Abstract

Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, which can increase due to high purine intake or impaired renal excretion. Accumulation of uric acid in the body is at risk of causing joint inflammation and other metabolic disorders. Early detection and dietary education are strategic steps to prevent complications of hyperuricemia. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach by examining uric acid levels using POCT and education on managing purine consumption. The examination was carried out on 62 adult participants. Educational leaflets were delivered directly and individually to each participant. All participants had uric acid levels in the normal range (median 4.2 mg/dL), with the lowest value of 3.5 mg/dL and the highest 6.5 mg/dL. Most participants were women and were in the middle to elderly age group. Although no cases of hyperuricemia were identified, preventive education remains essential to maintain uric acid levels within optimal ranges and reduce future metabolic risks. Lifestyle interventions focusing on diet and hydration are critical for sustainable uric acid control and long-term health outcomes. Abstract

Community Service activities are a real form of students' social concern for their surroundings. This activity was carried out in Kampung Enam with the aim of sharing knowledge and skills with the community and students about how to turn seashell waste into handmade crafts that can be sold. We used a face-to-face approach through socialization and training, one of which was making wall decorations in the shape of flowers. Besides involving the local people, students also took part in this activity so they could develop economic independence. The results showed that seashell waste has promising potential, both economically and socially, especially if developed into small environmentally friendly businesses. Hopefully, activities like this can continue and become an example of how to develop local crafts and increase the income of the people around Kampung Enam, Tarakan.

Abstract

The UNS Community Service Program (KKN) Batch 68 was conducted from July to August 2025 in Jaten Village, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. This program focused on educating the community about the utilization of organic waste, particularly dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp.) peel, which is generally underutilized. Dragon fruit peel has the potential to be developed into functional food products as it contains fiber, vitamins, and pectin. Through the “Dragon Fruit Peel Waste Management into Sauce” workshop, participants were provided with knowledge and skills to process organic waste into value-added products while supporting household food security. The implementation methods included counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. The results showed an increase in community understanding of food waste management, improved skills in processing dragon fruit peel into sauce, and the establishment of communication networks among village cadres for program sustainability. This innovation also holds potential to be developed into micro-enterprises in the healthy food sector.

Abstract

Used cooking oil is a household waste that may pollute the environment and harm human health if disposed of or reused improperly. This community service program aimed to provide a waste management solution while enhancing the community’s economic skills through training on producing aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil. The implementation method included awareness sessions on the hazards of used cooking oil, technical training using a learning by doing approach, and assistance in production and marketing. A total of 30 participants from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) took part in the program. The results indicated improved knowledge and skills, the production of approximately 50 aromatherapy candles with lavender, rose, and vanilla scents, and the establishment of a community group committed to continuing independent production. The program contributed positively to the environment by reducing around 15 liters of waste oil per month and created new entrepreneurial opportunities for residents. Therefore, this initiative can serve as a sustainable community empowerment model based on circular economy principles.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance elementary school students’ awareness of healthy digital behavior through the socialization of social media ethics and responsible internet use. The method applied was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving students, teachers, and school stakeholders in an active, collaborative learning process. The program took place at MI Muhammadiyah, Pagentan District, on August 16, 2025, for three hours, including material presentation, case simulations, educational games, and reflective discussions. The results indicate an increased understanding of digital ethics, the emergence of critical attitudes toward gadget use, and the establishment of a “digital healthy class” commitment between teachers and students. Teachers acted as local leaders to sustain digital literacy values within learning activities. This activity demonstrates that a participatory approach effectively promotes behavioral transformation and fosters a culture of responsible digital awareness among elementary school students.
