Abstract

English as an international language and the most widely used universally in the world, this condition requires education in Indonesia to implement English language learning as a provision for its human resources, but the facts on the ground show that many students at SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja are still not used to it. in English due to limited vocabulary. The aim of this research is to increase students' English vocabulary through English song-based learning. This research activity was carried out at SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja in class 10 with a sample of 38 students. The type of research used is qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews and observation. The research results explain that song-based learning in English learning can increase students' vocabulary to improve English language skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to 1) find out and classify the context of the discourse on the Cerpen Gubrak! by Seno Gumira Ajidarma, 2) classification of submissions to each type, and 3) describe the mandate/massage of the meaning contained in the short story on students’ character education. This research uses qualitative descriptive research methods and data analysis techniques using literature study techniques, and data collection is by searching library sources (cerpen) from the internet, then reading and recording for data analysis purposes, then analysing research data. The results of the research on the Cerpen Gubrak! by Seno Gumira Ajidarma have implicit meanings so that researchers find meaning and respect that we can learn for everyday life as a form of appreciation and experience for both researchers and readers. Based on the results of the study, the researchers classified the analytical data found to each element and described the meaning contained in the context of the discourse. The results of the follow-up analysis data based on the above data are 2 locations, 3 illusions, and 5 perlocations.

Abstract

This article analyzes figurative language in the poem Provide Proven by Robert Frost. Robert Frost is one of the writers who uses various types of figurative language in his work. The purpose of using figurative language in poetry is to emphasize the meaning of the author that he wants to express. Apart from that, it is also used to beautify the sound of poetry. Data was collected from text and analyzed using descriptive-qualitative research. The results of this research show that there are five types Figurative language: metaphor, irony, personification, alliteration.

Abstract

This research was created to determine figurative language according to theory (Keraf, 2007) in several selected poems by Dylan Thomas. This research includes qualitative research with an object approach through qualitative methods to analyze 3 poems by Dyland Thomas namely, Do Not Go Gantle Into That Good Night, Love in The Asylum, and Clown in The Moon. The techniques used in data analysis are reading, finding, understanding, identifying and making conclusions from each poem by Dyland Thomas which is analyzed. The results of this research show that figurative language in this selected poem is eleven repetitions, four symbols, four similes, two hyperboles, one personification, and one oxymoron. So, it can be concluded that this selection of poems by Dyland Thomas is dominated by Repetition.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to look at the effectiveness of cartoon based learning to improve speaking skills. Researchers used a qualitative method. The subject was a Junior High Schooler student (SMP). Research results will show the effectiveness of cartoon base learning from observation and interviews. Cartoons were rated for their effectiveness on improving learning outcomes. The findings and presentation skills improved and their confidence to speak in front of the class increased, students also learned technology which is beneficial for their study and future career. Therefore, suggests that teachers consider this aid in theaching-learning processes.

Abstract

This article tries to analyze the class or social conflict reflected through one of the short story titles, especially the one entitled Aku Ingin Pulang from the short story collection Lukisan Untuk Papa by Nanan Ginanjar. Through descriptive qualitative analysis by critically reading literary works which will then be identified. The depiction contained in the literary work is not only a narrative plot, but also a reflection of the social, cultural and political conditions prevailing in Indonesian society through a series of words that the author tries to describe through his writing. There are sixteen short story titles contained in this short story collection book which of course contains various types of social life including conflicts that generally occur in the surrounding community such as conflicts between families, economic conflicts, and cross-generational conflicts. However, this discussion only focuses on the short story entitled “Aku Ingin Pulang”. The results of the study: (1) Ari as the main character who misses his life in the village. (2) Ari's father's efforts to improve the family's economy by betting his fate in the capital have reached a deadlock. (3) The existence of several lower middle class families living under the flyover is a real picture that occurs around the village.

Abstract

This study limits the problem its problem to the issue of social dehumanization depicted in the comic Maus, which as a reflection of the Jewish community’s condition in Germany during the Nazi regime. This research is qualitative research that uses Ian Watt's sociology of literature as a basis for theorizing. By regarding literature as a reflection of society, this research aims to elucidate how the comic Maus reflects the issue of dehumanization, based on the social realities of the World War II era. The data used in this study are quotations from the comic Maus, supplemented by supporting literature such as books and scholarly articles. The data collection techniques employed in this research include: 1) identifying social issues within the comic, 2) analyzing and interpreting these social issues, 3) examining the data as a reflection of society depicting the social problem of dehumanization among the Jewish community in Germany during the Nazi regime, and 4) formulating conclusions based on the analysis conducted. The conclusion drawn from this research is that the comic Maus serves as a reflection of the dehumanization in Germany according to the author's perspective or ideology, influenced by the author's social background. As a reflection of social realities, Maus cannot fully represent the entirety of society. Through the author, who represents a segment of society that experienced the Holocaust, Spiegelman presents his social viewpoint on the dehumanization that occurred in Germany, drawing from his family's experiences as survivors of the horrific events perpetrated by the Nazis.

This research delves into the intricate connection that exists between the human condition and the reflection of nature. Through a nearby investigation of the text, this examination intends to reveal how Hawthorne complicatedly winds around together components of imagery and story to depict hidden presences - a figurative investigation of the intricacies of human life and its collaboration with the regular world. The narrative delves into the depths of individual consciousness while simultaneously reflecting the sublime beauty and mystery of nature, drawing on themes of isolation, morality, and societal norms. This study sheds light on the larger cultural and philosophical implications of the narrative by contrasting Hawthorne's portrayal with Wordsworth's philosophical perspectives on human existence and nature."

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve students' speaking skills through a project based learning, making them more immersive and active. This study used experimental techniques and analysis of students' cognitive abilities with quantitative research techniques through oral tests. The research questions considered in this study are: was there a significant effectiveness of simple project-based learning syntaxes in teaching speaking (pronunciation element) and to what extent was the effectiveness of simple project-based learning syntaxes in teaching speaking (pronunciation element)?. The purpose of this study is to know whether the Simple project-based learning syntaxes to teach speaking (pronunciation element) contributes significantly to the senior high school students’ speaking ability of eleventh grade student of MA NW Juet academic year 2024. And the perpose of this research is to find out the extent of Simple project-based learning syntaxes in teaching speaking (pronunciation element). The analytical methods used for data processing are included in the Social Science Statistics 22.0 for Windows. The results before applying the project based learning technique, only 50% of students are able to spek in English and after applying the project based learning, it improved student's ability to speak in English by 80%. Applying project based learning , especially speaking, This is the right strategy to improve students' speaking skills (pronunciation).

Abstract

This Journal was written to find figurative language in the poem “Alone” by Maya Angelou with the aim that readers can more easily understand the meaning of this poem through the figurative language we found. The focus of this study is figurative language which involves; Metaphor, Simile, Symbolism, Alliteration, and Personification. This research used qualitative data collection method where the researcher increase the representative data. The result of this study showed there were 11 figurative language in poem Maya Angelou “Alone”, There were ; 2 Metaphor, 2 Personification, 1 simile, 4 alliteration, and 2 symbolism. The researchers concluded that they had found 11 figurative language in one of Maya Angelou's poetry works entitled "Alone".
