Abstract

The transformation of Taman Satwa Taru Jurug into Solo Safari is part of the revitalization of tourism destinations in Surakarta City, accompanied by the implementation of a communication strategy through a brand launch event. The success of a brand launch is determined not only by a change in identity but also by the organization's ability to communicate the brand's values, image, and strengths to the public. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy implemented during the Solo Safari brand launch and evaluate it using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) approach. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and literature review. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, while data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation. The analysis of the communication strategy is based on Harold D. Lasswell’s communication model, focusing on five key elements: Who (the message sender), Says What (the message content), In Which Channel (the medium used), To Whom (the target audience), and With What Effect (the resulting impact). This model is used to analyze communication effectiveness by examining the relationships among the communicator, message, media, audience, and communication effects (Lasswell, 1948). Furthermore, the brand launch message is analyzed using the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) model developed by Kotler & Keller (2016). The results indicate that Solo Safari’s communication strategy was executed in an integrated manner across eight key marketing communication channels: advertising, sales promotion, events and experiences, public relations and publicity, online and social media marketing, mobile marketing, direct and database marketing, and personal selling. Based on the SWOT analysis, the primary strengths lie in government support, collaboration with Taman Safari Indonesia, and the utilization of integrated marketing communication. Key challenges include the public's persistent association with the old name, "Taman Jurug," and increasing competition among tourism destinations. This study recommends optimizing digital communication, strengthening brand identity, and developing strategic collaborations to enhance the effectiveness of communication strategies and reinforce Solo Safari's position as a premier tourist destination in Surakarta.

Abstract

Contemporary product design emphasizes not only aesthetics and functionality but also the use of eco-friendly materials and production processes. One surface decoration technique worth developing is gradient Screen Printing, which creates gradual color blends and imparts a distinct visual character to products. This study explores literature regarding eco-friendly gradient Screen Printing techniques to support product design. A literature review methodology was employed, utilizing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. Searches were conducted across databases such as SpringerLink, Emerald Insight, Cambridge Core, and Google Scholar, using keywords related to gradient Screen Printing, Screen Printing, natural dyes, eco-friendly materials, and sustainable design. Articles were selected based on topic relevance, a publication period of 2021-2026, language (Indonesian or English), and full-text availability. The selection process yielded four articles for analysis. The review indicates that gradient Screen Printing has the potential to produce smooth, attractive color blends, while eco-friendly materials such as natural dyes, natural thickeners, and biomass can serve as alternative printing ingredients. However, print outcomes remain influenced by factors such as paste formulation, viscosity, binders, substrate type, and printing parameters. Consequently, further experimentation and evaluation are required to achieve consistent gradient results and good print durability while maintaining a focus on sustainability. Overall, integrating gradient Screen Printing techniques with eco-friendly materials holds the potential to foster product designs that combine aesthetic appeal with sustainability principles.

Abstract

Vokasi Fest 2026 is the inaugural event organized by the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Universitas Tiga Serangkai Surakarta, serving as a platform for showcasing and promoting student works from the Visual Communication Design, Textile Product Design, Information Technology, and Information Systems programs. The event is held over one week and features a series of activities, including a student work exhibition, photography workshop, doodle competition, and expert lecture. As an event intended to be held annually, Vokasi Fest requires a strong and consistent visual identity to establish recognition, build a distinctive image, and differentiate the event from other creative and educational events. This study aims to design a visual identity for Vokasi Fest 2026 that represents the values of creativity, innovation, collaboration, and vocational competence while supporting the promotional and publication needs of the event. The design process employs the Double Diamond approach, consisting of four stages: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. The resulting visual identity system includes a logo, color palette, typography, graphic elements, and their applications across various promotional and publication media. The visual identity is expected to establish consistent, recognizable, and flexible visual communication while supporting the sustainability of Vokasi Fest as an annual event of the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Universitas Tiga Serangkai Surakarta.

Abstract

The urgency of this research cannot be separated from the preservation and identity of Javanese culture which still exists today. Sadranan is a heritage practice that must be preserved to help future generations understand the identity of the Javanese community. Beyond its role in identity, Sadranan also holds the potential to boost the local economy. While many people view Sadranan merely as a recurring annual tradition leading up to Ramadan, outsiders are often unaware of the substantial economic activity—the significant cash flow—that takes place within it. Therefore, this research aims to thoroughly examine the economic functions associated with the Sadranan tradition. It also seeks to introduce this Javanese tradition—and the many values it embodies—to the general public. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Furthermore, the data will be analyzed using an interactive model comprising data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions
