Abstract

Nurses are a vital part of the healthcare system with a significant responsibility in providing nursing care. Heavy and repetitive physical activities, such as lifting patients and working in a sitting or standing position for extended periods can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly low back pain (LBP). This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sitting and standing duration and the incidence of LBP among nurses at Pati Islamic Hospital based on age, gender, length of service, work unit, and work shift. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. The samples were 51 nurses which selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were aged 25–35 years (39.2%), female (70.6%), had 5–10 years of service (49%), worked in inpatient units (58.8%), and worked on day shifts (51%). The most frequent sitting time was 2–4 hours (49%), and standing time was <2 hours (43.14%). The most common complaints of low back pain were mild (52.94%) and moderate (47.06%) pain. A chi-square test showed a significant association between sitting duration (p=0.014) and standing duration (p=0.029) with LBP. There is a significant association between sitting and standing duration and low back pain in nurses. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that contributes to the increased incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD). Chronic hyperglycemia can trigger a prothrombotic state and hematological abnormalities such as thrombocytosis. This study aimed to describe the thrombocytosis profile in DM patients based on the occurrence of CHD. This was a descriptive retrospective study using medical records of 160 DM patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. Platelet counts were classified according to WHO and CDC clinical reference values. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that the majority of respondents had normal platelet counts (63.8%), but there was a significant proportion of thrombocytosis at 28.7% (46 patients). Among patients with CHD (29 patients), the occurrence of thrombocytosis was found to be 11.9% (19 patients), while in the non-CHD group, it was 16.9% (27 patients). In conclusion, thrombocytosis is a hematological finding frequently observed in DM patients and is important to consider in clinical evaluation for cardiovascular risk stratification.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a long-term metabolic condition that can impair peripheral blood flow, as reflected by reduced Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) measurements. BARKAH therapy, which combines Buerger Allen Exercise with warm water foot immersion, is a non-pharmacological approach intended to enhance peripheral circulation. This study aimed to describe ABI values among patients with diabetes mellitus following the application of BARKAH therapy. A quantitative descriptive design was employed in this study. ABI measurements were obtained using a Doppler instrument and analyzed through univariate techniques. The findings revealed that the majority of participants demonstrated ABI values within normal and acceptable ranges after undergoing BARKAH therapy. These results suggest that BARKAH therapy has the potential to contribute positively to the improvement of peripheral blood circulation in individuals with diabetes mellitus.
