Abstract

This paper looks at parenting and the educational performance of secondary schools’ students’ in Rivers State, Nigeria. Survey methodology were employed to collect data from the population of all registered secondary school in Rivers State which was estimated as 3,467 as at 2023. Taro Yamane formula were used to arrive at a sample size of 400 and questionnaire was distributed of which 387 returned. With a mean criterion of 3.0, SPSS and Crombach Alpha coefficient of 0.05 were used to analyse the study's research topics. Reviewing the effect of parenting on the educational performance of secondary schools’ students’ in Nigeria we found out that absent of either father/mother from home, keeping children/wards in the hands of house help/care giver to take care of, family responsibility /obligation which made parents to show less concern in children/wards academic, devotion to work, lack of time, love, care, concern etc. are the effect of poor parenting that lead to poor academic performance of secondary school students River State, Nigeria. The study concluded that parent should try to involve themselves in their children/wards academics than just paying their fees, giving them good meals/snacks to school, buy whatever the children/ward’s needs, enrol them in expensive school then leave them in the hands of the teachers’ as academic involvement and child training is far beyond this knowing that they are their child/ward first teacher in life and also no one can train their child/ward better than they do knowing the fact that “charity begins at home”.

Abstract

This research focuses on the application of Field Market type cooperative learning method to improve the activeness and cognitive learning outcomes of students in Class XI Social Studies in the subject of Workshop and Entrepreneurship. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Field Market type cooperative learning method in improving students' learning outcomes, as well as to observe the changes that occur in the level of student activeness after the application of the method. This research is a type of classroom action research, involving students of Class XI Social Studies as the research subjects. Data on student activeness was collected through observation during the learning process, while data on student learning outcomes was obtained through tests conducted before and after the application of this method. The results showed a significant increase in student activeness during the learning process after the application of the Field Market method. In addition, students' cognitive learning outcomes also showed improvement after this method was applied. The results of independent sample T-test showed that there was a significant difference in students' learning outcomes before and after the application of Field Market cooperative learning method. This finding indicates that Field Market cooperative learning method is effective in increasing students' active participation and supporting the achievement of better learning outcomes. Thus, this method can be relied upon as an effective and relevant approach to be applied in the learning of Workshop and Entrepreneurship.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the implementation of the DAPODIK program at Muhammadiyah 9 Elementary School in Palembang, including its supporting and inhibiting factors. It utilizes a qualitative descriptive approach with informants comprising the School Principal, Administrative Staff, and Operators. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was ensured through technique and source triangulation. Findings indicate that the implementation of the DAPODIK program at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Palembang is fairly effective, focusing on directives, coordination, communication, and motivation. Factors supporting this include adequate facilities, competent human resources, and reliable internet connectivity. Conversely, challenges include data synchronization limitations and server downtime during DAPODIK updates. In conclusion, the DAPODIK program at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Palembang is generally effective, facilitated by effective guidance, motivation, and efficient coordination and communication.

Abstract

This paper examined the important roles technology can play in addressing the corruption programme facing the Nigerian educational sector. The paper is a position that depends on secondary data. The secondary data were collected from print and online publications. The paper concluded that technology can be used to combat corruption in the educational administration and management in Nigeria. The paper noted that technology, if applied effectively, can reduce corruption in personnel management, facility development, and procurement. The paper recommends that the government should adopt technology to fight corruption in all the ministries and agencies of governments. The government should provide and direct the use of technological facilities. The government should train staff on the use of modern technological facilities. Stakeholders in education should be encouraged to use technological facilities to report and expose corruption practices in the educational sector.

Abstract

This study analyzes the factors that influence the academic success of students in the course of Social Personality Development in the Social Science Education Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tanjungpura University. A quantitative descriptive method was used with a sample of 33 students. The data includes class activity grades, assignments, Midterm Exams (UTS), Final Exams (UAS), and final grades. The results show that class activity has the strongest correlation with the final grade (r = 0.72), followed by assignments (r = 0.68), UTS (r = 0.64), and UAS (r = 0.62). The majority of students (91.18%) obtained an A grade. In conclusion, class activity and assignments play a significant role in students' academic success.Academic Achievement
