Abstract

Reading is one of the four language skills that have an important role in daily life. The way andcharacteristics of asking questions (istifham) are influential in achieving the objective of reading comprehension of a text. The use of questions (istifham) also stimulates students to understand reading texts and foster their critical thinking. All Arabic teachers, especially those who teach reading skill, should understand and master a questioning strategy to ease comprehending the text. Hopefully, this study can be used as a confirmation of theory in the fact that there is a parallel line between the theory of istifham in the teaching of reading  skill, and the process of understanding the passage.

Abstract

This research aims to develop Arabic textbook material for the Junior High School level. It used a research and development approach that involves 10 steps. The research began with a survey to obtain empirical data related to the Arabic language learning in Junior High School. It found that (1) the competency standard concerning the application of linguistic elements that must be mastered by students was not clearly formulated; it was only a global formula included at the end of each main competencies and basic competencies determined by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in each semester in each class level. (2) The textbook authors depend much on their individual knowledge which tends to differ from one author to another. In this case, the main problem of language material is related to the lack of attention from the author in compiling textbooks systematically in accordance with the principles of gradation. This problem has helped create the impression that Arabic language is difficult to learn. (3) The textbooks developed in this study used linguistic materials that were arranged in stages with Transformational Grammar theory. This developmental study of linguistic material is a new model in developing textbooks.

Abstract

It is a common thing that there is a controversy over non-muslim leadership in the majority of muslims. Historically,  this issue has been long-standing and has always been debatable among experts from time to time. As the result of this issue,Ulamas are divided into two groups, one of them is forbid the non-muslim issue, but others permit. Indonesia, which has muslim as the most population often experience a collision related to the appointment of non-muslim leaders. Essentially, leadership is a mandate that must be mandated to those who can afford it. Indonesian law guarantees all its citizens to emerge as both muslim and non-muslim leaders. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the appointment of non-Muslim leaders with a semantic approach according to verses of the Qur'ân that textually prohibit muslims (believers) to appoint non-muslims as leaders. It is because of the words waliy and auliyā'which textually have the meaning as "protector and leader". This paper used semantic approach refers to the basic and relational meaning to make it fairer in interpreting the text.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum demands a paradigm shift in learning, process, and evaluation, including in HOTS, MOTS, LOTS-based assessments. Using an evaluative research design, this study aims to analyze the Arabic language test items in the UAMBN Madrasah Aliyah under LP. Ma'arif Kabupaten Jepara for the Academic Year 2018/2019. The analysis includes the design and approach used in preparing the test, the content (materials) of the test, and the categorization of the quality level of the test items in the 2013 Curriculum, i.e. HOTS, MOTS, or LOTS. The results showed that: first, the approach used in preparing the test was an integrative approach for multiple-choice test questions and a discrete-point test approach for essay test questions. Second, the content of the test included Arab and Indonesian culture and civilization, Muslim figures, language level, language rules, and sentence structure. Third, Arabic language test questions in UAMBN covered HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS questions. In the multiple-choice questions, 11 questions (27.5%) were included in the LOTS category, 10 questions (25%) in the MOTS category, and 19 questions (47.5%) in the HOTS category. Meanwhile, the essay questions, which presented 4 questions (80%) for the HOTS category and 1 question (20%) for the MOTS category, were considered less proportional. Overall, the format for the Arabic test in the UAMBN Madrasah Aliyah has been proportional because it has accommodated questions with the HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS categories.
