Abstract

The Laklak Batak Manuscript, an invaluable repository of Batak culture and history, stands as a testament to the enduring significance of cultural heritage preservation. This research endeavors to safeguard the manuscript from the environmental, physical, and neglectful threats it faces, while also celebrating its profound cultural and historical significance. The research methodology encompasses a multidisciplinary approach, combining skilled conservation, climate-controlled storage, digitization, and active community engagement. Collaborations with experts, institutions, and local communities play an essential role in these preservation efforts, transforming the manuscript's condition from vulnerability to resilience. The current condition of the manuscript reflects meticulous restoration and an optimal storage environment, ensuring its structural integrity and visual quality. Ongoing preservation initiatives continue to enhance access, awareness, and appreciation of this living cultural treasure. In conclusion, the Laklak Batak Manuscript is not just a relic; it is a bridge connecting the past to the future, facilitating an enriched understanding of Batak culture and history. This research serves as a model for the preservation of cultural heritage, underscoring the importance of safeguarding linguistic, artistic, and historical legacies that enrich our collective human experience.

Abstract

This research unveils the symbolic depth of the Panggih Ceremony, a central component of traditional Javanese weddings. The ceremony is a living canvas upon which intricate symbols are painted, embodying the core values and beliefs of Javanese culture. Through a detailed exploration of the symbolism inherent in the ceremony's elements, this research offers an illuminating journey into the heart of Javanese traditions. The traditional attire of the bride and groom, marked by the pristine white of the kebaya and the vibrant batik sarong, signifies purity, unity, and balance. The siraman, a ritual of purification, prepares the couple with spiritual and emotional clarity, highlighting the importance of starting their journey with pure hearts. The exchange of gifts, including twin hairpins and a ceremonial dagger, symbolizes promises of love, protection, and support, reinforcing the commitment to mutual well-being. The seserahan, the ceremonial exchange of gifts between families, signifies unity and the merging of households, with each item exchanged carrying specific meaning. The Serimpi dance, celebrated for its grace and harmony, emphasizes coordination and mutual understanding in the marital relationship. The orientation of the couple facing west symbolizes the end of their individual journeys and the commencement of their shared path. The Panggih Ceremony embodies the essence of purity, unity, and balance, celebrating the enduring values and traditions of Javanese culture. It transcends borders and speaks to universal themes, emphasizing the power of tradition and symbolism in commemorating love and unity. This research not only enriches our understanding of the symbolism within cultural ceremonies but also serves as a tribute to the cultural heritage of Javanese society, encapsulating the timeless message that love, unity, and harmony are the cornerstones of a meaningful life journey.

Abstract

This research evaluation investigates the influence of guidance and counseling programs in school settings, focusing on their effects on student well-being, academic performance, and the overall school environment. A mixed-methods approach was employed, encompassing quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights. The quantitative analysis yielded significant results, demonstrating a marked improvement in academic performance among students who actively engaged with counseling programs. Furthermore, these students exhibited a noteworthy rise in attendance rates, attending school 10% more regularly than their peers who did not participate in counseling. The qualitative analysis offered deeper insights, revealing personal growth as a recurrent theme among students. Participants cited the development of problem-solving skills, increased self-esteem, and enhanced self-confidence as critical outcomes. Additionally, improved interpersonal relationships and a harmonious school environment were reported, indicating a broader impact on the school community. The commitment to inclusivity and equity underscored the need to ensure that all students, regardless of their background or circumstances, have equal access to counseling services. This inclusivity promotes a more equitable educational environment. These findings carry implications for the field of guidance and counseling in schools. They underscore the pivotal role of counselors in fostering student success, both academically and emotionally. The results call for a holistic approach to student development, emphasizing the importance of early intervention, inclusivity, and creating positive school cultures. This research offers a pathway to strengthening guidance and counseling programs, ultimately enhancing the educational experience for students. It serves as a catalyst for the field, driving the evolution of guidance and counseling to create a nurturing and inclusive educational environment where every student can thrive academically and emotionally.

Abstract

Silalahi Ulos weaving, a distinctive cultural tradition in Silahisabungan District, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, serves as a vibrant thread connecting the past and the present. This research delves into the rich cultural tapestry woven by the Batak Toba community, exploring the intricate patterns, motifs, and designs that adorn Silalahi Ulos textiles and their profound cultural significance. The study investigates the origins and historical development of Silalahi Ulos weaving, tracing its evolution from a traditional craft to an emblem of cultural identity. The research also highlights the rituals, ceremonies, and life events where Silalahi Ulos textiles play a pivotal role, symbolizing blessings, protection, and unity. The patterns and motifs found in these textiles, such as the Gorga, Naga, and Sigale-gale, convey deep spiritual and cultural meanings, serving as a bridge between the earthly and spiritual realms. This research further explores the challenges and threats faced by Silalahi Ulos weaving, including urbanization, changing lifestyles, and economic pressures. However, it underscores the resilience of the Batak Toba community in safeguarding their cultural heritage. Efforts to preserve, promote, and study Silalahi Ulos weaving encompass cultural education, economic sustainability through fair trade, intellectual property protection, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement. The conclusion reflects the commitment to preserving this unique cultural heritage, ensuring that Silalahi Ulos weaving remains a vibrant emblem of cultural pride and an enduring thread that weaves the cultural tapestry of Silahisabungan District, Dairi Regency, and Indonesia as a whole.

This research delves into the dynamic world of informal language usage among students on the popular messaging platform, WhatsApp. As digital communication becomes an integral part of daily life, the study examines the frequency, variability, motivations, and social dynamics of slang usage among students. Through surveys, interviews, and, where possible, data analysis of WhatsApp conversations, the research uncovers the complex interplay between language, technology, and human connection in the digital realm. The findings reveal that slang is not merely a linguistic phenomenon but a reflection of the adaptability of language in the digital age. It serves as a linguistic bridge that enables informal communication in digital interactions. The lexicon of slang is diverse and ever-evolving, reflecting the cultural and social context in which it thrives. Motivations for slang usage go beyond humor and informality, extending to self-expression, emotional connection, and the formation of digital identities. Slang enhances social bonds and fosters a sense of belonging among peers, shaping the quality of digital interactions. Demographic variations in slang usage demonstrate its context-dependent nature, influenced by factors such as age, gender, and geographical location. Souvenir trading in this region transcends traditional commerce, serving as a cultural exchange that preserves Batak heritage, fuels economic growth, and contributes to the broader creative economy. The study begins by investigating the background of the research, emphasizing the cultural significance, geographical location, and economic conditions of the Tomok Area. The existing literature and related studies are reviewed, providing a comprehensive understanding of souvenir trading, tourism, and the creative economy. This background prepares the groundwork for a detailed exploration of tourism and creative economy, introducing readers to the concepts and their relevance to the Tomok Area. The research dissects the services provided by souvenir traders, highlighting their cultural engagement, authenticity, and personalization. It underlines how these services enhance the tourist experience, fostering deeper connections between visitors and the local culture. The study then uncovers the challenges faced by souvenir traders, including market competition, changing tourist preferences, and sustainability demands. A critical component of this research is the examination of successful strategies employed by souvenir traders. Real-life examples showcase how cultural engagement, product customization, collaboration with local artisans, sustainability practices, and an online presence have positively influenced their businesses and the region's economy. Abstract

The Batak linguistic group in North Sumatra, Indonesia, encompasses a diverse array of languages, each representing a unique cultural identity. This research embarks on an in-depth comparative analysis of these languages to unveil their linguistic relationships and explore their cultural significance within their respective communities. The research employs a multi-faceted approach, involving data collection from native speakers, fieldwork in community settings, and collaboration with language experts. Linguistic data, including phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic features, are meticulously analyzed. Comparative methods are applied to elucidate linguistic bonds and distinctive nuances within these languages. Our analysis confirms the presence of strong linguistic bonds among the Mandailing Batak, Toba Batak, and Karo languages. Shared phonological features, agglutinative morphology, SVO word order, and culturally significant lexicons underscore their common Batak heritage. The existence of tonal patterns and tonal variations enriches the linguistic landscape. Simultaneously, distinctive linguistic nuances in each language highlight their unique identities and cultural significance. This research emphasizes the significance of preserving linguistic diversity and cultural heritage within the Batak communities. The findings provide valuable insights into the preservation of cultural practices, historical knowledge, and ancestral narratives. It serves as a call to action for the continued preservation and revitalization of these languages, recognizing their profound connections to culture and identity.

The selection of a college major represents a pivotal decision in the lives of students, shaping their academic and professional futures. Amid the ever-expanding array of academic disciplines and the challenges of navigating career aspirations, career education programs emerge as essential tools in empowering students to make informed choices. This research endeavors to assess the effectiveness of career education programs in aiding students with their major decisions and illuminates the significance of their impact. Through a comprehensive examination that included surveys, interviews, and data analysis, the study offers insights into the transformative potential of career education programs. The findings underscore the positive influence of these programs on students' major choices and career aspirations. Students who engage with career education programs consistently make choices that align with their passions and goals. The study also highlights the pivotal role of these programs in nurturing self-confidence among students in making major decisions, instilling in them the belief that they possess the ability to shape their own academic and professional destinies. Moreover, the research acknowledges demographic variations in the effectiveness of these programs.
