Abstract

Abstract

Village fund management in Indonesia is still an unresolved issue, proportionally from the beginning of the reform to post-reform; interestingly, this problem is still seen in the analysis from 2019 to 2023, which suggests that accountability practices have not been entirely managed. Although this urgency has a dream in grassroots development, some barriers weaken its effectiveness. Then, our study adopted a quantitative descriptive methodology based on secondary data from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia. The analysis revealed these barriers were limited administrative capacity, regulatory rigidity, ineffective monitoring systems, political interference, and inadequate community participation. Our findings demonstrate that despite the progress made, inconsistencies in accountability practices persist, so we advocate that central-local governments emphasize (e.g., capacity building, regulatory flexibility, technology-based monitoring, policy synchronization, and enlarged community participation). Finally, this study concludes that consistency of accountability in village fund management needs to be concretized proportionally, with several empirical recommendations suggested for consideration in village fund management, especially for formulating an effective practice on adaptive, inclusive, and innovative rural development.

Abstract

Abstract

Addressing rural underdevelopment has been a major challenge to the Nigerian government since independence.  To that extent, previous initiatives were created to address it. However, they failed to yield the desired positive outcomes, necessitating further refinement of robust initiatives that would address this challenge, until the Community and Social Development Projects (CSDPs) were established. This initiative was designed to address the challenge that the previous initiatives encountered, namely, centrism that obscured community participation and project sustainability. This study, therefore, aimed to examine the extent to which communities participated in the CSDPs and whether their participation contributed to project sustainability in Edo State, Nigeria. The study utilised an in-depth interview method to elicit responses from 109 participants across the selected communities in the state. The study found that the communities were involved in both the planning and implementation stages of the project execution. Their involvement translated into efforts at sustaining the projects, namely in providing funds and manual skills such as clearing weeds around the projects and cleaning and maintaining them. The study, therefore, recommends that there should be sustainable mechanisms for checking continued maintenance of projects, greater government involvement in project sustainability, and improved and sustained women's involvement in community participation in CSDP in rural communities of Edo State, and by extension, Nigeria.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health problems in Indonesia and is not only related to nutrition. Various studies show that family relationships, especially gender inequality, have a significant influence on women's ability to care for their children's health. This study aims to present women's voices in the narrative of stunting through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) analyzed using R. W. Connell's Gender and Power theory. This study analyzed 17 articles that met the PRISMA criteria, which were analyzed thematically to understand gender dynamics in families, ranging from gender-based division of labor, gender-based division of power, and cathexis that shapes women's everyday experiences of stunting. The results of the study show that gender inequality between women and men in the family plays an important role in the risk of stunting. Women are responsible for the entire domestic burden and child care, while men tend to occupy the position of primary decision-makers regarding health and the allocation of family resources. Women's limited autonomy in determining family spending and children's nutritional needs has an impact on the quality of care received by children. Women experience a paradox in their efforts to break free from shackles so that they have autonomy, but on the other hand, children are at risk of stunting because they do not receive care from women. In addition, women's acceptance of family responsibilities has an emotional context that perpetuates unequal relations between women and men in the family. There is power in the relationships built between women and men in the family, which is perpetuated by tradition and norms. Interventions must not only increase women's capacity but also involve men in strengthening women's autonomy, which limits women's roles and agency. Presenting women's experiences as the center of analysis contributes to a comprehensive understanding of stunting from a socio-cultural perspective, not just a health perspective.

Abstract

Setelah penghapusan duplikat, diperoleh 818 dokumen unik (1987–Maret 2026).
