Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance on the financial performance of companies in Indonesia by considering innovation as a mediating variable and control variables, namely Earnings Per Share (EPS), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), and Assets Growth. This study uses secondary data from annual reports and sustainability reports of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analysis used multiple regression, mediation analysis, and control variable testing. The results show that ESG values do not have a significant effect on Return on Assets (ROA), either directly or through innovation as a moderating variable. In addition, the control variables show that EPS, DER, and asset growth have a more dominant effect on ROA than ESG values. These findings indicate that the benefits of ESG on financial performance may not be visible in the short term. In contrast, the integration strategy of ESG and traditional financial indicators needs to be improved to produce a significant impact. This study provides important insights for corporate sustainability strategies in developing countries.

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of the Female Labor Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) across 34 provinces in Indonesia from 2019 to 2023, utilizing secondary panel data from the Indonesian Statistics Agency (BPS). Guided by relevant labor economics theories and prior empirical studies, this research considers key socioeconomic factors, including Female Labor Force Participation Rate (FLFPR), Average Years of Schooling (AYS), Life Expectancy of Women, Marital Status of Women, and Adjusted Per Capita Expenditure. Panel data regression analysis is conducted using the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM), with model selection based on Chow and Hausman tests. Diagnostic tests are applied to address potential issues such as autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity, ensuring the robustness of results. Findings indicate that the FEM is the most suitable model, explaining 98.05% of the variation in FLFPR. Women's education, life expectancy, and per capita expenditure significantly influence FLFPR, while the marital status of women aged 20-24 does not show a significant impact. This unexpected result suggests the need for further exploration of regional and cultural differences in marriage and labor participation. Policy recommendations emphasize expanding educational access, improving healthcare services, and promoting women's economic independence. Future research should incorporate additional explanatory variables and alternative econometric approaches for a more comprehensive analysis.

Abstract

Merger is one of the strategies used for company expansion to maintain and/or develop the business. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Return on Assets (ROA), Net Profit Margin (NPM), Current Ratio (CR), and Total Asset Turnover (TATO) before and after the merger of PT Selamat Sempurna Tbk and PT Selamat Sempana Perkasa. This research employs a quantitative comparative method, comparing pre- and post-merger financial data. The study uses a time series sample for a period of 2 years (2020-2022) before the merger and 2 years (2022-2024) after the merger, sourced from the official IDX website (www.idx.co.id) and the PT Selamat Sempurna Tbk website (https://smsm.co.id/). Data analysis was conducted using both the paired sample t-test and the Wilcoxon test. The paired t-test is suitable for comparing the means of normally distributed data, while the Wilcoxon test is used for non-parametric data when the normality assumption is not met. The selection of both tests ensures robustness in handling different data characteristics. The results show significant differences in the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and Net Profit Margin (NPM) before and after the merger. However, no significant differences were found in Return on Assets (ROA), Current Ratio (CR), and Total Asset Turnover (TATO). This lack of change in certain ratios may indicate that the merger, while impactful in terms of financial leverage (DER) and profitability (NPM), did not substantially affect the operational efficiency (TATO) or overall profitability (ROA), possibly due to the nature or scale of the merger. This study can inform policy decisions for related agencies and contribute to the development of corporate financial management, particularly in the analysis of key financial ratios such as DER, ROA, NPM, CR, and TATO.

Abstract

This research aims to empirically test the effect of the characteristics of local government, namely regional size, regional wealth, fiscal dependence, and regional spending, as well as the results of BPK audits including audit findings and audit opinions on the performance of local government administration in Papua and West Papua provinces. This research used data from 40 eligible regencies/cities in those provinces out of 42. According to the results of the findings, each indicator measuring local government characteristics was measured through the ratio of fixed assets to total assets, the ratio of locally generated revenue (PAD) to total regional income, the ratio of balancing funds to total regional income, in addition to capital expenditure-to-total regional expenditure ratio, significantly affected the performance of local government administration, as did audit results from the BPK; which in this case are assessed through the ratio of BPK findings against the total regional expenditures, as well as audit opinions on a four-point scale. Regional wealth, fiscal dependence, and audit opinions all have a positive and significant impact on local government performance. In contrast, regional size and regional expenditure, which were expected to exert a positive impact, have a negative but statistically non-significant effect. Audit findings also show a negative impact, but this relationship is statistically insignificant. This study contributes to the understanding of the financial and audit-related variables affecting governance performance in the context of Papua and West Papua.

Abstract

Regulations regarding mahram and the prohibition of intermarriage in Samosir Batak society are some of the important aspects that influence social life and marriage. The clan in the Samosir Batak tradition has a very central position, so the prohibition on intermarriage within the clan is regulated to maintain the purity of the lineage and social harmony. In Islamic law, the prohibition on intermarriage can be analogous to the prohibition against mahram, namely people who are forbidden to marry because of blood or marriage relations. This research aims to examine the relationship between mahram in Islamic law and the prohibition of intermarriage in Samosir Batak custom, as well as explore the similarities and differences between the two. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a normative approach. The research results show that there are similar goals between the two systems in protecting offspring and family honor. However, there are differences in determining which parties are considered mahram and semarga. This research suggests that there should be a deeper understanding of these two systems to create a balance between religious and customary law in Samosir Batak society. Even though there are differences in determining who is considered a mahram in Islamic law and who is considered a clan in Samosir Batak custom, these two systems have the same goals of maintaining family honor, protecting legitimate descendants, and preventing marriage within a close lineage. Socialization and Education require more intensive outreach efforts regarding the differences and similarities between mahram in Islamic law and the prohibition on intermarriage in Samosir Batak custom. This is important to provide a clear understanding to the community, especially the younger generation so that they can live their religious and traditional lives in harmony.
