Abstract

Despite Nigeria is gifted with a wealth of natural resources and rich cultural heritage, is still backward in terms of economic development. Therefore, ecotourism has therefore been identified as a vital regional approach for harmonizing economic growth and conservation. Thus, the study empirically evaluates the current state of ecotourism in Oke Idanre hills in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria. Primary and secondary data were collected and sourced with the aid of questionnaire and scheduled Interviews. The data involved qualitative analysis using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that although ecotourism is still at an early stage, some socioeconomic benefits for the Idanre community exist such as the employment of locals as tourist guides and other investments as a result of this destination. The finding shows the use and access of resources by the locals in the Idanre community as logging and poaching have become the order of the day. Also, Idanre locals have had to cope with reduced access to some parts of the hills especially during the day since the site was listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The dilapidated site resort has brought about revenue loss to the community. The site offers rich cultural artefacts and a tour guide is usually attached to educate the tourists. Hence this study is necessary to ascertain the current state of ecotourism in Idanre hills looking from the community perspective, the practices, administration, and management of Idanre hills, also recommendations offered are centered on the study of the findings.

Abstract

Wetlands provide numerous kinds of advantages and functions, making them vital ecosystems. However, the exploitation of these resources has led to their significant depletion. Engaging communities who rely on wetlands in their sustainable management is crucial to stem the degradation of these critical habitats. This research investigated the willingness of individuals to donate financially to the conservation of wetlands in Ondo State, Nigeria. It aimed to identify the factors influencing the community's willingness to pay (WTP) and to measure the financial commitment made to wetland restoration. A systematic multi-phase sample method was used to survey 124 people who lived close to wetlands. The Binary Probit Regression Model (BPRM), the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM), and descriptive statistics were all included in the analysis. The results show that the majority of respondents (64.5%) were men, with an average age of 60 and a typical household size of six people. The importance of wetlands as water reserves was emphasized by more than half of the respondents (52%) to the survey. Moreover, 53% of respondents said that they would be willing to contribute financially to the conservation of wetlands, with an average monthly payment of ₦1038.68. Gender, household size, proximity to wetlands, and yearly income were found to be significant predictors of WTP for wetland preservation in the BPRM analysis. The study highlights the community's overall willingness to contribute to wetlands protection. It promotes laws and initiatives meant to raise regional revenues and encourage more community participation in wetland preservation.

Abstract

This article discusses the confiscation of copyright as a form of intellectual property in the investigation of criminal acts in the field of taxation and tax collection. Copyright legal provisions recognize the moral right of creators to defend their rights from things that are detrimental to their personal honor or reputation through certain legal measures, while tax law regulates the authority to carry out confiscation in the event of criminal acts in the field of taxation or unpaid tax debts. This can cause conflicts between legal provisions in their implementation and raise questions about how to confiscate copyright as an intangible movable object. To answer this question, the author carried out a juridical analysis of the provisions of Copyright law and confiscation, prepared arguments for the relevance of Copyright confiscation, and drew conclusions inductively based on the results of the analysis. With the conclusion that there is a legal basis for confiscation related to investigations, but regarding tax collection it does not have sufficient legal basis and requires further regulation of confiscation authority. The exercise of confiscation authority that is not against the law will not conflict with the Creator's legal efforts to defend his rights.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the influence of the workplace's quality on workers performance using a quantitative approach. In today's competitive business landscape, optimizing employee performance is crucial, and this research aims to identify key factors contributing to performance enhancement. A structured survey was administered to employees across various sectors, and the data were analysed using statistical methods to determine the relationships between the variables. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between the rigorous implementation of SOPs and improved worker productivity. Furthermore, the standard of the workplace was found to play a critical role in moderating this relationship, suggesting that a supportive and well-maintained work environment enhances the effectiveness of SOPs. The study provides empirical evidence that both SOPs and work environment quality are integral to boosting employee performance. These results underscore the importance of well-defined procedures and a conducive work environment in organizational strategies aimed at improving workforce productivity. Recommendations for managers include ensuring consistent application of SOPs and investing in creating a positive work environment to foster better performance outcomes.

Abstract

Childhood biological knowledge has been shown to be an important variable that affects children’s interest and understanding in biology later in life. However, in teaching and learning, most Nigerian teachers tend not associate students’ interest and understanding in biology to their childhood experiences. Hence, this study investigated childhood biological knowledge as correlate of secondary school students’ interest in biology. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study was a correlational study and was conducted in Anambra State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprised 13, 109 biology students (5, 988 males and 7, 121 females) in 161 government owned co-educational schools, across six education zones in the State. The instruments for data collection were a researcher made Childhood Biological Knowledge Scale (CBKS) to measure childhood biological knowledge and Biology Interest Questionnaire (BIQ) to measure interest. Data analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient (Pearson r) showed that childhood biological knowledge had a low positive correlation with students' interest in biology r = 24 and a low positive correlation of r= 32 for female and r= 05 for male. Thus, students’ childhood biological knowledge increases their interest in biology over time not withstanding their gender. The study recommended among others that Biology teachers should be knowledgeable about their students' childhood biological knowledge to help them correct misconceptions that could lead to poor achievement.
