Abstract

Giving thanks is a form of faith in God's promises, to give the best to people who already love him. Therefore, someone can give thanks because they have sensitivity to God's grace. Giving offerings is a form of giving thanks to God and a human responsibility that comes from the motivation in the heart to be grateful for God's actions in human life. One form of offering as thanksgiving to God is giving monthly devotion to the church. Monthly devotion is one of the offerings that has been established at GKPI. Monthly devotion itself is an obligation as a member of the church congregation and as a source of church income. This aims to continue service activities in the midst of the church. When the congregation gives offerings as its monthly service, the congregation gives thanks for what it receives from God through every work or other. However, the monthly service itself has rules that have been set by the GKPI Head Office to discipline the congregation and church. When a congregation does not follow the monthly service rules that have been determined, it can be said that the congregation is not obeying the rules. This is also one of the congregation's shortcomings in supporting existing services in the church. Meanwhile, this monthly devotion is an obligation as a member of the congregation.

Abstract

The Reformation led by Martin Luther in the 16th century was one of the most influential events in the history of the church and the Christian world. This research aims to analyze the impact of Martin Luther’s Reformation on the church and the Christian world as a whole. Luther, through his 95 Theses, challenged the authority of the Catholic Church, particularly regarding the sale of indulgences, and emphasized the doctrines of salvation by faith alone (sola fide) and the authority of Scripture alone (sola scriptura). The result of this movement was the emergence of Protestant Christian denominations, a deep division between Catholicism and Protestantism, and reforms within the Catholic Church known as the Counter-Reformation. This study employs historical methods, analyzing relevant primary and secondary documents to understand the theological, social, and political impacts of Luther’s Reformation. The Reformation also brought significant changes in education, liturgical languages, and the church’s role in the socio-political life of European society. Overall, Martin Luther’s Reformation triggered a transformation in the structure of the church and Christian society that persists into the modern era.

Abstract

Freedom of religion is a fundamental and internationally recognized human right, serving as an important foundation in creating a just society. This article explores religious freedom through the perspective of the encyclical Pacem in Terris issued by Pope John XXIII in 1963. In the document, the Pope affirms the right of every individual to worship God according to his conscience, both in private and in public. Although this freedom is guaranteed by the Indonesian constitution, its implementation often faces serious challenges such as intolerance and discrimination against minority groups. This article aims to examine the concept of religious freedom in the context of Pacem in Terris , focusing on articles 14, 35 and 36 of the encyclical, and its relevance to the current socio-political situation. Through an in-depth textual analysis of the encyclical and related literature, this article shows that the teachings of Pope John XXIII can serve as a guideline for strengthening tolerance and mutual respect among religious communities in Indonesia. Thus, this study is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of religious freedom as part of human rights and the role of the state in ensuring its implementation.

Abstract

the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, marking God's intervention in the history of His people and the beginning of a new grain harvest. On the other hand, Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a symbol of victory over sin and death, and the culmination of salvation provided through His sacrifice on the cross. In this context, the Eucharist becomes an important sacrament symbolizing the body and Passover and Easter have deep meanings in their respective religious traditions. Passover (Pesach) celebrates blood of Christ. The bread, as a symbol of His broken body, and the cup, as a symbol of His shed blood, remind Christians of God's infinite sacrifice and love. However, in the early days of Christianity, the practice of the Eucharist was often misunderstood, leading to accusations of cannibalism against Christians. This misunderstanding arose because the terms "body" and "blood" were interpreted literally by outsiders. To counter these accusations, Christian apologists, such as Justin Martyr and Tertullian, attempted to provide a theological explanation for the symbolism, emphasizing that the Eucharist was a spiritual and not a physical act. Thus, both Easter and the Eucharist reflect the profound themes of liberation and hope, as well as the importance of a correct understanding of the symbolism of Christian teaching to avoid harmful misunderstandings. This shows that a proper understanding of religious traditions can strengthen faith and strengthen relationships among believers.

Abstract

Moyo Dance or also known as Eagle Dance is a form of traditional art originating from Nias Island in North Sumatra. Historically, this performance was performed at royal events to entertain kings and queens and welcome guests in an honorable manner. The people of Nias live in a cultural environment that is deeply rooted in customs and traditions, although most of this traditional culture is still little known, even among the people themselves. This dance has significant historical and cultural value, reflecting the identity and heritage of the Nias people. With the arrival of Christianity in the 19th century, there was an interesting interaction between local culture and Christian teachings. This article aims to explore how the Moyo Dance is a form of cultural expression that also embodies Christian spirituality, and how these two aspects can complement each other in the lives of the Nias people.
