Abstract

The community service program was conducted to improve elderly health through early screening and education on Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in Karangbong Village, Pajarakan District, Probolinggo Regency. A total of 25 participants aged 55–70 years underwent random blood glucose (RBG) testing and health education interventions. The results showed that 60% had normal glucose levels, while 36% were categorized as prediabetes and 4% as DM. The educational intervention significantly enhanced knowledge, with the proportion of participants in the “good” category increasing from 20% to 44% and the “poor” category decreasing from 52% to 20%. Nevertheless, 56% of participants remained at moderate to poor knowledge levels, indicating the need for more interactive educational methods, family involvement, and continuous mentoring. This program demonstrates that early screening is effective in identifying health risks among the elderly, while lifestyle modification, regular monitoring, and community support are crucial to prevent complications. The model can be adapted for elderly health services such as posyandu lansia to strengthen promotive and preventive strategies against chronic diseases.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge of posyandu cadres in monitoring toddler growth and development through leaflet-based health education. A total of 12 cadres participated in the activity using a one group pre-test post-test design, with questionnaires adapted from the Ministry of Health guidelines and previous studies. The pre-test results showed that 41.6% of cadres had poor knowledge, while after the intervention there was a significant improvement, with 83.3% categorized as having good knowledge. The average score increased from 60 to 85, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.005). The use of leaflets combined with direct counseling proved effective in enhancing cadres’ understanding, although variations remained due to differences in educational background, experience, and limited time allocation. This program highlights the importance of empowering cadres as the frontline in early detection of growth and development disorders, while continuous mentoring and supervision by health professionals are essential to ensure optimal and sustainable monitoring practices.

Abstract

Early adolescence represents a critical developmental stage characterized by rapid physical, hormonal, and psychological changes. These transitions often trigger anxiety, confusion, and misconceptions among students, particularly when accurate and age-appropriate reproductive health information is limited. At SMP Negeri 2 Glenmore, preliminary observations revealed that many ninth-grade students lacked basic knowledge about puberty, such as nocturnal emissions among boys or the normal menstrual cycle among girls. This community service program aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the edutainment approach in improving adolescents’ reproductive health knowledge. The intervention combined short lectures delivered in everyday language, small group discussions, interactive quizzes, and an anonymous question box to create a safe and engaging learning environment. A total of 42 students participated, and their knowledge was assessed using a 20-item questionnaire with established validity (0.71–0.89) and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.85). Results demonstrated a substantial improvement: the proportion of students with good knowledge increased from 14.3% to 88.1%, with mean scores rising from 10.1 to 16.7. The highest gain was observed in the personal hygiene domain (+75%), followed by psychological aspects and risk-prevention behaviors. Anonymous questions revealed students’ genuine concerns, ranging from physiological changes to moral perceptions, underscoring the importance of open and non-judgmental communication. The findings suggest that edutainment is not only effective but also practical, low-cost, and replicable as a routine program within school counseling and health units. In conclusion, reproductive health education delivered through edutainment fosters knowledge, confidence, and healthy attitudes among adolescents, making it a valuable strategy for sustainable school-based health promotion

Abstract

Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that can cause casualties and material losses if not accompanied by adequate preparedness. Higher education institutions are vulnerable to disaster emergencies; therefore, efforts to improve disaster preparedness capacity through the Disaster-Safe Campus Program are necessary. This community service activity aimed to improve participants’ knowledge, preparedness, and skills in facing earthquake disasters through education and roleplay-based emergency response simulations. The activity was conducted at STIKES Hutama Abdi Husada Tulungagung involving 87 participants consisting of 5th semester of Bachelor of Nursing, the Student Executive Board (BEM), and the Ringinpitu Village community in collaboration with Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah. The methods included pre-test, disaster preparedness education, demonstrations, earthquake emergency response simulations, victim management, trauma healing, and post-test. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills after participating in the education and simulation activities. Most participants also stated that the activity was highly beneficial in improving their understanding and preparedness for earthquake disasters. The roleplay-based simulation provided more realistic learning experiences, enabling participants to practice self-rescue actions, victim evacuation, and disaster response coordination directly. This activity is expected to support the development of a disaster-aware culture and improve community preparedness within the campus and surrounding community.
