Abstract

Adolescent mental health problems have become an increasingly significant public health concern. The 2018 National Basic Health Survey (Riskesdas) reported a 6% prevalence of emotional mental disorders among individuals aged ?15 years. Prior research conducted in the Belimbing Primary Health Care area found that 43.9% of adolescents experienced poor mental health, with a history of bullying identified as the dominant contributing factor (PR = 2.84). This activity aimed to enhance adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding self-care as a preventive strategy against mental health problems. The educational intervention was delivered through video presentations and interactive discussions covering mental health concepts, early signs of stress and mental health disorders, and practical skills for implementing self-care in daily life. Evaluation of the program was conducted using a pre–post test questionnaire. The results indicated an increase in good knowledge from 45% to 85% and an improvement in positive attitudes from 50% to 90%. These findings demonstrate that the intervention was effective in improving adolescents’ understanding of the importance of self-care.

Abstract

Threaten the health of residents, especially children, the elderly, and women. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of harmful substances, including carcinogens, which can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and increase the risk of cancer. Exposure to cigarette smoke in enclosed spaces, including thirdhand smoke that sticks to furniture and clothing, can have long-term health impacts. Therefore, educational efforts are needed to raise public awareness about the importance of smoke-free homes. This community service activity was carried out in July 2025 in Jorong Aro, involving 20 community members. The methods used included door-to-door outreach and leaflet distribution. The activity stages included preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge in the good category from 65.0% before the outreach to 93.5% after the outreach. In addition, the community's positive attitude towards efforts to not smoke indoors increased from 55% to 65%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the outreach activity was effective in increasing public knowledge and awareness about the dangers of smoking indoors. This activity is expected to encourage the implementation of clean and healthy living behavior by creating a sustainable smoke-free home environment.

Abstract

The problem of household organic waste remains an environmental challenge that requires sustainable solutions. One management innovation is the use of eco-enzymes, a liquid produced by fermenting organic waste that can be used as a fertilizer, cleaner, and disinfectant. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and attitudes regarding the use of eco-enzymes as a household waste management effort. The methods used included interactive outreach, eco-enzyme production demonstrations, and the distribution of educational leaflets. The activity was carried out in July 2024 in Jorong Aro Sawah Ujung, Nagari Talang, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency, with 22 participants. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results of the activity showed an increase in community knowledge from 76.7% before the intervention to 95.8% after the intervention, as well as an increase in positive attitudes from 65% to 75%. This activity successfully equipped the community with basic skills in processing organic waste into useful products while raising awareness of the implementation of the zero-waste concept. Thus, this program has the potential to be replicated as a model for community-based organic waste management.

Abstract

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a global health problem that requires serious attention. It is known as the silent killer because it often presents no symptoms, causing many individuals to remain unaware of their condition until complications occur. If left uncontrolled, hypertension can lead to severe complications such as stroke, heart attack, pulmonary edema, hearing impairment, and even death. This community service program aimed to improve the ability of individuals with hypertension to control their blood pressure independently through the implementation of the guided imagery technique as a non-pharmacological intervention. The program was conducted on January 9 and 13, 2026, in the Kuranji Community Health Center (Puskesmas Kuranji) Working Area, involving 30 participants. The activities included health education on hypertension, followed by demonstration, mentoring, and hands-on practice of the guided imagery technique. Educational sessions were delivered using leaflets, a laptop, and a projector through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The program was implemented successfully and proceeded smoothly. The evaluation results showed that participant engagement reached 85%, understanding of the educational material was 80%, and participants' skills in performing the guided imagery technique reached 80%. These findings indicate that the implementation of the guided imagery technique can serve as an effective non-pharmacological approach to enhance the ability of individuals with hypertension to manage their blood pressure independently.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. The WHO reports that approximately 74% of global deaths are caused by NCDs, and in Indonesia, the figure reaches 76%. The increasing prevalence of NCDs, such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus, is also influenced by low health literacy and the public's ability to utilize digital information. This community service activity aims to optimize the knowledge level of NCD sufferers through a digital literacy approach in Korong Gadang Village, within the Kuranji Community Health Center (Puskesmas) working area. The implementation method includes education, demonstrations, and evaluation with post-implementation measurements based on digital media (PowerPoint and educational videos). The activity was conducted on December 23, 2025, involving 50 NCD sufferers. Results showed that the majority of respondents had a good level of knowledge after the intervention (68%), while 26% were in the adequate category and 6% were in the poor category. This community service activity demonstrates that digital literacy-based education is effective in increasing public understanding of NCD management. Thus, digital literacy can be a sustainable promotive and preventive strategy to support NCD control and improve the community's quality of life.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly influenced how preschool children learn, play, and interact socially. While digital technology offers educational benefits and supports cognitive development, excessive and unsupervised use may negatively affect children's mental health, including emotional regulation difficulties, reduced social interaction, sleep disturbances, and behavioral problems. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of parents and teachers regarding healthy digital technology use to support preschool children's mental health. The activity was conducted in December 2025 at PAUD Tapian Bunda and involved 30 participants consisting of parents and teachers. The intervention included health education sessions, interactive discussions, demonstrations of age-appropriate digital technology use, and participant evaluations. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of screen-time limitations, parental supervision, age-appropriate content selection, and the importance of balancing digital activities with direct play and social interaction. Healthy digital technology education proved to be an effective promotive strategy for improving family digital literacy and preventing mental health problems among preschool children. Similar programs should be continuously implemented through collaboration among families, schools, and healthcare professionals.

Abstract

The Referral Program (PRB) is a service within the National Health Insurance system that allows patients with chronic diseases to receive follow-up care at primary healthcare facilities after being hospitalized. Data on JKN patient visits in 2023 shows that Air Tawar Community Health Center had the lowest number of visits in Padang City, with 13,571 visits. However, many patients still do not understand the benefits, mechanisms, and procedures for implementing PRB, resulting in suboptimal utilization. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase knowledge and foster positive attitudes among elderly patients regarding the benefits, mechanisms, and procedures of the Referral Program (PRB). The method used was health education for 50 elderly patients visiting Air Tawar Community Health Center in Padang City. The community service implementation method involved providing education through leaflets about the benefits of the referral program for patients with non-communicable diseases. Evaluation was conducted using questionnaires before and after the activity to measure changes in participants' knowledge and attitudes. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding and attitudes towards PRB. The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased to 76%, while the proportion with a positive attitude toward PRB implementation increased to 84% after participating in the outreach program. This activity demonstrates that outreach through education and two-way communication can increase knowledge and shape positive attitudes toward the Referral Program among elderly patients. It is hoped that similar educational activities can be conducted continuously to support the optimization of PRB implementation and improve the quality of care for patients with chronic diseases.
