Abstract

Assessing the severity of diabetic ulcers is crucial for determining clinical management and patient prognosis. This quantitative, cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate ulcer severity profiles using the Meggitt–Wagner and SINBAD classifications in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. A total of 190 respondents were selected via purposive sampling, with a majority being male (50.5%) and working as housewives (51.1%). According to the Meggitt–Wagner classification, most respondents fell into the severe (47.4%) and moderate (43.7%) categories. Meanwhile, the SINBAD instrument classified patients predominantly into high (45.8%) and moderate (40.5%) categories. These findings indicate discrepancies in wound mapping distribution; Meggitt–Wagner emphasizes macro-anatomical aspects (wound depth and infection/gangrene), whereas SINBAD offers a more comprehensive evaluation by integrating broader physiological factors such as ischemia and neuropathy. In conclusion, the majority of patients presented with complex wound conditions requiring multidimensional management.

Abstract

Gastritis is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases found in healthcare facilities. Globally, the prevalence of gastritis reaches more than 50% of the world's population, while in Indonesia, the incidence remains high and is a major cause of outpatient visits. Coffee consumption patterns are suspected to be a risk factor for gastritis due to caffeine content, which can increase gastric acid secretion and irritate the gastric mucosa. This study aimed to determine the relationship between coffee consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis in patients at Nurussyifa General Hospital, Kudus. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational analytic design and a cross-sectional study method. A sample of 36 patients diagnosed with gastritis was selected using a total sampling technique. Coffee consumption patterns were measured using a questionnaire, while the incidence of gastritis was classified into acute and chronic gastritis based on medical diagnosis. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's Rho test. The results showed that most respondents had a low coffee consumption pattern (44.8%) and experienced acute gastritis (66.7%). The Spearman's Rho test revealed a p-value = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between coffee consumption and the incidence of gastritis. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between coffee consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis in patients at Nurussyifa General Hospital, Kudus.

Abstract

Surgical procedures are invasive interventions that often cause anxiety in patients before surgery. Anxiety experienced by patients, if not managed properly, may affect physiological conditions such as increased blood pressure and heart rate, thereby potentially interfering with the implementation of surgical procedures. The goal of the study to determine the application of guided imagery techniques on anxiety levels in preoperative patients. This study used a case study design involving four preoperative patients as respondents. Anxiety levels were measured using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale before and after the guided imagery intervention, which was conducted for approximately 20 minutes. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing changes in anxiety scores before and after the intervention. The results showed that the average anxiety score before the intervention was 18, which was categorized as moderate anxiety. After the guided imagery technique was applied, the average anxiety score decreased to 13.5, which was categorized as mild anxiety. All respondents experienced a decrease in anxiety levels after receiving the intervention. Guided imagery techniques can be used as an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help reduce anxiety and improve patients’ psychological readiness before undergoing surgical procedures.
