Abstract

Community engagement was conducted to introduce food and non-food products of animal origin to elementary school students in Nagari Saniangbaka. Honey was selected as a food of animal origin, while organic fertilizer was selected as a non-food of animal origin. The former extension was conducted in SDN 08 Saniangbaka, while the latter extension was conducted in SDN 10 Saniangbaka. The goal of these activities was to introduce honey and animal fertilizer in order to improve their basic science knowledge and enhance health and environmental awareness. The activities were conducted through short lectures, discussions, quizzes, and the distribution of reward food. Extension of honey began with an introduction to bees as honey-producing insects, types of honey-producing bees, sources of nectar-producing plants, the honey production process, and the health benefits of honey. Extension of organic fertilizer was explained regarding various types of livestock and poultry, the potential for manure to turn into pollution if not utilized, animal manure as a by-product that can be converted into fertilizer, and the role of fertilizer for plants. The first activity significantly broadens participants' insight regarding the important role of bees and honey for humans. The second activity positively increases the interest in utilizing animal by-products for plant growth and fosters environmental concern. Both activities enrich students' science insight toward selected products of animal origin, and improve their awareness of food and the environment.

Abstract

Nagari Kudu Gantiang is one of the nagari where most residents are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. However, the utilization of organic waste such as crop residues and livestock manure has not been optimized. Agricultural waste is often discarded or openly burned, leading to environmental pollution, while farmers remain highly dependent on chemical fertilizers whose prices continue to increase. Based on these conditions, this community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of the women’s PKK group in processing organic waste into compost as an effort to promote sustainable agriculture. The methods included counseling, participatory discussions, and compost-making demonstrations using agricultural residues, soil, and livestock manure with the addition of EM4 bio-activator. The activity was attended by 45 participants at the Nagari Kudu Gantiang Office Hall. The results indicated an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in composting techniques, as well as growing awareness of environmentally friendly organic waste management. This program had a positive impact by encouraging household-level composting practices, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and supporting sustainable land productivity at the nagari.

Abstract

Drugs are dangerous chemicals that are used to diagnose physiological and pathophysiological systems, restore and improve health. The large number of cases found related to drug abuse is caused by a lack of knowledge about rational drug use, drug storage, and others. Based on this problem, one of the health workers who plays an important role is the pharmacist. “Apoteker Cilik” is a program that promoted by Regular KKN Phase I students at Universitas Andalas in 2025 as an effort to prevent drug abuse and branding the pharmacist profession from an early age. This activity includes the delivery of educational and interactive material regarding the introduction of the pharmacist profession, introduction to drugs, types of drugs, and DAGUSIBU by 2 presenters. At the end of the session, students filled out a questionnaire with the scoring results showing that of the 40 participants who attended, 97% had good knowledge regarding the material that had been presented.

Abstract

Nagari Cupak in Solok Regency possesses significant local potential, particularly in coconut and Solok rice commodities; however, their use has remained limited to household consumption and raw material sales. In addition, waste cooking oil produced by households and small businesses is often unmanaged, posing environmental risks. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the skills of PKK women in utilizing local resources and converting household waste into value-added products. The activities included the delivery of materials on producing traditional coconut cooking oil and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), followed by hands-on workshops on making waste-cooking-oil soap and rice-based solid soap. A participatory approach was implemented through lectures, discussions, and guided practice. The results show that participants gained an improved understanding of coconut oil processing and were able to independently produce waste-oil soap and rice soap with acceptable texture and aroma. Challenges encountered included limited equipment for VCO practice and difficulties during soap molding. Overall, the program successfully increased community knowledge, technical skills, and awareness of local resource utilization while opening opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurship based on simple, locally sourced products.

Abstract

Balai Panjang Village, Lareh Sago Halaban Subdistrict, Limapuluh Kota Regency, possesses significant potential in the agricultural and socio-economic sectors; however, its utilization remains limited due to structural and managerial constraints, particularly regarding the village’s economic institutions through the Jalur Gemilang Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMNag). This outreach program aims to enhance halal food security through community empowerment and the revitalization of the BUMNag. Activities were carried out through outreach, training in the processing of local agricultural products—such as banana nuggets and cookies—and guidance on agricultural innovations based on appropriate technology. The results of the activities demonstrate an increase in community knowledge regarding the diversification of local food products, the application of appropriate technology, and awareness of the importance of halal food security. Additionally, the community has become more capable of managing local products creatively and competitively. With the revitalization of the BUMNag, it is hoped that this institution can once again serve as a driving force for a self-reliant and sustainable village economy. These findings indicate that community empowerment through participatory approaches and appropriate technology can enhance local capacity in the development of a halal food-based economy.

Abstract

This outreach activity was conducted as part of a fieldwork course at SDN 07 Simpang Utara, Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. The activity aimed to provide an understanding of bullying through psychoeducation. Psychoeducation serves as a preventive measure before the emergence of psychological issues that have negative impacts on individuals or groups. The activity involved 30 students from grades 4 and 5 and was held in January 2026. The method used was psychoeducation, conducted in three sessions: the first session involved presenting material through lectures and discussions; the second was a sharing session; and the third was a story-writing session, where students wrote stories to be posted on a “story tree” to be displayed at the school. This activity resulted in an increased understanding among students regarding the forms, impacts, and ways to avoid bullying, as well as an increase in students’ courage to express their feelings. Psychoeducation can serve as an effective preventive strategy to reduce bullying behavior in elementary school environments.
