied was descriptive statistical analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. The research population comprised all ASN employees working in 5 divisions at BKPSDM Medan City, totaling 72 employees, with a census (total sampling) technique. Results indicate that hard skills have a positive and significant direct effect on both self-awareness and employee performance. Compliance also positively and significantly affects both self-awareness and employee performance. Self-awareness has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. However, soft skills show a positive but non-significant effect on both self-awareness and employee performance. In terms of mediation, self-awareness significantly mediates the effect of hard skills and compliance on employee performance, but does not significantly mediate the effect of soft skills on employee performance.

Abstract

The main issue in this study is “Analysis of Non-Equal Marriage Practices in Ammatoa Customary Law and the Pasang ri Kajang Tradition from an Islamic Law Perspective.” This research aims to provide an overview of the practice of non-equal marriages in the Ammatoa customary area, analyze the impact of non-equal marriage practices on the Ammatoa Kajang community, and elaborate the Islamic legal perspective on customary rules regarding non-equal marriage within the Ammatoa society. This study is qualitative (field research) with an ethnographic focus on the Pasang ri Kajang tradition, employing normative juridical, sociological, and anthropological approaches. Data sources were obtained from customary leaders, community members, the village head of Bontoharu, youth leaders, customary officials, religious leaders, the Bulukumba Ulama Council, Nahdlatul Ulama Bulukumba, and academicians. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data processing and analysis were conducted through data editing, data reduction, data presentation, comparative analysis, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the practice of non-equal marriage according to the Pasang ri Kajang tradition is permissible when the male party belongs to the puang (noble) class and the female party belongs to the ata (commoner) class. Conversely, marriages between women from the puang class and men from the ata class are prohibited, as they are considered contrary to prevailing customary law. This practice contributes to discriminatory treatment against the ata class, both socially and within the customary legal system, leading to psychological pressure, limited social space, and the non-fulfillment of equality before the law.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the principal's strategic design in shaping students' religious character, examine the implementation process, and evaluate the effectiveness of such strategies at SMK Islam Al Muammilin, Karangampel, Indramayu. The research is grounded in the critical role of school principals as educational leaders in creating an environment conducive to the formation of religious character, particularly in the modern era marked by moral and spiritual challenges. The decline of religious values among the younger generation has become a serious concern in Islamic education, requiring comprehensive and sustainable leadership strategies. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation from sources including the school principal, teachers, students, parents, school committee, and the head of the diniyah madrasa. Data analysis was conducted descriptively using triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that: (1) The principal's strategic design includes integrating religious values into the formal curriculum, implementing routine religious programs such as congregational prayers and recitation of Juz Amma, and applying exemplary conduct (uswah hasanah) through the behavior of teachers and staff; (2) The implementation process involves mentoring teachers as religious role models, developing an Islam-based school culture, integrating mentoring programs and the Rohis organization, and actively engaging parents and the community; (3) The implemented strategies have proven effective in shaping students' religious character through an integrative, collaborative, and sustained approach encompassing cognitive, affective, and practical dimensions, supported by the principal's visionary leadership, teacher exemplariness, adequate facilities, and a strong synergy among school, family, and community.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of entrepreneurial strategies implemented by Moi entrepreneurs in developing local businesses in Sorong Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research gathered data through in-depth interviews with Moi entrepreneurs and community leaders, supported by observations. The results indicate that the Moi entrepreneurial strategy is multifaceted, combining local wisdom (utilization of kinship networks, natural resource management) with adaptation to modern elements (improved product quality, use of simple technology). This strategy plays a crucial role in maintaining business sustainability, increasing competitiveness, and empowering the local economy. However, further business development is hampered by challenges such as limited access to capital, managerial knowledge, infrastructure, and suboptimal policy support. This study concludes that targeted interventions that strengthen existing strategies and address existing obstacles are crucial to maximizing the contribution of Moi entrepreneurship to the regional economy.

Abstract

Burnout is a form of work fatigue that arises due to prolonged work pressure and can impact the psychological condition of employees, thus potentially reducing the level of performance in the organization, especially in public sector agencies that have a high administrative burden and work responsibilities. This study was conducted to determine the effect of burnout on employee performance at the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency of the Surabaya City Government. The method used was a quantitative approach through a survey, with data collection using a questionnaire to 76 respondents selected through a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed using a simple linear regression test with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics software. Based on the results of a simple linear regression analysis, the burnout variable has a regression coefficient (B) of -0.292 with a significance value of less than 0.001, which indicates that burnout has a negative and significant effect on employee performance. These results indicate that the higher the level of burnout experienced by employees, the lower the level of performance produced. This finding is also supported by the results of the partial test (t-test) which shows a significant effect of burnout on performance, so that the research hypothesis stating that burnout has an effect on employee performance can be accepted. In addition, the results of the coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.353 indicate that burnout is able to explain 35.3% of the variation in employee performance, while the remaining 64.7% is influenced by other factors outside the research model.
