Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palembang using a qualitative descriptive approach. This research involves subject teachers, madrasah heads, curriculum waka, and students as key and supporting informants. Data collection was carried out using semi-structured interview techniques, non-participatory observation, and documentation. The data obtained was analyzed through four stages: data reduction, data display, data verification, and drawing conclusions to describe the implementation of the curriculum in depth. The results of research related to the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palembang show a significant impact on students' academic and social performance. Academically, curriculum flexibility allows students to choose topics and learning methods according to their interests, leading to improved academic understanding and skills. Project-based and research-based learning methods develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as evidenced by better academic outcomes and increased achievement. On the social side, the curriculum strengthens collaboration and communication skills between students through group projects and community activities. This increases students' sense of community and confidence, as well as their participation in extracurricular activities. However, challenges such as unequal access to resources and limited teacher training need to be addressed. With adequate support and periodic evaluation, the positive impact of the Independent Curriculum is expected to be maximized, encouraging the holistic development of students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palembang.

Abstract

This paper looks at parenting and the educational performance of secondary schools’ students’ in Rivers State, Nigeria. Survey methodology were employed to collect data from the population of all registered secondary school in Rivers State which was estimated as 3,467 as at 2023. Taro Yamane formula were used to arrive at a sample size of 400 and questionnaire was distributed of which 387 returned. With a mean criterion of 3.0, SPSS and Crombach Alpha coefficient of 0.05 were used to analyse the study's research topics. Reviewing the effect of parenting on the educational performance of secondary schools’ students’ in Nigeria we found out that absent of either father/mother from home, keeping children/wards in the hands of house help/care giver to take care of, family responsibility/obligation which made parents to show less concern in children/wards academic, devotion to work, lack of time, love, care, concern etc. are the effect of poor parenting that lead to poor academic performance of secondary school students River State, Nigeria. The study concluded that parent should try to involve themselves in their children/wards academics than just paying their fees, giving them good meals/snacks to school, buy whatever the children/ward’s needs, enrol them in expensive school then leave them in the hands of the teachers’ as academic involvement and child training is far beyond this knowing that they are their child/ward first teacher in life and also no one can train their child/ward better than they do knowing the fact that “charity begins at home”.

Inferential and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data for the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the hypotheses were tested using simple regression analysis for the main hypothesis and Pearson product moment correlation statistics (PPMC) for the operational hypotheses. The hypotheses were confirmed at 05 levels of significance. The paper revealed that international organizations in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja have contributed to the development of education (basic education) in FCT and it was also found that there is a significant relationship between international organizations and the development of education (basic education) in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria. Abstract

The study examined how capacity building affected the work performance of PBECD (Post-Basic Education and Career Development) principals and teachers in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, Nigeria. For this investigation, a descriptive survey research design was utilized. Principals and teachers at public Post-Basic Education and Career Development (PBECD) schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja, Nigeria, made up the study's population. 120 teachers and 36 principals make up the study's sample size. Purposive and random sampling strategies were employed in the research. For this study, a structured questionnaire was the tool used to collect data. At the University of Abuja, specialists from the Department of Educational Management verified the instruments. To ascertain the reliability coefficient, the test-retest approach was employed. In FCT, the study found a positive correlation between capacity building, the work performance of principals, and the work performance of teachers in PBECD. Building capacity supports PBECD teachers' job performance and facilitates efficient school administration. The study suggests that in order to support an efficient capacity building program for school principals and teachers in the PBECD program, the government should enhance funding for PBECD in the Federal Capital Territory.

Abstract

This study explored the impact of online gaming addiction on adolescents' mental health in the Kathmandu Valley. With the advent of accessible gaming platforms, there was increasing concern about their potential negative effects. Using a cross-sectional, descriptive, and causal-comparative research design, data were collected from 207 students across four colleges through structured questionnaires. The study aimed to assess adolescents' perceptions of online gaming, investigate the relationship between gaming addiction and mental health, and examine its impacts on depression, anxiety, and loneliness. The findings revealed a significant correlation between online gaming addiction and adverse mental health outcomes among adolescents. Increased gaming addiction was associated with higher levels of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. The study highlighted the detrimental effects of excessive gaming on social relationships, academic performance, and overall well-being. This research addressed a critical gap by focusing on the Kathmandu Valley, providing new insights into the localized effects of gaming addiction and underscoring the need for targeted interventions and preventive measures to support adolescent mental health.

Abstract

The development of a Student Worksheet (LKPD) assisted by PhET Simulation was motivated by the lack of practical equipment in school laboratories. This research aims to develop a Student Worksheet (LKPD) assisted by PhET Simulation on the subject of Sound Waves for Grade XI of Senior High School/Madrasah Aliyah (SMA/MA). The type of research used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). During the development stage, the draft LKPD was described in terms of its feasibility and practicality. The feasibility data of the developed LKPD was obtained from the validation results by four experts consisting of two subject matter experts and two media experts using a questionnaire instrument. The practicality data of the LKPD was obtained from the responses of students and teachers to the use of the LKPD using a questionnaire instrument. The research involved 15 students in a limited trial. The results of this study indicate that the average score for the material aspect was categorized as "Very Feasible," and the media aspect was categorized as "Feasible." The data on students' responses to the LKPD was categorized as "Very Practical." The teachers' responses to the LKPD were categorized as "Very Practical." The conclusion of this study is that the LKPD assisted by PhET Simulation is Feasible and Very Practical for learning.
