Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the ability of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at the State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga to identify research problems, an important prerequisite for thesis writing. This is based on their low initial ability to formulate issues and theories, write systematically, and identify research gaps in the background, which creates an urgent need for structured technical support to bridge the gap between sharp problem identification and the systematic preparation of a logical, structured thesis background. The realization of the activity was carried out through Technical Guidance for one hour and thirty minutes, involving 21 final year PAI students at UIN Salatiga, with the focus of the material on variable analysis, techniques for dissecting the state of the art, and strategies for compiling a logical flow that culminates in the formulation of a strong research gap. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in the quality of the participants' thesis background draft, with students identifying research problems more specifically and logically, and supporting them with adequate arguments. This community service activity concludes that Technical Guidance in thesis background preparation is a highly effective and relevant method for improving PAI students' ability to identify research problems, thereby directly expediting the completion of their studies at UIN Salatiga.

Abstract

Used cooking oil is no longer needed after cooking, but it can still be used as a basic ingredient for making soap; if thrown away directly, it can potentially pollute the environment. Community service aims to provide useful information and practical experience to Loto Village PKK members in using used cooking oil and cloves as aromatic ingredients for making non-cosmetic soap. The activity was carried out on October 20 2025, in Loto Village, West Ternate District, Ternate City, involving 25 homemakers who were members of the PKK. The activities used a community participation approach through initial interviews, socialisation, tutorials, direct practice, discussions, and evaluation. Participants learned about the use of used cooking oil, the principles of soap making, and the stages of processing used cooking oil into aromatic soap using the cold process method. The results showed that most participants had no previous experience making soap but were interested in participating and gaining practical experience in preparing ingredients, processing used cooking oil, mixing ingredients, adding cloves as a local aromatic ingredient, and printing soap. The joint practice produced 20 pieces of aromatic soap, which the participants then took home. Documentation of activities also produced videos that have received copyright registration. This activity provides practical experience and increases participants' awareness regarding alternatives to using used cooking oil as household waste. However, this knowledge was not assessed quantitatively, only descriptively, because no pretest, posttest, or evaluation questionnaire was administered after the activity.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity was conducted to enhance the tourism area's function as a space for public education and literacy. The project partner was Eduwisata KK26, an environmentally focused tourism destination in Olean Village, Situbondo Regency, managed by the Olean Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), which consists of 14 members. Despite its strong tourism potential—attracting approximately 500–800 visitors monthly, predominantly kindergarten and elementary school children—the area lacked sufficient literacy and educational facilities, creating a need for innovations to support community learning activities. Implementation involved partner coordination, site surveys, needs assessment, designing and laying out a reading space, procuring supporting facilities, providing reading materials, deploying a digital E-Catalog via Smart TV, outreach, manager training, mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation. The initiative successfully established the "Green Reading Park" (Taman Baca Hijau) as a comfortable, educational, and eco-friendly literacy space within the Eduwisata KK26 area. Facilities include a reading area, bookshelves, reading tables, greenery, a collection of reading materials, information boards, and a digital E-Catalog that facilitates easy access to information about the collection. An evaluation involving 30 respondents yielded an average score of 3.08 out of 4.00 (categorized as "good"), with the highest scores recorded for ease of access and the enhancement of the area's tourism appeal. The activity successfully improved public access to reading resources, optimized the use of green open space, and strengthened the role of Eduwisata KK26 as a destination centered on literacy and environmental awareness. Program sustainability is supported through ongoing management by Pokdarwis, facility maintenance, collection updates, and the development of partnership networks with various stakeholders.
