Abstract

Bronchopneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in young children worldwide, including in developing countries. Smoking behavior within the family environment also increases the incidence of this disease. The research aims to determine the relationship between family smoking behavior and the incidence of bronchopneumonia in toddlers. The research method is quantitative correlational with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 46 toddlers was selected using purposive sampling. The research was conducted in the children's room of RSI Sultan Hadlirin Jepara. The instrument consists of a smoking behavior questionnaire and medical record data on the occurrence of bronchopneumonia. The analysis uses the Chi-Square test with signification 5%.. The research findings showed that 47.8% of children had severe smoking behavior and 95.7% experienced bronchopneumonia. Analysis revealed a significant relationship between family smoking behavior and the occurrence of bronchopneumonia in toddlers, with a p-value of 0.003. The conclusion is that family smoking behavior increases the risk of bronchopneumonia in toddlers. Further research is needed on other factors related to the development of bronchopneumonia.

Abstract

Nurses are a vital part of the healthcare system with a significant responsibility in providing nursing care. Heavy and repetitive physical activities, such as lifting patients and working in a sitting or standing position for extended periods can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly low back pain (LBP). This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sitting and standing duration and the incidence of LBP among nurses at Pati Islamic Hospital based on age, gender, length of service, work unit, and work shift. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. The samples were 51 nurses which selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were aged 25–35 years (39.2%), female (70.6%), had 5–10 years of service (49%), worked in inpatient units (58.8%), and worked on day shifts (51%). The most frequent sitting time was 2–4 hours (49%), and standing time was <2 hours (43.14%). The most common complaints of low back pain were mild (52.94%) and moderate (47.06%) pain. A chi-square test showed a significant association between sitting duration (p=0.014) and standing duration (p=0.029) with LBP. There is a significant association between sitting and standing duration and low back pain in nurses. Static working positions pose risks, necessitating ergonomic interventions and workload management

Abstract

Childhood nutrition have a crucial role in building a healthy and high-quality generation. One effective approach to improving the nutritional status of children under five is through the provision of nutritious locally-based supplementary food (PMT). This study aims to analyze the impact of the demonstration method on the skills of community health cadres mothers in preparing locally-based PMT. The study employs a pre-experimental design with a pre-posttest approach, involving 20 community health cadres mothers as respondents. The training was conducted in October 2025, focusing on processing moringa leaves into nutritious PMT. The training began with presentation followed by a demonstration of processing local ingredients so that the cadres could gain skills to share with the community. Skill assessments were carried out before and after the training using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results indicate that most respondents experienced an improvement in skills, with 12 respondents (60%) showing significant skill enhancement after the intervention. The statistical test, with a p-value of 0.000, shows that the demonstration method has a significant effect on improving the skills of community health cadres mothers in preparing locally-based PMT. The study concludes that the demonstration method is effective in enhancing the practical skills of community health care mothers in preparing nutritious PMT for children under five, and it can be implemented in community-based nutritional empowerment programs using local resources.

Abstract

Major surgery is a medical procedure that requires both mental and physicalpreparation as it can trigger anxiety. This anxiety may arise during the preoperative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases, necessitating appropriatenursing care. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) and deep breathing arenursing interventions aimed at reducing anxiety by relaxing tense muscles andenhancing comfort. This study aims to determine the difference in anxiety levelsamong pre-operative patients before and after being administered a combinationof progressive muscle relaxation and deep breathing techniques. The researchdesign is a quasi-experimental study using a one-group pre-test and post-testdesign. The sample consisted of 46 participants selected through purposivesampling. The research instrument used was the Amsterdam Pre-OperativeAnxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. The results showed thatthe average anxiety level scores decreased after the implementation of thecombined progressive muscle relaxation and deep breathing techniques, with ap-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). This indicates a significant difference between the pretest and post-test values. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in anxietylevels among pre-operative patients before and after the intervention. Widerapplication of this intervention is recommended for pre-operative patientsexperiencing anxiety.

Abstract

Puberty accompanies the growth and development of children into adolescents, marked by the onset of menarche (the first menstruation) in young girls.Maintaining reproductive health, such as practicing genital self-care duringmenstruation, is essential for adolescent girls. Good knowledge and attitudes arerequired for them to perform proper menstrual self-care. This study aims todescribe the knowledge, attitudes, and self-care behaviors during menstruationamong adolescents. The research type is descriptive quantitative with a crosssectional design. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, with atotal of 55 respondents. The results showed that 70.9% of respondents had a goodlevel of knowledge. Regarding attitudes toward self-care, 100% were categorizedas good, while 80% of respondents' behaviors were categorized as poor. Inconclusion, while the knowledge and attitudes regarding menstrual self-careamong adolescents were found to be good, the actual behavior was poor. Furthereducation through practical demonstrations on maintaining personal hygieneduring menstruation is needed, along with a support system from various partiesto enhance the motivation of adolescent girls in maintaining menstrual hygiene.
