Dawatuna: Journal of Communication and Islamic Broadcasting  is a peer-reviewed national journal on communication, dakwah, broadcasting, education and Islamic studies managed by Institut Agama Islam Nasional (IAI-N) Laa Roiba Bogor in cooperation with Masyarakat Ekonomi Syariah (MES) and Intelectual Association for Islamic Studies (IAFORIS) .  This journal focused on communication, dakwah, broadcasting, education, and Islamic studies  through the publication of articles, research reports, and book reviews. The Journal is published The Journal is published four time a year on January, April, July,  and October. The aim of the journal is to disseminate the communication, dakwah, broadcasting, and Islamic studies researches done by researchers. Specifically, the journal will deal with topics, including but not limited to: Broadcasting, Communication, Dakwah & Islamic propagation, Islamic education,  Islamic studies, Islamic education, and other related issues. Abstract

The advancement of communication technology has created new challenges for traditional media, including radio. This study aims to analyze the implementation of media convergence by Gema Wana Prima (GWP) 98.6 FM, a local radio station in Sangatta, East Kalimantan, in adapting to the digital era. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The results show that GWP has adopted several elements of Rich Gordon’s media convergence theory, particularly Tactical Convergence, structural Convergence, and storytelling convergence. The station actively utilizes social media and digital platforms, although ownership and Information gathering convergence have not been fully implemented due to limited resources. This study concludes that local media can independently adopt selective convergence strategies to maintain relevance amid media landscape changes.

Abstract

  The research and development (R&D) conducted aims to determine: 1) The results of the development of E-Handouts based on Nearpod material for Table Set Up. 2) The feasibility of E-Handouts based on Nearpod material for Table Set Up. 3) Student responses to teaching and learning activities using E-Handouts based on Nearpod material for Table Set Up. This research uses the ADDIE development model up to the fourth stage (Implementation) only or up to a limited trial. The feasibility of the E-Handout based on Nearpod material for Table Set Up is assessed through validation by subject matter experts using a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 4, validation by design experts using a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5, and the collection of student response questionnaires using a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. The research subjects were 55 students from class XI at SMKN 2 Jombang. The results of this study indicate that: 1) The E-Handout based on Nearpod for the Table Set Up material can be accessed online. The results of the interactive e-handout are as follows: https://app.nearpod.com/?pin=A9RE3  .  2) The results of material and design feasibility showed an average material feasibility of 0.944 and an average media feasibility percentage of 0.950, indicating that they are highly feasible. 3) Student response results indicate very good criteria with an average of 85.04%. Thus, the Nearpod-based e-handout for table setup material developed in this study can be implemented in learning activities.

Abstract

This study examines the rebranding strategy implemented by Star Department Store as a step to save the business amidst the increasingly tight competition in the retail industry. The traditional shopping center industry faces major challenges due to changes in consumer behavior, advances in digital technology, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which has changed people's shopping patterns. Star Department Store, as one of the old players in the Indonesian retail industry, implemented a comprehensive rebranding strategy to maintain its existence and regain consumer trust. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to analyze the rebranding process carried out by Star Department Store. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with company management, field observations, and analysis of company documents. Theories of marketing communication, brand identity, and crisis management are used as theoretical bases to analyze the effectiveness of the rebranding strategy implemented. The results of the study indicate that the rebranding of Star Department Store to Rambla Department Store includes changes in visual identity, physical store renovation, product diversification, and digital transformation through an e-commerce platform. An integrated marketing communication strategy was implemented to introduce the new brand image to a wider target market, including millennials and Gen Z. The rebranding implementation also involved improving customer experience through digital technology and more responsive customer service. This study shows that the rebranding strategy is effective in increasing brand awareness and getting a positive response from consumers. However, challenges still exist related to consistency in implementing the new brand identity and adapting to changing technological developments. The recommendations produced include the importance of long-term commitment in implementing the rebranding, ongoing investment in digital technology, and systematic evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the rebranding strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of consumer engagement mediation on the causal relationship of informative value on consumer buying interest moderated by product type (search product vs experience product) on the TikTok platform. This research is a type of quantitative research using a survey method conducted by distributing questionnaires to TikTok users throughout Indonesia. The sample determination was carried out using the purposive sampling method, with 212 TikTok users divided into 104 sample search products or 108 sample experience products. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and using the SmartPLS Structural Equation Model. The results of the research show that: (1) the informative value has a significant effect on consumer engagement, (2) the influence of informative value is higher on search products compared to experience products. In order to increase consumer engagement, sellers on TikTok can increase content that is of value to consumers as an effort to increase consumer engagement with digital content marketing, especially emphasizing the informative value of search products

Abstract

The rapid growth of the skincare industry in Indonesia presents a paradox: increasing environmental pollution caused by the use of single-use packaging. This study examines how Avoskin utilizes hyperpersonal communication through its Instagram account, @avoskinbeauty, to mitigate environmental issues. The aim of this research is to explore the application of hyperpersonal communication elements—selective self-presentation, idealized receiver perception, channel management, and feedback loop—in Avoskin’s sustainability messaging. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method and Systematic Documentary Review (SDR). The content analyzed was published between January 1 and April 30, 2025. Findings indicate that Avoskin consistently promotes sustainability values through educational digital content. These efforts not only inform the audience but also foster emotional resonance and active participation through likes, comments, and direct involvement in recycling programs. The study concludes that hyperpersonal communication via social media serves as an effective platform to strengthen a company’s green identity and raise public ecological awareness. Avoskin exemplifies how digital communication can strategically integrate commercial interests with environmental responsibility.

Abstract

This research analysis the content of the messages found in the feed (photos, videos, and reels) uploaded on the Instagram account @polsek_tanjung_priok in communicating public information, including the types of activities displayed on that account. Social media is utilized by various government agencies, including the National Police, with the aim of disseminating information and enhancing reputation, as well as serving as a means of online documentation. One of the popular social media platforms is Instagram; Instagram is not only a platform for sharing photos and videos but also a means to access news, information, and educational content. This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the content of the messages found in the posts uploaded on the Instagram account @polsek_tanjung_priok in conveying public information, including the types of activities displayed. This research uses qualitative research methodology with content analysis research method. The results show that the content of messages found in the feed (photos, videos, and Reels) uploaded on the Instagram account @polsek_tanjung_priok in conveying public information contains various messages in the form of information aimed at the community, especially in the Tanjung Priok District of North Jakarta, utilizing social media Instagram for various purposes and delivered through various means, including appeals that are persuasive or warnings, news that conveys current events, and Instagram hashtags intended to categorize content on social media.

Abstract

This research analyzes the role and communication styles of middle managers at The Highland Park Resort & Hotel Bogor in managing organizational communication and employee development. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies, it was found that managers effectively fulfill roles as a mentors, information controllers, external input seekers, and inter-departmental liaisons, while actively avoiding isolation. Regarding communication styles, they combine a responsive and equal approaches, structured communication, dynamic target achievement, and open to team ideas, and rarely use a controlling or avoiding styles. This dynamic and integrated combination of roles and styles enables managers to build strong relationships, manage team dynamics, and create a productive work environment. These findings affirm the importance of adaptive leadership communication for operational efficiency at The Highland Park Resort & Hotel Bogor.

Abstract

This study discusses a content analysis of netizen comments on the TikTok account @hiracloud in response to content related to motivation for writing a thesis. The research focuses on the reactions of netizens when viewing TikTok content by @hiracloud documenting the thesis-writing process. This study employs a content analysis method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results show that netizen responses vary widely. Some comments offer emotional support, others share personal experiences, and some express that the content serves as an external source of motivation for writing their thesis. This phenomenon is particularly interesting because the content was not initially intended to motivate students; it was simply a personal documentation of the thesis-writing journey. Nevertheless, it unexpectedly triggered motivational responses from viewers. These findings demonstrate that netizens are indeed inspired to write their own theses after engaging with the content. Therefore, this study is considered significant because it shows how content originally created for personal purposes can evolve into a motivational force for others. It is hoped that similar content will continue to emerge, fostering responses that can further encourage students in their academic writing journey. Additionally, this research is expected to serve as a valuable reference for future studies in related fields.

Abstract

Juvenile delinquency remains a growing social challenge in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas such as West Java. As a response, Dedi Mulyadi initiated a military-style boot camp program targeting troubled students, introducing a disciplinary and character-building approach through physical and mental training. This study aims to analyze how the local media, especially Tribun Jabar, frames Dedi Mulyadi’s communication strategy in addressing juvenile delinquency by applying Robert Entman’s framing theory. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on ten online news articles published in May 2025. The findings show that 80% of the news coverage positively frames the military boot camp program, emphasizing narratives of effectiveness, emotional resonance, and responsiveness attributed to Dedi Mulyadi’s leadership. Critical perspectives, such as those from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) and public intellectuals like Rocky Gerung, are included but are not given equal narrative weight. Entman’s four framing elements problem definition, causal diagnosis, moral judgment, and treatment recommendation are clearly manifested in the coverage, reinforcing a discourse that legitimizes the military-style solution as both necessary and moral. These media narratives significantly influence public perception and political imagery, reflecting a dominant framing that marginalizes alternative views on children's rights and the long-term efficacy of militaristic approaches.

Abstract

Overthinking among Generation Z adolescents has emerged as a critical psychological issue, driven by digital exposure, academic pressure, and social demands, ultimately impacting mental health. The lack of interventions integrating Islamic spiritual values has worsened this condition. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Islamic mindfulness—combining modern awareness techniques with dzikir, tafakkur, and muhasabah practices—in reducing overthinking and improving emotional regulation. A participatory community-based approach was applied to 25 Muslim Gen Z students (aged 18–24) in Metro City, active in religious forums and showing symptoms of overthinking. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, training observations, and participant reflections, then analyzed thematically. Anticipated results include the development of an evidence-based Islamic mindfulness module, a decrease in overthinking symptoms, and improved spiritual-emotional resilience. Outputs cover scientific publications, digital educational content, and the establishment of a mentally and spiritually aware youth community.
