Abstract

The Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) plays a strategic role in ensuring that the operations of Islamic financial institutions in Indonesia comply with Sharia principles. DPS was established by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) throught the National Sharia Council (DSN) in 1999 to oversee Sharia compliance in the banking and non-bank financial sectors. The primary roles of DPS include providing advice to management, supervising operational activities, end ensuring that the products and services offered comply with DSN fatwas. The legal basis for the existence of DPS is outlined in Law No. 40 of 2007 concerning Limited Liability Companies and Law No. 21 of 2008 concerning Islamic Banking. This study uses a library research method, where library data serve as secondary sources, meaning that the researcher obtains materials from second-hand sources rather than original first-hand data from the field. The study’s findings indicate that DPS plays a strategic role in maintaining the Sharia integrity of Islamic financial instituutions, both through transaction supervision and public education on Islamic finance. DPS also acts as an advisor, helping financial intitutions develop products that meet market needs without violating Sharia principles.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the implementation of Islamic Business Ethics in the operations of Berkah Abadi, a micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) located in Pacitan, East Java, and engaged in the snack chip production industry. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study collected data through in-depth interviews with the owners and employees of Berkah Abadi, as well as conducting observations of the production process and daily business interactions. The focus of the study is to identify and understand how the fundamental principles of Islamic Business Ethics, which include honesty in transactions and product information, fairness in relationships with suppliers and employees, trustworthiness in maintaining quality and customer trust, compliance with sharia in every aspect of finance and operations, social responsibility towards the surrounding community and the environment, and efforts to achieve ihsan in providing the best service and quality, are manifested in real terms in the business practices of Berkah Abadi MSME. The findings of this study indicate that Berkah Abadi not only makes Islamic Business Ethics a set of moral values, but also as an operational strategy integrated into its entire business value chain. The implementation of these principles contributes significantly to building a positive image of the company in the eyes of customers and the community, increasing the level of consumer trust in the products produced, strengthening good relationships with suppliers and employees, and creating an ethical and productive work environment. This study seeks to find out how compliance with Islamic values plays a role in creating blessings and sustainability of the Berkah Abadi MSME business amidst market competition. The impact of this study provides a model for the implementation of Islamic Business Ethics that can be emulated by other MSMEs, especially those operating in Indonesia, in an effort to build a business that is not only economically profitable, but also has a positive social and spiritual impact.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the empirical conditions of productive waqf management in pesantren and to formulate a productive waqf model based on Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah and sustainable development. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design and conceptual model development. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and were examined thematically by linking empirical findings with the Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah framework and sustainability principles. The findings reveal that pesantren possess significant waqf potential; however, its management remains predominantly consumptive, constrained by limited professional capacity of nazhir and weak institutional governance. This study proposes a productive waqf model that holistically integrates educational, economic, and social dimensions through strengthened governance, development of waqf-based productive business units, integration of Islamic social finance instruments, and the utilization of digital technology. The proposed model positions waqf as a strategic instrument for enhancing pesantren self-reliance and promoting sustainable socio-economic development of the Muslim community.

Abstract

This study examines the ideological foundations of Islamic philanthropy practiced by Lazismu in East Java and its implications for mustahik economic empowerment. Rooted in Muhammadiyah’s principles of tajdid (renewal), amanah (trust), keadilan (justice), and maslahah (public welfare), Lazismu operationalizes zakat, infaq, and shadaqah funds through productive empowerment programs such as Bankziska, Tani Bangkit, and Kampung Berkemajuan. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research collected data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving program managers, beneficiaries, and institutional stakeholders. The findings reveal that Muhammadiyah’s ideology functions as a strategic driver shaping program design, beneficiary selection, and governance mechanisms. Lazismu’s empowerment model demonstrates measurable socio-economic outcomes, including increased business turnover, enhanced agricultural productivity, and improved financial independence among mustahik. Moreover, the integration of vocational training, digital innovation, and moral education strengthens the sustainability and ethical orientation of empowerment initiatives. This study contributes to the moral economy discourse by illustrating how religious ideology, when institutionalized effectively, can transcend charitable redistribution and become a transformative framework for inclusive development. The results underscore that ideology-based Islamic philanthropy can serve as a viable model for faith-driven social enterprise and sustainable community empowerment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and reconstruct the concept of productive waqf within the framework of Islamic economic law by integrating the principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and sustainable development. Productive waqf has significant potential as an Islamic social finance instrument that functions not only as religious philanthropy but also as a mechanism for economic empowerment, social equity, and environmental sustainability. However, this potential remains underutilized due to regulatory limitations, weak institutional governance, and the low professionalism of nazhir. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a normative juridical method, complemented by conceptual and comparative approaches. Data were collected through library research on statutory regulations, Islamic economic law literature, and relevant previous studies. The findings indicate that the reconstruction of productive waqf law should emphasize a maslahah-oriented impact approach, strengthen nazhir professionalism, and integrate Islamic financial innovation and digital technology. Such reconstruction is essential to ensure that productive waqf plays a sustainable role in supporting economic, social, and environmental development.

Abstract

The development of digital marketplaces has encouraged the widespread distribution of halal products, but on the other hand, it has raised issues regarding the protection of Muslim consumers due to the prevalence of non-certified halal products. This study aims to analyze the forms of legal protection for Muslim consumers in the distribution of non-certified halal products in digital marketplaces and to examine the legal responsibilities of platform providers. This study uses a normative juridical method with a legislative and conceptual approach, supported by a literature review of legislation, scientific literature, and marketplace policies. The results show that, normatively, Muslim consumer protection is regulated in the Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 1999 and the Halal Product Guarantee Law No. 33 of 2014, but its implementation in digital marketplaces is not yet optimal. Platform providers tend to limit their responsibility as intermediaries, even though they derive economic benefits and play an active role in the transaction system. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the responsibility of platforms and integrate the principles of Islamic economic law in order to realize fair and sustainable protection for Muslim consumers.
