Abstract

Low student learning outcomes are caused by a learning process that is still dominated by teachers. As a result, students only receive and memorize the delivered information, with limited opportunities to actively and creatively engage in the process of discovering knowledge independently. Therefore, selecting an appropriate learning model that aligns with the concepts and materials taught significantly influences the learning process. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the discovery learning model on the learning outcomes of Grade X students in environmental change material at SMA St. Arnoldus Janssen Kupang. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The specific research design used is the nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of Grade XA students as the experimental class, applying the discovery learning model, and Grade XB students as the control class, using direct instruction. Data analysis techniques include descriptive and inferential analyses. The results show that the discovery learning model effectively improves student learning outcomes. This is evident from the pretest average score of 52.8, which increased to 89 in the posttest. Based on the ANCOVA test, the significance value was 0.001 < 0.05. From these findings, it can be concluded that the discovery learning model significantly impacts the learning outcomes of Grade X students in environmental change material at SMA St. Arnoldus Janssen Kupang.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students in science learning, particularly biology, are due to the perception that biology material is difficult and boring. One way to improve students' learning outcomes is by using the guided inquiry learning model. This study aims to determine the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on the learning outcomes of Grade VII students in the topic of interactions between living organisms and their environment at SMPK St. Agustinus Adisucipto Penfui Kupang. The sample for this research consisted of Grade VII C students as the experimental class, using the guided inquiry learning model, and Grade VII D students as the control class, using the direct instruction model. The type of research employed was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The research design used was the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the study showed that the average learning mastery of students in the experimental class had a pretest score of 53.23 and a posttest score of 81.61, with an N-Gain of 0.60, categorized as high. Meanwhile, the control class had an average pretest score of 45.5 and a posttest score of 72.5, with an N-Gain of 0.48, categorized as moderate. Based on the ANCOVA test results, the significance value was 0.001 < 0.05, which led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Thus, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry learning model significantly affects the learning outcomes of Grade VII students in the topic of interactions between living organisms and their environment at SMPK St. Agustinus Adisucipto Penfui Kupang.

Abstract

Learning models are techniques used to facilitate children in understanding the material delivered by the instructor. The learning model provided by the teacher to students ensures that their understanding aligns with the material and theme selected. This study aims to measure students' creativity and to determine significant differences in creativity levels between the experimental and control classes before and after applying the Project-Based Learning model and the Guided Discovery Learning model. This research employs an experimental method in the form of a quasi-experimental design. The design used is the nonequivalent control group design, which involves comparing subjects in the control group and the experimental group through pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the study show that students' creativity in the experimental class had an average pre-test score of 53.97, an average post-test score of 84.82, and an N-Gain result of 0.65, categorized as moderate. In the control class, students' creativity had an average pre-test score of 51.63, an average post-test score of 76.06, and an N-Gain result of 0.45, also categorized as moderate. There was a significant difference in students' creativity levels after learning with the Project-Based Learning model using a herbarium book on Pteridophyta material compared to the control group using the Guided Discovery Learning model through plant observation, with a 2-tailed significance value of 0.000 ≤ 0.005. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
