Abstract

Urolithiasis is a common medical condition characterized by the formation of stones in the urinary tract, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. This disease can be caused by intrinsic factors such as age and genetics, as well as extrinsic factors including diet, dehydration, and environmental conditions. In Indonesia, urolithiasis cases are frequently encountered; however, comprehensive prevalence data remain limited, particularly at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus, Palangka Raya. This study aimed to identify the characteristics of patients with urolithiasis at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus during the 2022–2023 period, including age, gender, signs and symptoms, chief complaints, stone location, and applied management strategies. This was a retrospective descriptive study analyzing medical records of urolithiasis patients treated at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus from January 2022 to December 2023. The findings indicated that urolithiasis most commonly occurred in men aged 46–64 years. Prominent risk factors included gender and age. Most patients presented with flank pain as the main complaint, while the majority showed urinary retention as a clinical sign. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) was the most frequently applied treatment. Urolithiasis at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus predominantly affected elderly and middle-aged men, with flank pain as the chief complaint. This study provided essential insights for developing more effective treatment strategies for this condition

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) often causes bleeding, increasing disease severity and mortality risk due to inadequate oxygen supply influenced by thrombocytopenia, elevated hematocrit, and hemoglobin levels. DHF severity is classified into four stages: fever and plasma leakage (stage 1), spontaneous bleeding (stage 2), circulatory failure (stage 3), and severe shock (stage 4). This study examines the relationship between hemoglobin levels, hematocrit values, and platelet counts with DHF severity in 51 pediatric inpatients at dr. Doris Sylvanus General Hospital, Palangka Raya, from January to December 2023. Using a cross-sectional design and simple random sampling, data from medical records were analyzed. Normality tests revealed significant correlations between hematocrit values and platelet counts with DHF severity, while hemoglobin levels showed no significant correlation. These findings highlight the importance of hematocrit and platelet monitoring in DHF management

Abstract

An interrupted ectopic pregnancy is an ectopic pregnancy that has an abortus rupture of the tubal wall. There are several risk factors for KET, namely age, education, occupation, gestational age, and parity. This study aims to determine the relationship between risk factors for the incidence of interrupted ectopic pregnancy at Dr. Doris Sylvanus Hospital in 2019-2021 in terms of maternal age, education, gestational age and parity. The type of research used was analytical observational, with a case control research approach. The sampling technique for the case group used the simple random sampling method, obtained a sample size of 45 respondents.  As for the control group, it was carried out by systematic random sampling with a control number of 45 respondents. Statistical tests used, namely descriptive tests and Chi-Squere tests. The results of this study showed a significant relationship between maternal age and the incidence of KET, there was a significant relationship between maternal education and the incidence of KET, there was no significant relationship between gestational age and the incidence of KET, there was a significant relationship between parity and the incidence of KET. Maternal age, maternal education, and parity are risk factors that have a significant relationship, while gestational age does not have a significant relationship with the incidence of interrupted ectopic pregnancy at Dr. Doris Sylvanus Hospital in 2019-2021

Abstract

Dental caries is caused by Streptococcus mutans, with resistance to fluoride becoming a significant challenge, thus requiring new antibacterial alternatives. The purpose of this literature review is to examine the potential of metabolite compounds from the Rutaceae plant family against S. mutans through a systematic review. The method used includes a literature review from databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Research Gate (2014–2024) following the PRISMA protocol. The analysis covers plants from the Rutaceae family, bacterial inhibition zone tests, and secondary metabolite content. A total of 15 journals (6 national, 9 international) demonstrated that the Rutaceae family plants possess strong antibacterial activity. Active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids were found in the bark, leaves, and fruits of the plants. Extracts from the bark of Citrus aurantifolia showed the largest inhibition zone against S. mutans (28.7 mm). Flavonoids and tannins played a significant role in antibacterial activity. The conclusion derived is that the Rutaceae family has great potential as a natural antibacterial agent for the prevention of dental caries. These findings provide a foundation for developing safe and effective oral care products based on natural ingredients. Further research, particularly in the formulation of safe and effective natural-based oral care products

Abstract

Pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium show increasing level of resistance to various antibiotics, thus encouraging efforts to find new antibacterial agents from natural sources, including peat soil fungi. This study aims to examine the characteristics and potential antibacterial activity of fungal isolates from peat soil in three different locations in Palangka Raya City, namely Kereng Bengkirai, Yos Sudarso Street, and the and the environmental area of Palangka Raya, University, against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium bacteria. The research design used was a true experimental with a post-test only control group design model. Fungal isolates were obtained through inoculation and isolation from peat soil samples, then cultivated, extracted, and tested for antibacterial activity using the disk diffusion method. against two test bacteria. The results showed that fungal isolates from the third locations did not show growth inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus or Salmonella typhimurium at the concentrations and testing method used. Fungal isolates from peat soil in Kereng Bengkirai Yos Sudarso street, and the Palangka Raya University area do not have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium under the conditions and test methods applied Keywords: peat soil fungi, antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, antibiotic resistance.
