Abstract

This article analyzes the historical formation of the “Kurdish factor” in the foreign policies of Turkey and Iran, as well as its impact and consequences for state security. The study explores the trajectory from the Treaty of Sèvres and the Treaty of Lausanne to the transnational demographic weight of the Kurds, the activities of the PKK and PJAK, the dynamics of the Kurdish diaspora, and Turkey’s operations in Syria and Iraq (Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring, Claw-Sword) within the context of the AKP’s democratic opening initiatives. Regarding Iran, the article highlights pragmatic relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), resource geopolitics, the Sunni–Shia dimension, and the paradigm of “domestic security” as central concepts. The paper also discusses legitimization discourses that rely on Article 51 of the UN Charter and UN Security Council resolutions, and it proposes an integrated model of political, legal, and economic approaches for regional stability. The analysis demonstrates that the Kurdish issue cannot be resolved solely through military measures; instead, reducing economic inequality, recognizing cultural rights, and fostering transnational cooperation are essential pathways.

Abstract

This study  aimed to examine the effectiveness of positive psychological interventions in enhancing resilience among children of divorced parents in a rural, low-education context. A qualitative case study was conducted with a 13-year-old male participant from North Bengkulu, Indonesia, who had experienced parental divorce since early childhood. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The interventions included gratitude journaling, hope building, positive self-affirmation, and enhancement of social relationships. Findings demonstrated improvements in resilience across four domains: (1) emotional regulation, shifting from destructive to adaptive emotional expression; (2) optimism, moving from pessimism toward setting small academic goals; (3) self-efficacy, progressing from negative self-image to increased confidence through positive affirmation; and (4) social relationships, developing from social withdrawal to active peer engagement. These results indicate that positive psychological interventions are effective in strengthening resilience in children from divorced families. The study contributes to filling a gap in research on the application of positive psychology for children of divorced parents in rural areas, with implications for designing culturally sensitive psychological support programs.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines two pivotal moments in Arab history—Emir Fakhr al-Dīn II’s 17th-century experiment in pluralist governance and the Arab Revolt of 1916–1918—as lenses through which to understand the ongoing struggle for sovereignty in the Middle East. Fakhr al-Dīn’s alliance with Renaissance Tuscany and his inclusive administration in Mount Lebanon demonstrate a practical model of statecraft based on commerce, tolerance, and institutional innovation. In contrast, the Arab Revolt, sparked by Sharif Husayn’s call for independence and driven by British promises, shows the danger of mobilising without solid guarantees. Both episodes, separated by centuries, focus on a common theme: the tension between local aspirations and imperial manipulation. Building on these histories, the paper outlines a seven-point policy framework for the Global South—highlighting pluralist governance, conditional foreign partnerships, formalised mediation, local capacity development, inclusive jurisprudence, evidence collection, and civic education. These lessons are not just ideals, but practical strategies to turn sovereignty from a symbolic goal into a lasting reality. The paper contends, by combining historical lessons with modern policy planning, that the path to legitimate governance is not through heroic moments or external pledges, but through the daily labour of creating inclusive institutions. This is more than just a historical reflection; it is a call to urgent statecraft for states facing geopolitical storms and the continuous struggle for dignity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the factors shaping community involvement with the Waste Bank Program in Makassar City, focusing on sustaining pro-environmental behavior. These findings highlight that effective participation is shaped by the intersection of institutional frameworks and personal drivers rather than environmental awareness alone. The study contributes by integrating behavioral theories, social capital, and economic mechanisms into a single model. Insights offer actionable strategies for policymakers to strengthen capacity building, enhance transparency of incentive systems, and improve leadership credibility to sustain long-term community participation.
