Abstract

Digital transformation has become a global trend that provides many conveniences and opportunities for society. However, several studies have shown that these changes can also widen economic and social disparities if not handled properly. This paper aims to review recent research on the potential and challenges of digital technology in dealing with inequality issues. The literature review shows that digital technologies have the ability to increase inclusion and access to resources, but also potentially pose risks of exclusion for vulnerable groups, bias in algorithms, and concentration of power by giant digital companies. Successfully harnessing the benefits of digital transformation to achieve socio-economic justice requires collaboration between the government, private sector and civil society in developing comprehensive policies and regulations. Only with a planned and sustained collective effort can digitalisation become a catalyst for a more just and inclusive society.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of economic and social inequality on people's welfare through a comprehensive literature review. Economic and social inequality is an increasingly prominent issue in many countries and has far-reaching implications for societal stability and development. This study identifies that high inequality contributes to various social problems such as increased crime, declining public health, and limited access to education and economic opportunities. In addition, inequality weakens social cohesion and trust among community members, which can impact political stability and the effectiveness of public policies. To address these negative impacts, this study suggests the need for fairer redistributive policies, as well as improved access to fundamental services such as education and health, to improve individual well-being and achieve more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created both hope and concern about the future. On the one hand, AI has the potential to increase productivity, efficiency, and innovation in various sectors. On the other hand, AI-induced automation can also threaten the existence of human jobs, especially for routine and structured jobs. This article presents a literature review on the potentials and challenges of a future with AI. The literature review shows that to optimise the potential of AI, a comprehensive and proactive strategy is required. These include investments in education and training for new skills, policies that support workforce transition, strong regulatory frameworks to maintain security and privacy, and efforts to address bias and discrimination in AI systems. Close collaboration between humans and machines is also essential to maximise the added value that can be generated. With the right approach, the potential of AI can be harnessed to advance human well-being and provide solutions to global challenges. However, awareness and collective action from various stakeholders are needed for a fair and sustainable future transformation with AI.

Abstract

A country's economic well-being can be assessed through its economic development. Economic development in a specific region can be measured by its economic growth. In this study, economic growth is indicated by the influence of Regional Own-Source Revenue (PAD), capital expenditure, and the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK). This research aims to determine (1) the simultaneous and partial effects of PAD, capital expenditure, and TPAK on economic growth, and (2) the dominant variable influencing economic growth. The data used in this study consists of secondary time series data from 2018 to 2023 across nine regencies/cities in Bali Province. Data analysis was conducted using panel data regression with the assistance of the Eviews 12 software. The results show that PAD, capital expenditure, and TPAK collectively influence economic growth in the nine regencies/cities in Bali Province during 2018–2023. PAD and capital expenditure have a positive and significant effect on economic growth in these areas. Meanwhile, TPAK also has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on economic growth. PAD is identified as the dominant variable influencing economic growth in the nine regencies/cities in Bali Province during 2018–2023. This study implies that local governments need to strengthen strategies to increase PAD through revenue innovations, strategically manage capital expenditure to promote key sectors such as tourism and MSMEs, and enhance the quality and productivity of the workforce to support more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of risk and quality perceptions on cosmetic sample use and purchase conversion rate among Korean adult women. Methods: An online survey was conducted among 433 Korean adult women in their 20s to 50s. The survey collected data on the consumers' risk perception, quality perception, sample usage rate, and actual purchase conversion rate about cosmetic samples. Results: The results indicate that risk perception of cosmetic samples has a negative effect on quality perception and sample usage rate. However, quality perception has a positive effect on sample usage rate and actual purchase conversion rate. Furthermore, the study found that the sample usage rate has a positive effect on actual purchase conversion rate. Conclusions: Future research could expand the scope to include other demographic groups or cultural contexts. Cosmetic companies can use these findings to design more effective free sample promotions that address customers' risk perceptions while enhancing their quality perceptions. This study may contribute to improving customer satisfaction and loyalty in the cosmetics industry by providing insights into how cosmetic companies can effectively use free samples as a sales promotion tool.
