Abstract

Halal label is a sign of product halal status. Label halal is required to include in products that have received halal certification. Among the products that are required to carried a halal label are cosmetics and herbal medicines. Law number 42 of 2024 issued by government Indonesia concerning guanranteed halal products, that not all products in Indonesia are guaranteed to be halal. The regulation also states that Indonesia is obligade to provide protection and guarantees regarding halal status of product consume and used by the public. Cosmetic and herbal medicine are the products that musch used by the indonesian public. According to the survey, make-up and personal care ranked fourth (16.4%) as the most frequently purchased item by respondents when shopping online in 2022. In this current modern era, there has been shift in the way consumer purchase products. Purchases are No. longer made offline bu go to direct stores, instead buyers and sellers transact through digital platform (e-commerce) rather than meeting face to face. Before deciding to purchase a product, consumer have several consideration in choosing product, whether is jeeds, desires or whether is influenced by external factors. This study aims to determine whether consumer knowledge regarding halal labels on cosmetic and herbal medicine products influence purchasing decisions through e-commerce. The method used is quantitative descriptive, data collection through questionnaires. Data analysis used linear regression. The number of respondents was 100 people who had purchased cosmetic or herbal medicine products in online marketplaces domiciled in Surabaya. Data analysis shows that consumer knowledge regarding halal labels influences consumer purchasing decisions in online marketplaces, meaning that increasing consumer knowledge regarding halal labels will increase product purchases in online marketplaces.

Abstract

Forest honey is a natural product derived from the nectar of wild plants and is known to contain various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and phenolics, which contribute to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential. Buton Regency in Southeast Sulawesi is recognized as a producer of forest honey; however, scientific studies on its biological activities remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the free radical scavenging activity and anti-inflammatory effects of Buton forest honey through both in vitro and in vivo approaches. Antioxidant activity was assessed using DPPH and ABTS assays, while anti-inflammatory evaluation involved inhibition of BSA protein denaturation and a mouse ear edema model induced by xylene. The honey exhibited IC₅₀ values of 71.69 ± 2.73 mg/L (DPPH) and 49.23 ± 4.24 mg/L (ABTS). Its protein denaturation inhibition showed an IC₅₀ of 14.17 ± 3.18 mg/L. In vivo testing demonstrated that high-dose honey significantly reduced ear thickness in mice, with a percentage of inhibition comparable to diclofenac sodium. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) across most parameters. These findings indicate that Buton forest honey holds promise as a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Foot odor is a prevalent issue resulting from excessive perspiration and bacterial proliferation in moist environments. This research aimed to optimize the formulation of a lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Miller.) essential oil foot spray gel by varying the concentration of Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent. In this laboratory-based experimental study, three formulations were developed containing 0.3%, 0.5%, and 0.7% Carbopol 940. Evaluations involved organoleptic assessment, homogeneity, pH measurement, viscosity testing, spreadability, adhesion, and stability evaluation through cycling tests. All formulations fell within the skin’s pH range (4.5–6.5) and demonstrated good homogeneity. Findings indicated that higher Carbopol 940 concentrations increased viscosity while reducing spreadability. The 0.5% Carbopol 940 formulation provided the optimal balance between viscosity, spreadability, and physical stability. Cycling test results confirmed that this formulation remained stable without notable changes in physical characteristics. It is concluded that the optimal lavender essential oil foot spray gel formulation was achieved at a Carbopol 940 concentration of 0.5%. Abstract

This study aimed to formulate a peel-off gel mask containing Fuji apple (Malus domestica) peel extract with various concentrations of PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) and to evaluate its stability and physical properties. Peel-off gel masks are known for their ability to help combat free radicals. Fuji apple peel was selected due to its high antioxidant content, such as flavonoids, quercetin, and other phenolic compounds that can effectively neutralize free radicals and promote skin health. The extraction of Fuji apple peel was performed using maceration with 70% ethanol as the solvent. The peel-off gel mask formulations were prepared with PVA concentrations of 10%, 12.5%, and 15%. The formulated masks were evaluated for their organoleptic properties, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, drying time, stability (Cycling Test), and irritation potential. The results showed that all formulations met the required standards for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, drying time, and showed no irritation. Formulations containing 12.5% and 15% PVA demonstrated optimal physical stability with acceptable viscosity, pH, and spreadability, along with a comfortable texture when applied to the skin. Based on these findings, Fuji apple peel extract can be formulated into a stable and safe peel-off gel mask at PVA concentrations of 12.5% and 15%.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains a global concern even though the international emergency status has been lifted. The resurgence of cases in several regions and the emergence of new variants indicate that this disease still has the potential to cause another wave of infections. This study aims to determine the relationship between the severity of COVID-19 and clinical outcomes in patients receiving remdesivir therapy. This study aims to determine the relationship between the severity of COVID-19 and clinical outcomes in patients receiving remdesivir therapy. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design using secondary data from medical records of hospitalized COVID-19 patients receiving remdesivir therapy. Clinical outcomes were determined by assessing the improvement in the patient's clinical condition, length of hospitalization, and mortality in patients. Analysis was performed using the chi-square test to examine the relationship between severity and clinical outcomes. The results showed that patients with mild and moderate severity had a higher rate of clinical improvement than severe/critical patients (100%, 94.9% vs 59.4%; p<0.001). Length of hospitalization was also shorter in mild and moderate patients compared to severe/critical, with the proportion of stays ≤14 days of 100%, 92.4%, and 69.5%, respectively (p<0.001). In addition, the mortality rate was higher in severe/critical patients at 41.6%, while in mild and moderate patients the proportion of patients who did not experience death was higher (100% and 96.6%; p<0.001). This study concluded that disease severity was closely related to the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients receiving remdesivir therapy, where the effectiveness of therapy was higher in patients with mild to moderate conditions.

Abstract

Introduction: Mosquitoes can transmit various diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and filariasis. DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-Toluamide) is commonly used as a repellent, but it has the potential to cause irritation. Essential oils from various plants have high efficacy as mosquito repellents, such as nutmeg essential oil(Myristica fragrans) with 20% efficacy and lemongrass essential oil (Cymbopogon nardus L.) with 10% efficacy. Both of these essential oils can be formulated into repellent patches, a practical adhesive formulation that slowly releases the active ingredients. Formula optimization was conducted using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method to obtainthe best combination. Objectives: To investigate the optimum concentration of nutmeg and citronella essential oil as repellent patch preparation using Simplex Lattice Design method. Method: This study is an experimental study. Samples were obtained from the market and then formulated using the SLD method, where the concentration of essential oils ranged from 0-20%. After that, patch preparations were made, and the resulting preparations were then evaluated to assess characteristics including organoleptic testing, pH, effectiveness, weight uniformity, patch thickness, fold resistance, moisture content, irritation test, and hedonic test. The responses were then re-entered into the SLD, and the optimal value was determined based on the desirability value obtained. Results: The test results meet the requirements, with the following data obtained: in the organoleptic test, it has a yellowish-white color, with an essential oil aroma and smooth texture, pH 5.7-6.86, weight uniformity 0.342-0.459 g, thickness of 0.6–1.00 mm, fold resistance >200, moisture content of 5.88–8.33%, irritation (–), the most preferred hedonic formulas being 1 and 3, and a reaction time ranging from 3.5 to 4 hours. Conclusion: The repellency result obtained was 4 hours and the optimum concentration in formula 1 (0:20%) with a desirability value of 0.872.

Abstract

Gagal ginjal kronik merupakan penyakit menahun yang menyebabkan kerusakan ginjal secara bertahap sehingga dapat mengganggu keseimbangan cairan maupun elektrolit dalam tubuh. Pasien CKD, terutama yang menjalani terapi hemodialisis, umumnya mengalami perubahan kualitas hidup akibat banyak faktor yang dapat memicu depresi, sehingga mereka dituntut untuk beradaptasi dengan kondisi fisiknya. Pembiayaan untuk penyakit gagal ginjal kronik menempati urutan kedua terbesar dalam beban biaya BPJS Kesehatan, setelah penyakit jantung. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis kualitas hidup dan biaya medis langsung pasien rawat inap gagal ginjal kronik di Rumah Sakit Universitas Hasanuddin. Jenis penelitian ini berupa survei dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan penelitian observasional prospektif dengan menggunakan data rekam medik. Teknik sampling yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah convenience sampling. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 26 sampel. Hasil penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa kualitas hidup pasien rawat inap gagal ginjal kronik dapat terjadi karena beberapa faktor yaitu usia, jenis kelamin, pekerjaan, stadium CKD, durasi HD, frekuensi HD, dan komorbid pasien. Berdasarkan perbedaan biaya rill dan biaya tarif INA-CBGs yang memiliki perbedaan dapat disimpulkan bahwa biaya medis yang dikeluarkan rumah sakit untuk merawat pasien melebihi jumlah yang dibayar BPJS kesehatan berdasarkan tarif paket INA-CBGs. Hal ini dapat terjadi karena komorbid pasien yang butuh pemeriksaan, obat, atau prosedur tambahan lainnya mahal. Sedangkan, untuk pasien VIP harus membayar selisih biaya antara tarif INA CBGs dengan kelas BPJS kesehatan. Kata kunci : Biaya Medis Langsing, Penyakit Ginjal Kronik, Kualitas Hidup

Abstract

Dandruff is a common issue caused by the overgrowth of Malassezia furfur on the scalp. This study aims to develop a safe antidandruff shampoo formulation based on lyophilized noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia L.) and evaluate its effectiveness in combating dandruff. The lyophilized noni fruit was tested for its antifungal activity at five concentrations: 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%, and then formulated into shampoo in three concentrations: F1 (6%), F2 (8%), and F3 (10%). The effectiveness of the shampoo formulations was tested against Malassezia furfur using the agar diffusion method. The safety of the formulations was also evaluated using the HET-CAM method to ensure their non-irritating properties. The results indicated that lyophilized noni fruit exhibited significant antifungal activity, with the largest inhibition zone observed at 10% concentration (23.16 ± 5.36 mm), which was not significantly different from the positive control (ketoconazole). Additionally, the HET-CAM test showed no irritation for all formulations, with an irritation score of 0. This study concludes that lyophilized noni fruit shampoo can serve as an effective and safe natural alternative for dandruff treatment.

Abstract

Lantana camara L. is a tropical plant from the Verbenaceae family that is widely known for its invasive nature, but also has high ethnomedicinal value. This study aims to examine the phytochemical profile and potential pharmacological activities of L. camara plants based on the latest scientific data. The study method uses a literature study approach to scientific literature from the Scopus database in the period 2015–2025 with keywords related to the phytochemistry and pharmacology of L. camara. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to identify the main bioactive compounds and their biological activities. The results of the study indicate that L. camara contains triterpenoids, flavonoids, phenolics, and iridoid glycosides that play an important role in various pharmacological activities, including antidiabetic, anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective. Compounds such as ursolic acid, lantadene A and B, and quercetin-3-O-glucoside are reported to have significant biological effects through different molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, the potential use of L. camara in nanoparticle synthesis shows broad application prospects in the pharmaceutical and industrial fields. In conclusion, L. camara is a promising natural bioactive source for modern drug development and sustainable therapeutic applications.

Abstract

Hiperurisemia merupakan faktor utama penyebab gout yang berkaitan dengan peningkatan kadar asam urat akibat produksi berlebih maupun gangguan ekskresi. Enzim xanthine oxidase (XO) berperan penting dalam pembentukan asam urat sehingga menjadi target utama dalam terapi gout. Review ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis tanaman obat yang memiliki aktivitas penghambatan enzim xanthine oxidase (XO) serta potensi terapinya dalam penanganan hiperurisemia dan gout. Pencarian literatur dilakukan menggunakan metode literature review dengan menelusuri artikel yang dipublikasikan pada periode 2020- 2025. Database yang digunakan meliputi Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, dan Google Scholar. Artikel yang diseleksi membahas aktivitas penghambatan XO oleh tanaman obat berdasarkan uji in vitro dan in vivo. Sebanyak 23 tanaman obat teridentifikasi memiliki aktivitas penghambatan XO yang signifikan. Senyawa aktif seperti chrysin (Piper sarmentosum), limonene (Pistacia chinensis), andrographolide (Andrographis paniculata), dan morin (Maclura cochinchinensis) menunjukkan potensi tinggi, bahkan pada beberapa studi melebihi allopurinol. Mekanisme kerja tanaman obat tidak hanya melalui inhibisi XO langsung, tetapi juga melibatkan modulasi transporter asam urat ginjal seperti URAT1, GLUT9, OAT1, dan ABCG2. Selain itu, aktivitas antioksidan dan anti-inflamasi melalui penekanan jalur NF-κB dan NLRP3 turut berkontribusi, yang sering disertai dengan efek perlindungan ginjal dan hati. Dengan mekanisme kerja yang bersifat multi-target dan profil keamanan yang lebih baik, tanaman obat berpotensi menjadi alternatif terapi gout, meskipun uji klinis lanjutan masih diperlukan.
