Abstract

The study examined the quandaries of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA) of the University for Development Studies. The study adopted a mixed research approach using purposive sampling to select two staff members from the Directorate and fourteen DAPQA representatives from all the various schools and faculties in the university. The researchers personally administered the questionnaires and conducted the interviews. Descriptive statistics and frequencies were employed to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were transcribed and coded for easy identification. The study revealed that the directorate is faced with poor cooperation from the university's academic and non-academic staff. It also came to light that there were inadequate personnel and limited office space and funds to carry out their activities. The study, therefore, recommends recruiting qualified staff and continuing workshops for existing staff of the university to appreciate the role of DAPQA and the need to avail themselves whenever needed. Again, university management should organize in-service training for the staff of DAPQA and provide enough office space and funds to carry out its activities.

Abstract

Contemporary high school education presents various learning modalities, encompassing traditional in-class learning, distance learning incorporating online platforms, and e-learning. Amid the prevalent challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hybrid Competency-Based Learning (HCBL) has emerged as a popular and effective educational approach. HCBL involves a combination of online e-learning (Ananga & Biney, 2017) and in-class instruction, augmented by hands-on activities in the medical field. This research aims to demonstrate the efficacy of HCBL in fostering successful learning outcomes and mitigating stress levels among students pursuing higher education in the medical domain. The findings reveal that HCBL not only enhances learning efficiency but also contributes significantly to stress reduction, particularly in the transition to university-level studies.

Abstract

This study explores the pervasive impact of social media on the academic pursuits of college students. Employing a descriptive survey approach, the research investigates various aspects of social media usage among students, encompassing communication and educational activities. Through the analysis of survey responses, the study examines how students allocate their time on social media platforms and its potential effects on their academic performance. The results reveal a nuanced relationship between social media engagement and academic outcomes, uncovering both positive and negative impacts. While social media offers convenience and connectivity, concerns arise regarding its addictive nature and potential distractions from academic endeavors. The paper concludes with a comprehensive set of recommendations for both institutions and students to manage the complex interplay between social media and academic success. These recommendations include implementing structured time management techniques, nurturing digital literacy skills, providing support for balancing online and offline activities, advocating for educational content utilization on social media platforms, and promoting responsible online conduct. Furthermore, the paper calls for collaboration among educational institutions, policymakers, and technology firms to formulate guidelines and policies that encourage healthy social media use while prioritizing academic goals

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of physical education on the social-emotional development of children at SD Inpres Pa'Baeng-Baeng, Makassar City. Using a quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental approach, as many as 60 students in grades IV and V were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group that participated in a structured physical education program and a control group that participated in a standard physical education program. Data were collected through social-emotional development questionnaires, observations, and interviews before and after the implementation of the program. The results of the analysis showed that the experimental group experienced a significant improvement in social-emotional development compared to the control group (t = 3.45, p < 0.05). Observations and interviews supported these findings by showing improved positive social interaction, cooperative skills, and emotional management in the experimental group. These findings confirm that structured physical education can effectively improve children's social-emotional development and, therefore, should be integrated into the primary school curriculum. This study provides the basis for further research on the impact of physical education on other aspects of child development.

Abstract

Japan came to Indonesia and ruled for about three years. Although the period of occupation was relatively short compared to the Netherlands which ruled for hundreds of years, Japan succeeded in issuing and implementing its political policies. One of the most important of these policies was nipponization. Using historical methods, this paper traces the influence of the nipponization policy on the existence of Islamic education. It was found that during the Japanese occupation, Islamic education became increasingly vibrant in various regions. Religious education was also included in the curriculum of government schools from elementary to tertiary levels. This was due to Japan's friendlier attitude towards Muslims. However, this policy was not accompanied by the availability of teachers, so religious subjects did not work properly

Abstract

This research paper critically examines the portrayal of colonial confrontation in Chinua Achebe’s "Things Fall Apart," highlighting the themes of suppression and oppression. It argues that Achebe adeptly reconstructs the historical and political context of the Igbo people's recent past, illustrating their suppression and oppression by European colonizers. Furthermore, the paper explores how Achebe portrays Igbo community life and demonstrates how the arrival of white missionaries and colonial administrators gradually undermined traditional Igbo values. This erosion occurred initially through religious conversions and later through the imposition of colonial political structures, ultimately leading to the dismantling of traditional Igbo society. Thus, the novel addresses various forms of suppression—social, political, religious, cultural, economic, and educational—imposed on the Igbo tribe by the British colonial administration.
