Abstract

Abstract: Entering young adulthood involves significant role transitions and increasing responsibilities that require effective psychological adaptation. For individuals raised in single-parent families, limited parental support and the absence of one parental figure may pose additional challenges to psychological well-being. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of self-compassion in promoting psychological well-being among young adults from single-parent families. This study employed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional design, with data collected through self-report questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression. A total of 130 young adults from single-parent families participated in the study through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that self-compassion significantly contributes to psychological well-being (p < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.481, indicating that self-compassion accounts for 48.1% of the variance in psychological well-being. Both self-compassion and psychological well-being were found to be at moderate levels among participants. These results suggest that fostering self-compassion may serve as an effective internal resource to support psychological well-being in young adults facing family-related adversities. The originality of this study lies in its focus on young adults raised by a single parent due to parental loss, highlighting self-compassion as a key protective factor within this specific population and contributing empirical evidence to the growing literature on positive psychological resources in vulnerable family contexts.

Abstract

Abstract: Diabetes-related foot wounds can deteriorate into infection and diabetic gangrene, increasing amputation risk when self-care and timely management are inadequate. Objective: This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of patient education in improving knowledge and wound-care adherence among individuals with diabetic gangrene and related diabetic foot conditions and identified delivery features most likely to support sustained self-care. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar (2015–2025) using PRISMA-consistent screening. Eligible evidence included primary quantitative/qualitative studies, systematic reviews, and clinical guidelines addressing patient education/health promotion with knowledge and/or adherence outcomes. Primary studies were appraised using the JBI critical appraisal checklist. Findings: Patient education was consistently associated with improved diabetic foot-care knowledge and, in several studies, better wound-care adherence. Interactive and audiovisual approaches (e.g., video, counseling with demonstration) tended to outperform passive print materials. Sustained adherence was more strongly supported when education was reinforced through mHealth/reminders and when family/caregiver involvement addressed motivational and practical barriers. Implications: Diabetic wound-care programs should emphasize structured, skills-based and audiovisual education, reinforced through follow-up or digital supports, and integrate family-centered components to improve long-term adherence and reduce progression to severe complications. Originality: This review clarifies which educational features modality, reinforcement, and social support are most plausibly linked to sustained adherence, providing a practical framework for designing scalable education strategies for diabetic foot disease, including diabetic gangrene.

Abstract

This study aims to review the effectiveness of health promotion interventions in preventing urolithiasis between 2020 and 2025 and to examine their contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, considering the high recurrence of urolithiasis and its strong association with lifestyle-related risk factors. A narrative literature review was conducted using secondary data from articles published between 2020 and 2025, retrieved from Google Scholar, GARUDA, and university journal portals. Selected studies were analysed descriptively and thematically to identify intervention types and outcomes. The findings indicate that health promotion interventions effectively improve knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviours related to urolithiasis. Community- and school-based programs enhanced awareness of adequate hydration, healthy dietary patterns, and water-consumption habits, demonstrating their preventive impact. Health promotion represents a practical and cost-effective strategy for urolithiasis prevention and supports broader non-communicable disease prevention efforts aligned with SDG 3. The integration of digital health approaches is recommended to strengthen sustainability and long-term behavioural change. This review provides a focused synthesis of post-2020 evidence on preventive health promotion strategies for urolithiasis, offering context-specific insights that extend beyond clinical management and contribute to public health practice.

Abstract

Social isolation is a major nursing problem among patients with schizophrenia and is characterized by withdrawal, reduced interaction, and impaired social functioning. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Group Activity Therapy in improving social interaction skills among patients with social isolation at UPT Bina Laras Pasuruan. A case study approach was employed involving five patients diagnosed with social isolation. Interventions were delivered over two weeks, with 30-minute sessions implementing the Nursing Action Implementation Strategy (SPTK) and six structured group activity sessions focusing on self-introduction, communication, cooperation, and recreational engagement. The results indicated substantial reductions in both major and minor symptoms of social isolation. From nine symptoms observed on day one, only two remained by day eleven limited eye contact and purposeless movements. Verbal and non-verbal communication improved progressively, demonstrated by the patients’ ability to introduce themselves, initiate conversations, maintain appropriate posture, and participate in group activities independently. Patients also appeared calmer and more cooperative following the intervention. In conclusion, Group Activity Therapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for enhancing social interaction, motivation, and interpersonal functioning in patients with schizophrenia experiencing social isolation. Its implementation is recommended as part of psychiatric nursing practice in mental rehabilitation settings.

Abstract

Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) is a cardiovascular emergency commonly characterized by dyspnea, orthopnea, use of accessory muscles, and reduced oxygen saturation. These manifestations arise from increased left ventricular pressure and pulmonary congestion, which lead to an ineffective breathing pattern. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining oxygen therapy using a nasal cannula and the Semi-Fowler position in improving the breathing pattern of patients with ADHF. A case study design was applied to three patients admitted to the ICCU of Kanjuruhan Hospital, Malang. The intervention consisted of administering oxygen at 4 L/min via nasal cannula along with positioning patients in Semi-Fowler at 30–45°, delivered consistently over three days. Respiratory parameters observed included dyspnea, orthopnea, use of accessory muscles, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation. The results demonstrated significant improvement beginning on the second day, marked by reduced dyspnea and orthopnea, absence of accessory muscle use, decreased respiratory rate toward the normal range, and increased oxygen saturation above 94%. On the third day, all patients achieved optimal improvement across all respiratory indicators. The combined intervention effectively reduced respiratory workload, enhanced lung expansion, and optimized ventilation–perfusion mechanisms. These findings indicate that simple and non-invasive measures, such as oxygen therapy and Semi-Fowler positioning, can serve as an effective standard nursing strategy for managing ineffective breathing patterns in ADHF patients in intensive care settings.

Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder with complex reproductive and metabolic consequences that remain insufficiently addressed by symptom-oriented management strategies. This study aims to review and synthesize recent evidence on the metabolic basis of PCOS, emphasizing the importance of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia as central mechanisms underlying both metabolic and reproductive abnormalities. A narrative review method was employed by analyzing peer-reviewed literature published in recent years, focusing on studies examining insulin signaling disturbances, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammatory pathways, and emerging therapeutic approaches in PCOS. The main findings indicate that insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia act as key drivers of PCOS across diverse phenotypes, including non-obese women, while mitochondrial dysfunction and chronic inflammation further amplify metabolic–reproductive impairment. The results also show that improvements in metabolic parameters do not consistently align with normalization of reproductive hormones, underscoring the heterogeneous and multifactorial nature of PCOS. These findings have important implications for clinical practice, supporting the adoption of personalized, mechanism-based management strategies that integrate metabolic profiling with reproductive goals. The originality of this review lies in its integrative metabolic–reproductive framework, which consolidates emerging mechanistic insights and novel therapeutic perspectives to reconceptualize PCOS as a systemic metabolic–reproductive disorder.

Abstract

Maternal nutrition during pregnancy is a critical entry point for stunting prevention, and husbands may influence pregnant women’s health behaviors through both knowledge and practical support, particularly when pregnant women are employed and face dual role demands; however, evidence on whether husbands’ knowledge translates into supportive behaviors remains limited in local clinical settings. This study aimed to examine the relationship between husbands’ knowledge and husbands’ support in the context of stunting prevention at RSIA Yasmin Palangka Raya using a quantitative descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from 30 respondents during antenatal care visits using structured questionnaires assessing husbands’ knowledge regarding pregnancy health and stunting prevention and husbands’ support across emotional, instrumental, and informational dimensions, and the association was tested using Spearman’s rank correlation (p < 0.05). Most husbands demonstrated good knowledge (93.3%) while husbands’ support was predominantly moderate (83.3%); the correlation between husbands’ knowledge and support was very weak and not statistically significant (r = 0.141; p = 0.458). These findings indicate that higher knowledge does not necessarily correspond to higher practical support, suggesting that stunting-prevention interventions should not only strengthen knowledge but also address practical constraints and sociocultural factors that shape husbands’ involvement.

Abstract

Asthma control is often suboptimal in routine care, and gaps in patient knowledge and medication adherence may contribute to poor control. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between patients’ asthma knowledge level and medication adherence with asthma control among adult patients attending the Pulmonary Clinic of Pasar Minggu Regional General Hospital. Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional design was used with consecutive sampling of 191 adult asthma patients. Data were collected using validated questionnaires: ACQ-5, AGKQ, and MMAS-8. Descriptive statistics summarized distributions, and Chi-square tests examined associations between knowledge and asthma control, and between adherence and asthma control. Findings: Most participants had uncontrolled asthma (56.0%), low asthma knowledge (55.0%), and low medication adherence (56.5%). Knowledge level was significantly associated with asthma control (p = 0.001), with uncontrolled asthma more prevalent in the low-knowledge group (70.5%) than the high-knowledge group (38.4%). Medication adherence was also significantly associated with asthma control (p = 0.001), with uncontrolled asthma more common among low adherence (67.6%) than moderate (41.4%) or high adherence (38.5%). Implications: Integrating structured education and adherence-support strategies into routine outpatient care may improve asthma control and reduce exacerbation risk. Originality: This study integrates asthma knowledge and medication adherence within the same analytic framework of asthma control in an Indonesian pulmonary-clinic population, providing context-specific evidence for targeted clinic-based interventions.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients by examining the roles of patients’ knowledge level and treatment duration within a TB DOTS clinical setting. Methodology: A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 89 pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the TB DOTS Clinic of Pasar Minggu Regional General Hospital. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and clinical records. Univariate analysis described respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test examined the relationships between study variables. Findings: The results showed that most patients demonstrated poor knowledge of tuberculosis and associated with levels of medication adherence. A statistically significant relationship was found between patients’ knowledge and medication adherence, indicating that higher knowledge levels were associated with better adherence. In contrast, treatment duration was not significantly associated with medication adherence. Implications: These findings highlight the importance of strengthening patient education within tuberculosis control programs, as improved knowledge may enhance adherence and support successful treatment outcomes. Originality: This study provides empirical evidence from a real-world DOTS clinical setting by integrating patient knowledge and treatment duration in adherence analysis. The findings demonstrate that patient knowledge may play a more influential role than treatment duration in shaping medication adherence, offering a patient-centered contribution to tuberculosis care research.
